Hawk Rock Talk: Rock Autopsy - Classic Rock One Hit Wonders, Volume 2Jason Gore and Geoff “The Angry Man” Garlock return to the classic rock morgue for another examination of the songs that radio refused to let die.But what exactly makes a classic rock one-hit wonder? A song does not necessarily have to dominate the Billboard charts. Sometimes one regional program director simply decides that “Never Been Any Reason” needs to play three times a week until the end of civilization.Jason and Geoff investigate the regional-radio mystery of Head East, the yodeling and whistling science behind Focus, and why every classic rock station needed songs long enough for the DJ to leave the studio and take a dump. They also uncover the interconnected musical universe of Jim Peterik, connecting The Ides of March's “Vehicle” to Survivor, 38 Special, Sammy Hagar and enough Sylvester Stallone montage music to power an entire training facility.Plus: Pete Townshend secretly joins Thunderclap Newman as Bijou Drains, Pilot's “Magic” is permanently converted into an Ozempic commercial, The Knack gives us Weird Al Yankovic, Sugarloaf demands that you stop calling them, Manfred Mann remains responsible for Bruce Springsteen's only number-one songwriting hit, and Free inspires the cheapest crematorium in Val Verde. Most importantly, the episode produces two future Hawk institutions: Morgenson's Crematorium and legendary afternoon radio personality Stanch McTuckens.Support 108.9 The HawkJoin the Patreon for bonus episodes, playlists and more Hawk Rock Talk:patreon.com/1089thehawkHawk Rock Summer is winding down, but Series Seven of 108.9 The Hawk begins Monday, August 17th.Tell your friends. This week, Paul and Adam reveal new details and discuss the arrest (and subsequent release) of 80-year old Geoff Ball by RCMP officers at a protest in Wolfville, which took place two weeks ago after a speech from NS Premier, Tim Houston. Premiers from across the country are asking for clarity on the upcoming expiration of the RCMP's contract to police much of the country on a contract policing basis. We review the different approaches provinces are taking. Also discussed this week;- two contenders are in place for the Liberal leadership contest in NS. Adam predicts the winner, and next Premier of NS. - the Supreme Court of Canada unanimously decided that the federal ethics commissioner's decisions are not immune from judicial oversight, opening the way for a claim that Justin Trudeau violated the Conflict of Interest Act in the WE Charity scandal. - Global News announced that they will no longer produce morning news programming in markets across the country.
Geoff Wilson is one of the most experienced adventurers in the world, with a particular affinity for wind powered travel. He's crossed Antarctica (and holds the world record for doing so), the Sahara Desert and the Simpson Desert, to name a few. His latest mission is to cross the Canning Stock Route, an 1,850km route regarded as the most remote 4WD track in the world, using wind power or human power alone. This episode was recorded on the reconnaissance mission to scout out the project, shot in the Tanami Desert just outside Billiluna, WA. Thanks Geoff for having us out there. In this episode, we discuss how a wind powered crossing actually works, why the people who've walked this track by camel say the vegetation makes it impossible, kiting into Billiluna and the kids who'd never seen a kite before, why he changes kites instead of persisting with one that half works, the ice bath course and the young vet who wouldn't put her toe in, suicide in veterinary science, losing his dad and his best mate in the same twelve months, and why he thinks hard times make good people. If you'd like to hear more adventures from Geoff, we sat down for a full length episode last year. #131 Geoff Wilson: A Life of Adventure — Spotify | Apple Podcasts | YouTubeYou may also enjoy these episodes: #124 Mark Mathews: Recreate the Fear — Spotify | Apple Podcasts | YouTube #156 Kitalé Wilson: How a Life of Adventure Taught Me to Slow Down — Spotify | Apple Podcasts | YouTube Listen and subscribe:SpotifyApple PodcastsYouTube Follow for more:Podcast InstagramKeegan's InstagramTikTokSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
This episode of the Vegan Pod is a nostalgic celebration of how one man's commitment to the cause helped spread the vegan word around London's creative scene in the 1970s and 80s. Geoff Francis ran a chain of record shops, All Change Records, in London's West End and was involved in animal advocacy, working alongside the likes of Linda McCartney, Carla Lane and Captain Sensible, before establishing himself as an artist, author and film-maker. Geoff's story isn't just one for vegans of a 'certain vintage'; it's an inspiration for all vegans, young, older and somewhere in-between.

How do we begin to understand the landscape of our soul in light of our spiritual journey? What does it look like to live a more integrated life—one that honors the connection between mind, body, and spirit? For pastors and authors Cyd and Geoff Holsclaw, these questions became deeply personal as they explored their own spiritual formation and the hidden forces that shape the way we relate to God, ourselves, and others. Drawing from the science of attachment and its profound spiritual implications, they have examined how our earliest experiences of connection can influence our understanding of God, our relationships, and the way we navigate the world. In their book, Landscapes of the Soul: How the Science and Spirituality of Attachment Can Move You into Confident Faith, Courage, and Connection, they offer a compelling framework for cultivating deeper intimacy with God and greater wholeness in our lives. In this conversation, Davey, Cyd, and Geoff explore why faith and healing can sometimes feel disconnected, how attachment theory provides a powerful lens for understanding our spiritual lives, and what it looks like to navigate the terrain of our souls with compassion, honesty, and grace. If you've ever wondered how your past experiences continue to shape your relationships, your faith, or the way you see yourself and God, this episode offers both insight and hope. No matter what terrain you've traveled, healing and transformation remain possible through Christ, deeper self-awareness, and the secure connection we were created to experience. What does the world's most prolific cybercrime operation look like from the inside? And why does it operate suspiciously like a mid-sized tech company, complete with HR headaches, salary negotiations, and a distracted boss nobody respects? Ron Eddings sits down with investigative journalist and author, Geoff White, who has spent over 20 years covering cybercrime for the BBC, Channel 4 News, and Sky News. Geoff has read 47,000 of Conti's 300,000 leaked internal chats, the gang that dominated the ransomware world in 2021 and 2022, pulling in hundreds of millions of dollars in ransoms. From the Moscow movie studio the gang's leader used to launder money years previously, to the Ukraine war leak that brought the whole Conti empire down, this one plays like true crime… because it is. Geoff makes the case that defenders should think the same way: you're not buying security tools to fend off a hoodie in a basement, you're investing to outcompete a rival business. For anyone trying to integrate a better incident response plan, this episode reframes the whole conversation. Hawk Rock Talk Classic: GenesisHawk Rock Summer continues on and this week we feature a Hawk Rock Talk Classic. Originally released October 21, 2022, it's Hawk Rock Talk: GENESIS!Jason Gore and Geoff “The Real Person” Garlock go deep into the long, strange and surprisingly emotional history of Geoff's favorite band: Genesis. And Genesis is not just one band. It is several completely different bands occupying the same school uniform. There is the strange British progressive-rock Genesis fronted by Peter Gabriel. There is the transitional version with Steve Hackett and Phil Collins. There is the three-man Genesis that filled arenas, dominated MTV and provided the soundtrack to Saturday mornings in the Gore household. Then there is Calling All Stations, which also technically happened.Jason and Geoff work through the albums, explain why recommending Genesis requires a psychological evaluation of the listener and attempt to determine how a band that once wrote “Supper's Ready” eventually became one of the biggest pop groups on Earth.Plus: Phil Collins reluctantly becomes the singer, Peter Gabriel dresses like a flower without warning anyone, Tony Banks remains the irritated backbone of the operation, “Illegal Alien” is launched into space and Jason accidentally begins climbing up on Salisbury Steak.Support 108.9 The HawkListen to more Hawk Rock Talk and every episode of 108.9 The Hawk at 1089thehawk.com.Support the station at patreon.com/1089thehawk.108.9 The Hawk Series Seven premieres on August 17th! In the last podcast (#183 - How Does Energy Flow Keep Your Horse Alive And Healthy?), the energy potential of the cell is its ability to perform all necessary functions, which was the product of supply (energy flow) and demand (energy resistance). The "sweet spot" for the supply and demand is regulated by the individual. But living in the human world has affected the amount of energy available for cellular functions or the cell's ability to use it (energy resistance). The result can be either too much or too little of each, which results in malfunctioning cells, illness, lameness, and even death. In this podcast, I look at the flow of energy in a way that allows horse owners to see horses as energy containers, with energy flowing through them from food into movement and then into waste (water and carbon dioxide). This simplicity allows us to identify the friction points that cause illness and poor performance. The concepts given here are actually simpler than how you think about your horse care now. Clarity allows you to look at your horses (and possibly yourself) with a better understanding of how the body works. Health improvements come specifically from reduced stress and inflammation, which can help your horse perform better and stay healthier. Timestamps: 0:00 - Introduction and review of Podcast 183. Energy Potential (EP) = Energy Flow (EF) x Energy Resistance (ER), the supply and demand theory, and Energy = mass times the speed of light squared, or E = mc² 3:54 - The 3 cell functions that require energy, all cell functions have a cost, and all cells have a finite maximum amount of energy. 7:23 - Resistance and Energy Flow affect the cell's ability to function. 11:44 - Supply and demand within cells, presented as a math problem: disease is when the product of decreased energy flow and increased energy resistance falls outside of the cell's "sweet spot." 12:35 - Colic in terms of energy. 14:32 - Laminitis in terms of energy. 16:28 - All other diseases in horses in terms of energy. 18:00 - Why increasing food intake doesn't increase cell energy. 21:15 - Using diet and exercise to adjust cell energy use to find the "sweet spot." 25:30 - The effect of stress on cellular energy potential. 27:37 - Summary: energy supply x the demand for that energy = the cell's energy potential (health or illness). ******************************* #horses #veterinary #horseteeth #horsecare #equinedentistry Join us at The Horses Advocate Community page: https://community.thehorsesadvocate.com/yt Dentistry: https://theequinepractice.com/ Horsemanship Dentistry School: https://www.horsemanshipdentistryschool.com/c/information/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheHorsesAdvocate Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/horsesadvocate/ Geoff Tucker is a veterinarian and horseman who has worked with horses since 1973, earning his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University in 1984. Episode 121 After eight episodes, Foretold: Australia's Whiskey Au Go Go Fire comes to its dramatic conclusion. In this finale, we examine the extraordinary events that unfolded after James Finch's release from prison, including his televised confession, his immediate recantation, and the allegations that reignited questions about police corruption, fabricated confessions, and perjury. We also explore the competing theories that have surrounded the Whiskey Au Go Go fire for more than fifty years—from organized crime and protection rackets to insurance fraud, revenge, and international heroin trafficking. Finally, we dive into the evidence presented during the recent coronial inquest, discuss why its findings remain eagerly awaited, and share where we believe the evidence points after eight weeks of research. But above all, we remember the fifteen innocent people who lost their lives on March 8, 1973, and examine the building failures that transformed a criminal act into one of Australia's deadliest nightclub fires. Episode Description: #134 In this episode, Geoff and Katrina tackle a sticky question that comes up time and again when talking about and defining the genre of fairy tales. Are fairy tales supposed to teach a moral? Or are the morals something that readers bring into the tales for themselves? Geoff and Katrina test the theory while looking at a tale type that really lends itself to moralizing, ATU 555 The Fishman and His Wife. While Geoff and Katrina agree that these tales might be easier than others to bookend with some moralizing, what does our time, place, and culture bring to the discussion? Regardless of whether the storytellers of the past meant for us to get any meaningful life lessons out of these stories, we're gonna do it anyway. It's our right as listeners and consumers of tales. Stories Told: The Fisherman and His Wife by Grimm Brothers The Stonecutter as found in The Crimson Fairy Book by Andrew and Leonora Lang Books and Essays Cited: Teaching Fairy Tales edited by Nancy L. Canepa Morals and Miracles: The Case of ATU 555, “The Fishman and His Wife” by Victoria Somoff The Complete Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm Translated by Jack Zipes The Crimson Fairy Book by Andrew and Leonora Lang Other Episodes Mentioned: #82 Disability in Fairy Tales: Riquet of the Tuft #119 Tales of the French Salon

What happens when an entire region realizes it can no longer solve its water challenges alone? In this episode, Geoff Vanden Heuvel explains the origins of the Water Blueprint for the San Joaquin Valley, a collaborative effort bringing together water agencies, commodity groups, local governments and other stakeholders to develop a unified strategy for California's agricultural future. He discusses SGMA's impact, the need for regional cooperation, infrastructure investments and why building consensus may be just as important as building new water projects.

A year ago, I had serious concerns about the impact AI could have on humanity. Today, I use it in nearly every area of my life, from my business to my marriage and even with my kids. But learning how to use AI effectively requires a lot more thought and intention, and treating it less like a smarter version of Google. Today, I'm sitting down with my good friend Geoff Woods. Geoff is the author of the #1 international bestseller The AI-Driven Leader: Harness AI to Make Faster, Smarter Decisions. He helps individuals and executive teams use AI not as a replacement for human thinking, but as a thought partner that helps them solve problems, challenge assumptions, and make better decisions. In our conversation, Geoff shares his CRIT framework and explains how it can completely transform the way you use AI. He also shares how he created an AI marriage coach and how his executive assistant used AI to completely redefine her role, earning two promotions and putting herself on a path to becoming Geoff's COO. Whether you're skeptical of AI or already using it every day, this episode will challenge the way you think about what's possible.
