Brad Grimmett is a Steadicam Operator. On Walking Backwards he talks to other Steadicam Operators and crew members about the business of film and television. Mostly it's just drinking beer and telling stories though, which is much more fun.

    Ivy Insights

The Walking Backwards podcast is a breath of fresh air for Steadicam operators and camera enthusiasts alike. It is the kind of podcast that I never even thought to search for, assuming that such a niche topic wouldn't have existed. However, I am so glad that it does because it provides a platform for Steadicam ops to share their insights and experiences. As someone who works alone on set, it is rare to get a glimpse into the work processes of other operators, making this podcast an absolute must-listen.

One of the best aspects of The Walking Backwards podcast is the opportunity to hear from fellow Steadicam operators. The host does a fantastic job of allowing the guests to take center stage and share their expertise. This gives listeners a chance to gain valuable insights into different techniques, challenges faced, and creative approaches taken by these professionals in their line of work. The variety of guests also adds depth to the discussions, as each operator brings their own unique perspective and experiences to the table.

However, there are some instances where the podcast can lose focus when trading anecdotes. While these stories can be interesting and entertaining, they sometimes overshadow the main topic being discussed. It would benefit the podcast if the host could find a balance between letting guests share anecdotes while staying on track with more focused discussions about techniques, equipment, or industry trends. This way, listeners can get both educational and entertaining content without losing sight of what they came for.

In conclusion, The Walking Backwards podcast fills a much-needed gap in providing a platform for Steadicam operators to come together and share their knowledge. Despite some moments where focus may be lost during anecdote exchanges, this podcast remains an excellent resource for anyone interested in Steadicam operation or cinematography as a whole. Kudos to Brad and everyone involved in bringing this enlightening conversation series into existence!
