In this powerful and raw episode, Brad sits down with special guest Paul Casey, whose story of redemption will leave you inspired and fired up to take full ownership of your life. Paul spent 10 consecutive years in some of the toughest prisons in the California Department of Corrections. But instead of letting that time break him, Paul used it as fuel for transformation. Toward the tail end of his sentence, he got sober, dove into fitness and nutrition, and began helping others with their macros and training—all from behind bars. Upon release, Paul wasted no time jumping headfirst into the fitness industry—training clients at Orangetheory and leading group fitness classes. Today, he's the proud owner of The Better You, a thriving personal training business in the Bay Area offering private and group coaching. We talk about: What prison really taught him about discipline and character How fitness and sobriety became his anchor The mindset it takes to turn rock bottom into a launching pad His transition from incarceration to entrepreneurship Why daily habits and structure are non-negotiable in building a better life Paul's story is proof that your past does not define you—and that with purpose, discipline, and a vision, you can rewrite yours. With Edwards unavailable Craig goes alone for the very first time so apologies if it's a poor quality episode. It was an interesting week with Matthieu Pavon becoming the 1st Frenchman in 117 years to win on PGA Tour with a fantastic victory at Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines winning with a ballsy 3rd shot to the Par 5 18th to defeat Nicolai Højgaard! At Ras Al Khaimah it was a super Thorbjorn Olesen performance to win by 6 shots at -27 to Rasmus Hojgaard at Al Hamra GC. That was Olesen's 8th victory on DP World Tour & 3rd since 2022 a class player that can blow people away when the putter is firing! For me the event of the year so far was LPGA Drive On Champs in Bradenton, Florida on the LPGA Tour an event that saw the re-emergence of Nelly Korda who won for a 9th time on LPGA Tour in absolutely dramatic fashion defeating Lydia Ko in a playoff while Ko was looking for LPGA Immortality! Nelly would have a 4 shot lead going into Sunday would only be 1 ahead of Megan Khang after the front 9 then a poor drive at 14 would lead to a bogey at 14, double bogey at 15 followed directly by bogeys from all 3 of Khang, Ko and Ayaka Furue would put all 3 women joint lead at -9 before Ko thinned her 2nd shot to the Par 5 17th to 3ft for a tap in eagle while Korda would further bogey to give Lydia a 3 shot lead going into her 72nd hole. The drama doesn't end there Nelly at 17 from the back of the green would make a clutch eagle to go back to within 1 of Ko with Ko parring the 18th to finish -11 Korda would need to birdie 18 to get in a playoff which she produced a worldie shot into the 72nd to within a foot to bring it to a playoff where she would win on the 2nd Playoff hole in dramatic fashion in her hometown of Bradenton! This week we have AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am on the PGA Tour which Justin Rose won last year. This year at Pebble it is an 80 man field with no cut & a PGA Signature Event attracting the very best this week with only Pebble Beach & Spyglass Hill in play instead of the 3 course rotation of normal & the Am's are only playing Thursday & Friday leading to a good finish hopefully! It's another inaugural event on DP World Tour with Bahrain Champs taking place this week at the Colin Montgomerie designed Royal Golf Club that has hosted a few MENA Tour events from 2018-20 as well as a Champions event in the European Tour back in 2011 which was won by Paul Casey at -20. With wind forecast in Bahrain it should be a good event with hopefully the winner picked in it! Felt it was hard to go solo so appreciate it if you try to listen in! It's Victory Monday for Andy and Brendan, who begin with some enthusiastic chatter about Tyson Bagent, his father, and the Bears future. There's also some pushback on the Browns getting lucky calls and a golf comp to the debate over the Tush Push. Then they get to the golf, beginning with the LIV Finale and Bryson's DeChambeau's team winning in Miami. There's some praise for the format, which produces some compelling moments … that nobody seems to be watching in person or on TV. They express some happiness for Bryson, who has “friends by arrangement” with a team. There's less joy for Paul Casey. On the PGA Tour, they discuss Collin Morikawa's victory in Japan and the bewildering game of Beau Hossler. During recording, news breaks of the Euro Tour now offering exemptions to some PGA Tour detritus down the FEC standings. News hits on a radio interview with Lucas Glover, who spoke of the shame of a splintered USA Ryder Cup team that he'd heard about from friends “in the fight.”
In today's episode, we'll cover Scottie Scheffler's concerns about the Tour Championship format, the $18 million prize for the winner, Jason Day's participation despite expecting the birth of his fifth child, the possibility of Justin Thomas joining the Ryder Cup team, Paul Casey's disappointment in not being selected for the Ryder Cup, U.S. Amateur champion Andy Ogletree's success, and Mike Trout's collaboration with Tiger Woods' firm to develop a golf resort.Sources: ABC News, Golf Digest, Yahoo Sports
Paul Casey's journey from a troubled past to a thriving fitness entrepreneur is nothing short of remarkable. Raised in a broken home where his mother struggled with drug and alcohol addiction, and his parents' split left him feeling uprooted at the tender age of 12, Paul's life seemed destined for a rocky path. Moving to a neighborhood where his family was one of the few white households made him a target for bullying, pushing him towards using anger and violence as a means of self-defense. This led him down a dark road, getting involved with drugs at just 15 to fit in with his peers. Before long, Paul found himself entangled in a cycle of incarceration, homelessness and stays in mental institutions. By the age of 18, he was incarcerated in an adult jail, and later, he ended up in prison due to his involvement with methamphetamine and firearms. It was during those 19 months behind bars that he had an awakening. Paul realized he wanted more from life and decided to change his path upon release. However, old habits die hard, and despite his newfound determination, he fell back into selling and using drugs after some time outside prison walls. Facing a daunting sentence of 27 years, he ultimately received a 10-year sentence. The first nine years were a struggle, but Paul refused to accept that as his fate. He emerged from the fog of his past and recognized the need for a true transformation. As a two-strike criminal with a plan to return to the familiar when in trouble, Paul had an epiphany—he couldn't let that be his destiny. Seeking guidance, he approached an inmate who had managed to stay on the straight and narrow. This encounter proved to be a turning point, and on August 25th, 2018, Paul was released from prison, determined to change his life forever. Paul embarked on a mission to reinvent himself, taking small, consistent steps toward a brighter future. However, healing past traumas was essential for his growth. He discovered that showing emotion wasn't a sign of weakness but a path to healing and personal growth. Setting his sights on a career in fitness training, Paul took a bold step and opened his own facility. But this newfound success came at a cost—he overworked himself, neglected his health, and spiraled into depression. Recognizing that he needed help to find a balance, he made the crucial decision to seek guidance from another mentor. Through this mentorship, he learned the importance of being a successful business owner without being consumed by the business itself. Looking back on his journey, Paul reflects on the wisdom he has gained through his experiences. If he had the chance to start over with nothing but the knowledge he's acquired, his first piece of advice to his younger self would be to invest in a mentor. He learned that fear should never stand in the way of seeking help from those who have already achieved what he aspired to do. Today, Paul Casey stands as a testament to the power of determination, resilience, and the willingness to change. From a troubled past and a life teetering on the brink of self-destruction, he has crafted a no-excuses lifestyle that empowers him and inspires those around him. By embracing his past and harnessing the lessons it taught him, Paul is not only shaping his own future but also the lives of others he touches through his fitness journey. I've spent a lot of my life trying to not acknowledge my humanness. Trying to bury it, feeling lots of shame and guilt for having human experiences and for not showing up more perfectly. If this sounds relatable to you, you're not alone. And it truly was creativity that has saved me time and time again from the trappings of these unrealistic expectations. This is probably why I fell in love with the craft of acting, it's also why I love psychology and neuroscience, it's what becoming a Creativity Coach did for me, it's the reason I love the imperfect process of podcasting and I'm now obsessed with creating permission for everyone I meet or have an opportunity to communicate with, to BE authentic. Then Andy and Brendan whip through some early impressions and controversies from the WGC Match Play, touching on Keegan's excruciating aimpoint routine, Paul Casey's lucrative WD, Reed blasting it into the line drive section, and the inconsistent rulings on a sprinkler head with red spray paint on it at the 13th. Masters Fact of the Day includes a book recommendation as well as a mid-century review of Augusta National. Flashback Friday goes back to the start of this century, when Tiger was at his peak powers but a scuffling “rotund” opponent got the best of him in Match Play.

This Monday night episode reacts to the wild, interminable 2022 Players Championship. Andy and Brendan begin with Cameron Smith's biggest career win to date, and exactly how he got it done with perfection in some areas and, well, some relatability in others. There are not a lot of kind words for conservative Paul Casey, even though he did catch a crap break. The drama around Viktor Hovland confronting Daniel Berger over his drop at 16 is also reviewed. Anirban Lahiri is praised as the anti-Paul/Pat Casey. Then they get to Saturday, taking on the complaints about an inequitable draw on the tee sheet and an inequitable hole in the island 17th. They revel in the type of shotmaking it produced and praise the journey that may have produced a less-than-ideal leaderboard come Sunday. At the end, Gold Boy is given one last round of applause, while Collin Morikawa gets a critique, and the topic of redesigning of the 17th is given one more pass.
