Episode 116 John Stuart spent years insisting he had been framed. Most people dismissed the claim as just another excuse from a career criminal with a long history of arrests, escapes, and bad decisions. But the attempted murder conviction that haunted Stuart's life may not have been as straightforward as it appeared. In Part 3 of our Whiskey Au Go Go series, we examine the 1965 shooting of Sydney underworld figure Jacky Steele, the conviction that transformed Stuart into a deeply paranoid man, and the conspiracy he believed followed him for the rest of his life. Along the way, Stuart develops an obsession with alibis, begins documenting his movements through postcards, befriends one of Queensland's most respected detectives, and repeatedly warns nightclub owners about the growing threat of protection rackets. As Brisbane's criminal underworld collides with allegations of police corruption, organized crime, and extortion, Stuart finds himself once again at the center of the story. The question is whether he's a whistleblower, a criminal opportunist, or something in between. Because when the Whiskey Au Go Go burns, investigators will discover that John Stuart had been warning people for months that a nightclub was going to be firebombed. The problem is that John Stuart was also the man they suspected of setting the fire. Sources for this episode include Geoff Plunkett's excellent book, The Whiskey Au Go Go Massacre: Murder, Arson and the Crime of the Century, along with contemporary reporting and historical records. A group of dedicated veterinarians joined me to talk about the launch of the Homeopathic Veterinary Teaching Group (HVTG), a new training academy for vets who want to learn and practice homeopathy. We discussed some of the challenges facing the veterinary profession today and how homeopathy has helped many vets find renewed purpose and satisfaction in their work. The conversation also explored HVTG's goal of passing on knowledge through mentorship, hands-on learning, and a strong sense of community. Along the way, we talked about the importance of understanding animals as individuals and how this approach can help vets provide more holistic care. Episode Highlights: 05:27 - The Birth of HVTG 08:59 - Curriculum Development and Teaching Methods 12:23 - The Learning Environment 18:03 - The Impact of In-Person Education 21:01 - Course Structure and Logistics 21:47 - Target Audience for the Course 24:35 - Growing Demand for Natural Solutions 26:37 - Curriculum Highlights 34:28 - Why this course matters for vets today About my Guests: Geoff Johnson is a veterinarian with nearly 40 years of clinical experience and more than 30 years of using homeopathy in practice. After working as a country veterinarian, he discovered homeopathy and became fascinated by its potential to improve animal health, leading him to pursue formal training in Oxford as a veterinary homeopath and later continue his studies in human homeopathy. Throughout his career, Geoff has developed a particular interest in the relationship between physical health, stress, behavior, and individualized patient care. In addition to his clinical work, he is passionate about teaching, lifelong learning, and advancing thoughtful conversations around integrative approaches to veterinary medicine. Emily McAteer is a Dublin-based veterinary surgeon with a special interest in integrative medicine, combining conventional veterinary care with homeopathy to provide individualized, patient-centered treatment. A graduate of University College Dublin, she has more than 20 years of experience using homeopathy in small animal practice and holds the MFVetHom qualification from the Integrative School of Medicine in Bristol. Emily has also trained at the Irish School of Homeopathy and is qualified to treat both animals and people. In addition to her clinical work, she is passionate about teaching, mentorship, and helping build a supportive international community for veterinarians interested in integrative approaches to animal health. Peter Gregory is a veterinary surgeon who discovered homeopathy after qualifying and later built his practice around its use in animal care. He trained in veterinary homeopathy in the UK and has since spent many years working in referral practice, alongside teaching veterinarians in the UK and internationally. With decades of clinical experience, he has also co-authored key texts in veterinary homeopathy and contributed widely to the field. His work focuses on helping vets apply homeopathic principles in practice while encouraging a more thoughtful, holistic approach to animal health. Barbara Jones is a veterinary surgeon with qualifications including BVMS, MRCVS, and VetMFHom, and she has built her career around integrating conventional veterinary medicine with complementary therapies, especially homeopathy. After qualifying in the UK, she went on to study at the Royal London Homeopathic Hospital and became a member of the Faculty of Homeopathy in 1992. In 1994, she established Oakwood Veterinary Centre, where she combines diagnostics and treatment with a holistic approach that includes homeopathy, acupuncture, nutrition, and herbal medicine. She is also involved in teaching and supporting farmers and veterinary professionals in learning and applying homeopathy in practice. In this Father's Day talk, Geoff, our guest speaker talks the importance of building a lasting legacy that impacts future generations, drawing inspiration from the life of Daniel in the Old Testament. Despite facing extreme adversity as a captive in a foreign land, Daniel left a profound, enduring legacy by consistently choosing faithfulness and integrity.Geoff identifies four essential "building blocks" for creating a meaningful legacy: Deep Convictions: Choosing to live by one's convictions, as Daniel did when he resolved not to defile himself with royal food. Bold Faith: Stepping out in faith even when the path forward is unclear, illustrated by Daniel's willingness to interpret the king's dream. Courageous Truth: Speaking necessary, difficult truths boldly, such as when Daniel confronted Belshazzar regarding his failure. Consistent Prayer: Establishing prayer as an unbreakable habit, even in the face of death, which served as the foundation of Daniel's life. Sharing the personal story of his own grandfather—a once dangerous man who was transformed by faith and became a committed, praying patriarch—the speaker highlights that a powerful, generational legacy is often built through lifetime habits rather than isolated dramatic moments.

In this episode of FOMO Sapiens, Patrick McGinnis sits down with Geoff Cook, CEO of Noom, the leading digital health platform combining psychology, technology, coaching, and clinical care. Geoff co-founded The Meet Group, a NASDAQ-listed social entertainment company he led for 18 years through its $500 million sale, before joining Noom to tackle something bigger: the full picture of human health. The conversation gets into why GLP-1s are only as effective as the habits built around them, what the real data shows about weight regain after discontinuation, how Noom's behavior change stack actually works, and why microdosing is quietly becoming one of the most interesting developments in preventative health. Geoff also shares why he started microdosing himself, what it did to his running habit and A1C, and how AI is making it possible to deliver genuinely personalized health guidance at scale for the first time. For this week's bonus podcast, we return to the stories of those unfortunate Corrie residents who've found themselves behind bars for crimes they didn't commit. Picking up where we left off last week, we revisit Gail's imprisonment for the murder of her hapless husband, Yasmeen's time on remand for trying to bump off Geoff and the time when Peter found himself sharing a cell with a certain hot-headed blast from the past... We also consider whether Coronation Street will ever be able to recreate the public frenzy sparked by Deirdre's imprisonment: with that benchmark seemingly impossible to beat, which current character would stand the best chance of having fans metaphorically waving banners outside the studios demanding their release? And, perhaps more importantly, whose wrongful imprisonment story could still feel fresh and compelling in 2026? We'd love to hear your thoughts!

Women's T20 World Cup 2026, Day 5, Australia v Bangladesh, India v Netherlands: Not competitive games, but there was some enjoyment to be had from the Dutch performance, while very nervous, against a powerful India side. Less so as Bangladesh faltered against Australia, but key absences raised more interesting questions about which XI will do the job from here on in. Adam and Geoff look over the day. There is a con called the Spanish Prisoner. A letter arrives from a stranger: a wealthy man sits in a foreign jail, and for a small advance to free him, he will reward you many times over. The trick is at least four hundred years old. It is also, give or take a few details, the email sitting in your spam folder this morning. I keep that in mind whenever someone tells me cybercrime is a technology problem. The tools change. The mark does not. We are still robbed through the same prehistoric wiring: a flash of fear, a moment of greed, a decision made in panic before the slow part of the brain wakes up. That is the thread I pulled on with Sarah Armstrong-Smith at InfoSecurity Europe. Sarah spent nearly thirty years in cyber and crisis leadership, was Chief Security Advisor at Microsoft, and now runs Secure Horizons. She has written two books on the human side of all this and sits on the UK Government Cyber Advisory Board. After all of it, she says the thing most people in her position will not say out loud: whatever we are doing is not working. More tools, more money, more people, more AI, and the problem keeps getting worse. Attack, wake-up call, attack, wake-up call. How many wake-up calls, she asks, does anyone need? I asked what keeps her up at night. She described an industrial accident on the scale of 9/11, triggered through a network: the first time a cyber incident kills people in numbers. We have been lucky so far. She doubts luck is a plan. The industry loves a big number, and the number is exactly where the human disappears. X million records stolen, Y terabytes gone. The day before, my friend Geoff White sat in this same chair and described a ransomware attack that shut down a hospital, which meant a woman missed the cancer appointment she had counted on. That is an Armageddon, and it has a name and a face. Sarah, as it happens, knows Geoff's work well enough to carry a line from him on the back of her book. The human element keeps finding the same small circle of people willing to talk about it. So how do we move this from a line item to a fact of society? Her answer is collective resilience. There is no prize for being the last one standing, because we are all wired into the same supply chain, the same dependencies, the same brittle web. And the smallest businesses, the ones without a war chest to ride out the storm, are the ones we discuss the least. Then a statistic. Close to half of all crime in the UK is now fraud or cyber. Around one percent of policing is pointed at it. Read those two numbers again. We fund what we can see, and we want officers on the street because a visible patrol both deters the thief and reassures the neighbourhood. The crime that actually empties our accounts happens somewhere we have agreed not to look. Follow the money, Sarah says, and you rarely stop at one criminal's pocket. It pays for the next thing: drugs, weapons, and more often than people imagine, the trafficking of human beings. Will AI save us? She did not flinch. Whatever you build to detect, the other side uses to evade. The asymmetry holds. Technology is part of the answer and never the whole of it, because the problem was never only technical. So what do we carry forward, and what do we leave behind? We carry the person behind the number: the one who misses the appointment, the small shop that never reopens. We leave behind the fantasy that a clever enough machine will spare us the harder work, which is teaching a whole society to recognize the Spanish Prisoner when it arrives, wearing this year's technology. Sarah's books are linked below, with a second edition on the way. Geoff's conversation is part of this same coverage. And if you want more of these, the newsletter lives at marcociappelli.com. Let's keep thinking. — Marco Co-Founder ITSPmagazine & Studio C60 | Creative Director | Branding & Marketing Advisor | Personal Branding Coach | Journalist | Writer | Podcast: An Analog Brain In A Digital Age ⚠️ Beware: Pigs May Fly |
In a massive industry shakeup, Sports Card Investor and Cards HQ have officially combined into a single entity and taken on a multi-million-dollar outside investment from Shamrock Capital and N1 Ventures. But why would Geoff Wilson, after bootstrapping the business from his basement into a 14,000-square-foot mega-store, give up a percentage of his company and take on the pressure of a corporate board? In this episode of The Geoff Wilson Show, Geoff pulls the curtain back on the harsh realities, massive risks, and brutal stress of scaling a retail card business nationwide. Learn exactly why the original Cards HQ business plan was completely flipped upside down, the 8-month grueling due diligence process of raising capital, and how the investment arms of the MLB and NFL Players Associations (OneTeam Partners) plan to help scale the sports card hobby. Whether you are thinking about opening a local card shop, looking to scale an existing business, or just want a behind-the-scenes look at the business of sports cards, this episode is a blueprint for hobby entrepreneurship. Key Topics Covered: The Bootstrapped Beginning: From editing YouTube videos at 3 AM on a free laptop software program to launching the first version of Market Movers. Flipping the Cards HQ Blueprint: Why the initial business plan relied entirely on live-selling and breaking to survive, and how overwhelming physical retail demand completely altered the company's trajectory. Why We Took the Money: Geoff explains the massive capital requirements needed for nationwide retail expansion, inventory control, real estate, and event scaling. The Strategic Investors: The breakdown of Shamrock Capital (originally the Disney Family Office) and N1 Ventures, and why taking "smart money" provides crucial connections to media, entertainment, and professional athletes. The 8-Month Fundraise: The grueling due diligence process led by Ezra Levine, the emotional cost of giving up company ownership, and the pressure to maintain authentic collector culture while scaling corporate operations. The Local Card Shop Playbook: Geoff's top entrepreneurial advice for collectors wanting to open an LCS, including the necessity of proving your model as a show dealer before signing a lease. Welcome to Elevating Brick and Mortar. A podcast about how operations and facilities drive brand performance. On today's episode, we talk with Geoff Henry, President of the Americas at Gong cha. Geoff Rhyne, Co-Founder and CEO of IDefine, discusses the mission to advance research into Kleefstra syndrome, a rare genetic disorder, and to find a treatment where there is currently none. This organization of parents of children with KS is advocating for broader genetic sequencing to identify KS patients and differentiate the condition from other possible diagnoses, such as autism. Their research strategy is to first build the necessary infrastructure, including real-world data, model systems, and clinical guidelines, to de-risk the process for researchers and directly fund drug development. Geoff explains, "We're dedicated to advancing research, building community, and driving progress for Kleefstra syndrome. And the inspiration behind it is that a bunch of parents had impacted children. And, namely, for me, my daughter Ella received her diagnosis on February 26th, 2019. You asked a rare disease parent. Their diagnosis day and odds are they'll be able to rattle off pretty quickly because it is life-altering and changing. And once we looked around the landscape of Kleefstra syndrome and what was being done, we identified a need. And so a group of other parents and I came together and founded the organization in 2020." "KS is one of these rare genetic disorders, and it affects brain development and basically every aspect of a child's life. And it could encompass developmental delays, feature delays, seizures, kidney issues, and cascading other conditions. So what happens with KS is that when you get the diagnosis, folks have often gone on a diagnostic odyssey. It's very rare that folks are being identified early on. And so we're part of that cohort that believes there are many more patients out there with KS, but the diagnostic odyssey is a real challenge. And so we typically will see kids receiving their diagnosis from three years to we've had someone diagnosed at 40 before, which is just a crazy experience as you can imagine." #IDefine #KleefstraSyndrome #EHMT1 #RareDisease #RareDiseaseResearch #NeurodevelopmentalDisorders #GeneticDisorders #PatientAdvocacy #CaregiverSupport #FamilyLedResearch #RareDiseaseCommunity #PrecisionMedicine #Genomics #MedicalResearch #ClinicalResearch #TranslationalResearch #DiagnosticJourney #PatientSupport #ResearchFunding #InclusiveCare #PatientVoices #RareDiseaseAwareness IDefine.org Listen to the podcast here

Embodied Faith: on Relational Neuroscience, Spiritual Formation, and Faith
Geoff continues talking with regular guest David Clayton about how the Desert Fathers and Mothers understood sin as discorder (of all kinds) and how asceticism was a path toward freedom to love God and others. They discuss sin not merely as rule-breaking but as patterns that impair clear seeing, free choosing, and loving well. Asceticism is presented as training that frees the heart by reshaping habits, while emphasizing grace, mercy, and the hope to “begin again” each day. They particularly focus on the concept of "watchfulness" and the neuroscience of "paying attention." Episode 115 In Part 2 of our Whiskey Au Go Go series, we leave the nightclub behind and turn our attention to the man who would become the central figure in the investigation: John Andrew Joshua Stuart. Long before the Whiskey Au Go Go fire claimed 15 lives, Stuart was already well known to police, journalists, and much of Brisbane's criminal underworld. Raised in a home marked by violence, poverty, and abuse, Stuart's life became a revolving door of arrests, reform schools, mental institutions, prison escapes, and newspaper headlines. This week, we follow Stuart's journey from troubled child to notorious criminal, exploring the brutal conditions at Westbrook Farm Home for Boys, his involvement in Australia's bodgie and widgie subculture, his repeated clashes with police, and his growing reputation as a man who always seemed to be at the center of the action. We also examine Stuart's unusual relationship with Sunday Truth reporter Brian "The Eagle" Bolton, a connection that transformed Stuart from an ordinary criminal into something far more influential: a source. Time and again, Stuart appeared to possess insider knowledge of crimes, escape plots, and events before they occurred. Sometimes he warned people. Sometimes he claimed no one listened. As police would later discover, that pattern would become impossible to ignore. Because years before the Whiskey Au Go Go burned, John Stuart had already established himself as a man who seemed to know things before they happened—and a man who desperately wanted people to pay attention. Sources for this episode include Geoff Plunkett's excellent book, The Whiskey Au Go Go Massacre: Murder, Arson and the Crime of the Century, along with contemporary reporting and historical records. What a week! Our jam-packed episode of Sacred Symbols covers all of the announcements from both Sony's State of Play presentation, as well as Geoff Keighley's Summer Games Fest showcase. And let's just say, there's a ton to get through. State of Play's 25 game roster included a fresh, expanded look at Wolverine, the reveal of Firesprite's long-rumored Until Dawn 2, and the confirmation of a brand new God of War game in the form of Laufey (plus a ton of third-party stuff, including Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Silent Hill: Townfall, Control Resonant, Phantom Blade 0, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, and more). Geoff's show went even harder, with a full 53 games displayed, including the culmination of the Final Fantasy VII Remake saga in the form of Final Fantasy VII: Revelation, the always-assumed Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake en route in 2027, two new Cuphead titles, the Stellar Blade sequel Blood Rain, and so on. We have other news this week, too -- MMORPG Horizon: Steel Frontiers has been delayed, California's legislature is going after developers and publishers who delist games, Fable has been delayed until next year, and so on -- but really, the meat of the show is all about these E3-like pressers. Even the questions at the end! So buckle up for one long episode of Sacred Symbols.
