Ep. 94: Andrea Doney - The Slow Coach *Interview starts at 24:35* About The Slow Coach: "She wasn't interested in metrics like getting faster, but in celebrating time alone, time on feet, personal progress, better mental health and the life affirming process of overcoming a personal obstacle. Over time she clarified these insights into a running community and qualified as a Level 3 Performance Development Coach (Trail & Ultra) through Athletics Australia. She is a wife and mum to two (almost) grown-up boys. The Slow Coach aims to create a safe, inclusive and welcoming space for runners who might otherwise be intimidated by running programs. No matter your age, experience, fitness levels, size or aspirations we can get you from flat to finish line." In this episode we speak about: - How Andrea went from a self-proclaimed 'coach potato' to an ultra-marathon runner - The Slow Coach Philosophy and how Andrea's service differs from others - The mindset of going into a race knowing that you're going to finish at the back of the pack - Advice for those who want to start running but feel as though they are too “slow/unfit/old” - The assumption that a good athlete is automatically a good coach - The inclusivity of the running community and what we can do better to help runners of all abilities feel more welcome You can find Andrea at: @_the_slow_coach on Instagram or online at https://runwiththeslowcoach.com/ She has some great FREE resources as well as online and in-person running programs. It took a long time for Doney Coe to get our clinic up and running several days a week in order to be able to accommodate more pets AND their people. It's hard to believe it's already been a year. But change happens and the current location will be redeveloped and Doney Coe will be finding a new space for their clinics. There is still a huge need for help for pets of unhoused and low income people, and for their people too. There will NOT be any interruption in services, and you'll be able to get updates on doneycoe.org as things move forward. We sill will need our volunteers, donors, and all of you who have played a huge part in getting Doney Coe and our services to where they are so far. The work continues, the mission continues, and we'll keep you posted on everything so you all can follow progress.

In this episode of Team Doney Coe—Helping Pets and Their People, we have selected segments from interviews that took place during 2022, highlighting such things as the importance of continuity of care, that smart and sensitive care means more and better care, and that triage and emergency care and equipment are important to the ongoing quality of care—the more we serve, the more need we have for equipment and for volunteers with veterinary experience. Thanks to President of the Board of Directors Marti Casey, Dr. Laura and Janna whose work supports Doney Coe, and Dr. Cherri Trusheim whose work also supports Doney Coe. Thank you to all of our donors and volunteers who made amazing things possible in 2022. We look forward to helping more pets and their people in 2023.

The importance of pilgrimages in the history of Christianity is often overlooked. Even today, millions of Christians travel every year to visit historic sites invested with spiritual meaning and power. In this episode we talk to Skye Doney, a historian and scholar of Catholic pilgrimages in nineteenth and twentieth-century Germany. Skye's new book, The Persistence of the Sacred: German Catholic Pilgrimage, 1832–1937 (published this month by the University of Toronto Press), is a masterclass in cultural history—detailed and nuanced analyses of how people from all rungs of society experienced the sacred while on pilgrimage. We explore the pilgrimages and relics and ask how these practices relate to a broader religious context in the modern period. Skye Doney is the director of the George L. Mosse Program in History at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He earned his PhD in European History at UW-Madison. In addition to his new book, he translated, edited, and annotated Eva Noack-Mosse's Holocaust memoir, Last Days of Theresienstadt (Madison, 2018). His articles have appeared in Journal of Contemporary History, The Catholic Historical Review, and Environment, Space, Place. Heather was raised in Riverton, Ut, and is the 4th of 8 kids. She graduated from high school and married her high school sweetheart, Dan Doney, in March 2000. They have 4 pretty cool kids ages 17, 15, 13, and 11. Heather loves to entertain, make new friends, and make people laugh. She's loved to dance since she was little and has learned to enjoy working out. She decided to combine the two things, and she became a certified Zumba instructor in 2011. She taught for almost 7 years when she had to quit because she was experiencing a lot of health challenges which led her in many different directions trying to figure out what was causing her health problems. Heather was diagnosed with Lyme Disease in January 2018 and it's been quite the journey for her - but she's since made social media accounts sharing the "happy habits" she's adopted into her life over the years. Since doing some treatments to combat the Lyme, Heather is doing well. She's continued to try and stay active and recently fulfilled a dream of having a viral video of her teaching Zumba in her backyard to all of her neighbors while they socially distanced during the quarantine. It's been viewed over 30 million times, featured on Good Morning America, PBS News Hours, local news stations, and even interviewed with Instagram guru Jay Shetty, and caught the attention of celebrities like Khloe Kardashian and Demi Lovato and The Kelly Clarkson Show. It's been a fun few months as she's learned the ins and outs of having a viral video. She hopes to inspire others to not give up when challenges seem unbearable, all while laughing along the way. If you want to contact Heather you can find her on Facebook at "Happy Habits With Heather D." and on Instagram @heathers_happy_habits You can also find her viral video here.
