On episode 162 I am delighted to be joined by Eamon Devlin of Minute 9. Eamon is a lawyer by trade however left his role and pursued research on halftimes in sport. He suddenly realised there was very little research in on halftimes and set up his business Minute 9 (hear the reason for the name in the podcast!) to help coaches and teams manage their halftimes. That business has grown to 8 staff members and work with some of the biggest sports teams and clubs in the world. Eamon shares his story from starting out, to ideas and concepts for halftimes, learning from Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid and so much more. From what not to do, to ideas on how to manage your team talk, to insights from top teams and coaches this is a great listen for any coaches and those part of a backroom team. The 2024 PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year grew up in the area and made his first big splash on TOUR at PGA National in 2023, almost winning his tournament debut in a playoff. Welcome to Why Music Matters, a podcast where we examine the power and influence that music can wield in our lives.  I'm your host, Jeff Miers. Today, my guests are three musicians who seemed destined to end up playing together. Guitarist/vocalist Drew Azzinaro, bassist/vocalist Eamon Rayhn and drummer Ethan Fox all hail from Buffalo, NY, and they met in the music department at the State University of New York at Fredonia a decade back.  It would take them a few years and a handful of varied musical ventures for them to finally come together as the FAR Trio. But when they did start playing together as a unit, to borrow a phrase from Robert Fripp, “Grace was present.” Performing what they describe as a blend of “earthy fusion and soul-drenched rock'n roll,”  with a healthy dose of improvisation and a keen ear for adventurous song structures, the Far Trio quickly earned a reputation as a top tier live act. They've since released a pair of studio albums, and are currently at work on a third, in Woodstock, NY.  In between, they've managed to perform more than 150 shows a year across the Northeast.   During our chat, we touched on musical inspiration, the power of improvisation, and music's ability to elevate both the musician and the listener.  Welcome to Why Music Matters, Drew, Eamon and Ethan - the FAR Trio.

Hailing from Buffalo, NY, F.A.R. is a seasoned band formed by college friends Ethan Fox, Drew Azzinaro (a celebrated jazz guitarist), and Eamon Rayhn. Over the past decade, they've built a reputation for their eclectic, soul-drenched performances throughout the Northeast, playing over 150 shows annually. They have released two albums: "FAR Trio Volume 1"  in 2019 and "Ordinary Moments"  in 2022, recorded with legendary producer Scott Petito. Their latest album showcases 14 original tracks, offering a diverse range of sounds from organic and soulful to raunchy and blues-tinged. The band has graced stages at prestigious venues like the Northwest Jazz Festival, the Carnegie Jazz Festival, The Bitter End, Rockwood Music Hall, Shakti Lounge, So Far NYC, etc., and countless other venues and halls together. Ethan, Drew and Eamon joined Rockabilly Greg In the Flamingo Lounge on January 15, 2025.
