Team Doney Coe

It took a long time for Doney Coe to get our clinic up and running several days a week in order to be able to accommodate more pets AND their people. It's hard to believe it's already been a year. But change happens and the current location will be redeveloped and Doney Coe will be finding a new space for their clinics. There is still a huge need for help for pets of unhoused and low income people, and for their people too. There will NOT be any interruption in services, and you'll be able to get updates on doneycoe.org as things move forward. We sill will need our volunteers, donors, and all of you who have played a huge part in getting Doney Coe and our services to where they are so far. The work continues, the mission continues, and we'll keep you posted on everything so you all can follow progress.

This episode of Team Doney Coe—Helping Pets and their People—speaks to the importance of the support received from the Washington State College of Veterinary Medicine, definitely recognized as “one of the best”, and Dean Dori Borjesson. We hear a little from president of the board of directors, Marti Casey, and then feature a conversation between radio host Paul Casey and Dean Dori from WSU. The programs at WSU have provided help for Doney Coe via internships and have also helped spread awareness for what Doney Coe has done, and is doing, in the community. Thank you to our WSU partners for impacting our work in such a positive way.

This episode of Team Doney Coe—Helping Pets and Their People—features a conversation with president of the board of directors Marti Casey discussing some of the many ways we can help keep our pets safer during the holidays. We talk about avoiding dangerous foods AND a list of some of those foods (raisins, chocolate for example), how to best keep your pets calm and out of potential danger if you have guests in your home, and a host of other helpful topics. Many troubles occur simply because people are not aware of what dangers lurk in and out of the home and what to do to avoid them. Team Doney Coe is out in the community helping pets AND their people and thanks to the many donors and volunteers the efforts and results are growing every day. In this episode we hear an introduction from the President of the Board of Directors, Marti Casey—to a remarkable woman who is now part of the Doney Coe Team—Amanda Richer. And then we have a conversation with Amanda herself. Amanda is right there in the trenches with the pets AND their people, and—she has also been there herself, down on her luck and unhoused. She is now a full fledged member of Team Doney Coe and is also on numerous panels and committees addressing homelessness, health and compassion for our fellow humans . It's wonderful to have her as part of the Doney Coe Team. When you have been there, you bring a different perspective and new ways to understand and help.

This episode features a heartfelt dialogue between Dr. Laura Kreyenhagen, DVM, and Janna O'Connor, LVT. Both are dedicated professionals who also dedicate volunteer hours to Doney Coe. They discuss from the “front lines” how things are going with the new setup (10 clinics per month instead of 2), how this is helping pets and their people at an even higher level, donations that have helped immensely, and items that are still needed. The changes over the last 2 months have resulted in many more pets, and people, being seen, and this is lifting spirits and saving lives. This episode of “Team Doney Coe—Helping Pets and their People” features Sarah Vanston, MD, site medical director for Neighborcare Health's Pike Place Market clinic and Housing and Street Outreach programs. Dr. Sarah is instrumental in helping with the “people” part of “pets and their people” as now pet parents can receive behavioral and physical health support through Team Doney Coe. So often people who are struggling will take care of their pets first, but at their own expense. This part of Team Doney Coe's program is meant to insure that people are also getting the help and support they need. In helping people be better and be well it is helping pets too. It has been wonderful to watch the growth of Doney Coe's outreach and see it continue to benefit more and more people and pets in our community. And we are glad “The Doctor is IN”.

In today's show we feature a conversation with President of the Board of Directors Marti Casey as she provides updates on how things are going at the new clinic—as well as some exciting developments. The new location is working beautifully, more animals are being helped, and yes, you read it right—we are helping pets AND their people. It's been almost a year since Team Doney Coe—Helping Pets and their People, was created and began airing on our stations. When we all started this endeavor I don't think any of us realized how much was possible and how many people would be making a positive difference resulting in much MORE care for many MORE pets, and thus their people. In this episode we talk with Marti Casey President of the Board of Directors, and Erik Krema, one of the instrumental people behind the scenes who helped get this show up and running, and we discuss some of the events that we could have never foreseen that have led to an even broader and better outreach. On this episode of Team Doney Coe—Helping Pets and their People, we hear the remarkable story of Dr. Mona, her journey as a veterinarian, and how her decision to step away from her practice and donate her equipment and supplies to Doney Coe is going to make a positive difference for thousands of pets from homeless and low income situations. Dr. Mona's decision has been the catalyst that has made it possible for the new clinic to open downtown, not once every two weeks but several days EVERY week. For over 35 years Doney Coe has served the pets of low income and unhoused members of our community. And they have done an amazing job. Over the years, and also due to the pandemic, the need has grown, and Doney Coe is stepping into new territory that will allow for many more pets to be seen each week—that includes a new, larger, and easily accessible location and more support from vets and volunteers.
