Why do you believe what you say you believe? For many years Jon would ask his believing friends that very questions. The answers he got were not persuasive and usually he left the conversation more affirmed in his atheism. The reason we should believe something is because it accurately reflects the way the world really is. In this talk Jon explores his past as an atheist and shows why he had to make the worldview change he did as his atheism started bumping him into reality. Some bumps were harder than others. Today, on Karl and Crew, we continued our weekly theme of “Tough Questions for Christians” with discussions about walking with Jesus despite suffering and tribulations. We turn to John 6:66, where we see a conversation between Jesus and the Twelve Disciples, in which Jesus asks if they intend to leave Him, along with the other disciples. Peter responds by saying there’s no other place they’d rather be because Jesus gives eternal life and they believe He is the Holy One of God. We then turned to the phone lines to ask our listeners, "What was your 'where else would I go' moment with Jesus?" We then had Dr. Michael Rydelnik join us to talk about why God chose Israel. Dr. Rydelnik is a Professor Emeritus of Jewish and Biblical Studies and an adjunct professor in the undergraduate program at MBI. He is also the host and Bible teacher of “Open Line,” which airs every Saturday from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. CT on Moody Broadcasting and over 225 other stations. Then we had Jonathan Noyes join us to share his faith story, explaining how he transitioned from an atheist to a believer and how he came to understand God’s sovereignty amid evil. Jonathan is a Speaker and Outreach Coordinator with Stand to Reason, a nonprofit organization that equips Christian Ambassadors with wisdom, knowledge, and character to share the Gospel. Jonathan was a former atheist who has now become a believer and has a passion for training Christians to think more clearly about their beliefs and effectively communicate why they hold those beliefs to others. Jon grew up in Plymouth, MA (between Boston & Providence) knowing essentially zero Christians and never stepping foot in a church.. except maybe for a friend's school project. In his late teens and into his twenties, he loved talking to Christians - to destroy them! In argument. He knew which questions to ask to stump Christians and loved "making them look stupid." He couldn't believe that anyone didn't believe in Darwin's evolutionary theory. Yet, now he spends his life defending the Christian faith. How in the world did that happen? Tune in to hear that story, including some amazing and entertaining stories of ways Christ has moved through Jon in the years since. If you are a Christian, you are called to be an ambassador for Christ!Make sure you are a 1 Peter 3:15 Christian - "but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect"Attend Reality Conference this year! https://www.realityapologetics.com/More about Jon: https://www.str.org/jonathan-noyesEmail interview & speaking Inquiries for E.J. to ej.freedomfamilies@gmail.com
It's been a month since Kris and Tara have seen each other's faces and they have a lot to catch up on! Kris is in hell, physically and otherwise, dreaming of her recent relaxing, internet-free trip to the lake. Tara's kids are back in the September school rush, so everything's a blur between that and work. They talk Jimmy Kimmel, Jon Stewart, as well as Harlequin's recent sapphic releases, which are a nice change from yesteryear. Official Recommendations From Kris: Can We Skip to the Good Part by Melissa Brayden Kris's official recommendation this week is Can We Skip to the Good Part by Melissa Brayden, her first independently published book. It's a story of new beginnings, as a woman is let go from her job and starts fresh in a new town with her best friend and a new book club. This story offers love, insane chemistry, and some tricky maneuvering. If you haven't read anything by Brayden before, Kris thinks it's a great place to start. From Tara: One Weekend in Tahoe by Jaime Clevenger Tara's official recommendation this week is the one-night-to-forever One Weekend in Tahoe by Jaime Clevenger. It's a trope-filled erotic romance set in the worlds of philanthropy and sex parties (not at the same time) that balances enough sweetness with a little bit of the real world. What does it look like to raise children who can stand firm in their faith—while also engaging the culture with grace and truth? In our latest Homeschool Talks episode, Jonathan Noyes from Stand to Reason shares his own journey from atheism to Christianity and how that transformation fuels his passion for equipping families. In this discussion with HSLDA President Jim Mason, they explore how to introduce varying worldviews while planting seeds of the gospel in your children. “We don't just keep our kids in these little bubbles and then suddenly when their adults throw them out, because they won't survive. What we should be doing is inoculating our kids with the truth. Teaching our kids. in the context of our homeschool communities, teaching them about evolution, and not just the Christian perspective of evolution. Teach them from the naturalistic, the “true evolution”, and then you teach them what it really means to be an evolutionist. You teach them why [it is] wrong. . .we should be exposing our kids in appropriate ways to worldview issues at a young age because they're going to get exposed. Once your kid gets a phone, once your kid get access to online stuff, it's already too late. So we should be exposing our kids in order to inoculate, not isolate, in order expose them to the wind so they don't just get pushed over.”—Jon Noyes
Based on what he's accomplished, it's hard to believe that Dennis Noyes isn't a lifelong motorcyclist. But it's true as he didn't discover the sport until he was in his 20s, with a visit to the Spanish Grand Prix in 1968. That was all it took as he was immediately hooked. Noyes started riding and that quickly turned into racing. Then came the perfect job as a motojournalist, which not only allowed him to cover the World Championship, but also gave him the opportunity to test motorcycles and write about them. Since then, Noyes has become one of the most respected journalists in the MotoGP World Championship, having both written and spoken extensively about motorcycle racing as both a print and television journalist. More recently, Noyes has also made good on a dream of writing a non-motorcycle novel. We caught up with Noyes from his home in the desert town of Borrego Springs, California, to talk about motorcycle racing and life as an American in Spain on this week's episode of Off Track With Carruthers And Bice.Support the show
It's back-to-school season and illness is in the air! Kris returns from her deathbed with tales of the flu (definitely NOT a recommendation) and Tara encounters her first COVID romance (which is a recommendation). Kris lays out tips for eBay seller success and Tara discusses her reaction to James Dobson's death as an ex-Evangelical (TL;DR: fuck that guy). Official Recommendations From Kris: Giant Little Ones (2018) Kris's official recommendation this week is Giant Little Ones (2018). It's a film about two high school boys who are teenage royalty and adored by the girls, whose lives are changed during an epic 17th birthday party. According to Kris, this story is full of drama, reminding her of how awful those teenage years are. There is some violence against gay people in this movie, but Kris still thinks the quality and the story are worth the discomfort if you're able. From Tara: Make or Break by E. J. Noyes Tara's official recommendation this week is Make or Break by E. J. Noyes. It's a sapphic romance novel that takes place on the set of a police drama between one of the leading actors and the key makeup artist. They've each had a crush on the other for years, but never knew if their crushes were returned. Tara says this one is a gentle romance with excellent character arcs. On today's podcast I had the privilege of speaking with Irish actor Diarmuid Noyes, the co-lead of the movie ‘Christy', which has been winning awards in Ireland and abroad and rave reviews from movie critics everywhere. Diarmuid plays the character Shane in the movie brilliantly, as he wrestles with the job of trying to steer his brother Christy on the right path and at the same time, not to derail his own life. Diarmuid talks in detail about the huge preparation that goes into getting a part like this right, the process around the whole movie and the special bond that has grown between the novice actors and the more experienced actors like himself and Emma Willis, who played his wife Stacey in the movie. He has been acting since he was nine years of age, a career shaped in some ways by a crush on Mary Kate Olsen and personal circumstances, and even now he still finds this crazy profession challenging. Diarmuid is extremely humble, finds praise a difficult thing to accept and for some strange reason he gives himself too hard a time. Yes Diarmuid, you are a brilliant actor. Enjoy the show... Christy opens in Irish cinemas on the 29th August, and in Britain from the 5th September. The book I referred to at the end of the podcast is called The Surrender Experiment. Hello, Kaiju Lovers! If you're joining us just after G-Fest, welcome! In this abridged episode of our Patreon-exclusive podcast, you'll hear Nathan and executive producer/MIFV MAX “prime” member Damon Noyes discuss (or rather, riff) a “pseudo-remake” (and by that, we mean “second cousin twice removed”) of Reptilicus with the 2009 SyFy movie Reptisaurus. It claims to be based on the Charlton comic, which was a Reptilicus comic for two issues, but the $15 CGI creature looks nothing like it. And there's no alien named Bob. What about Bob?! Instead, we get a cadre of 35-year-old college students, two bumbling soldiers, and Buck Rogers in his living room, er, office. It may look like an Asylum movie and quack like an Asylum movie, but it isn't an Asylum movie, no matter what Grok may tell you. (Yes, Nathan experimented with X's AI assistant to research this and had to fact-check the robot). Strap in, Kaiju Lovers! Tune in for in-the-field audio, insights on race logistics, and a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to conquer this legendary ultra-marathon.
It's happened: MotoGP is now the property of Liberty Media, owner of Formula 1. So, what now? Well, things are definitely going to change and that might not be a bad thing. Change is life, right? The only question is which changes are necessary, which are wanted and which are inevitable. To find an answer to this, Mat and Peter turn to the one and only Dennis Noyes. Dennis was a racer, he's one hell of a journalist and commentator, and he's right here with us for a little chat. See, this isn't the first time that the whole circus was sold and it most definitely won't be the last. So what happened last time around, when the Spanish moved in and Dorna Sports bought it all? And how was that different from now? Noyes is intimately familiar with this world, covering MotoGP from Spain. His son, Kenny Noyes, won the 2014 Spanish Superbike championship before suffering a career-ending crash the following year. You want someone that knows the culture, the history and the sport? Noyes is your man. So join us as we attempt to look at the future of MotoGP under it's new corporate overlords, before immediately getting distracted and talking instead about that time King Kenny gave the King of Spain rabbit ears. Hey, what were you expecting? Cheers! Want more? Visit our website or support us on Patreon. Send us a textWhen most Wasatch skiers were starting to put their skis away for the Season, local crusher Mali Noyes set out on one of the most challenging efforts I've seen in the Wasatch in recent memory: skiing all Chuting Gallery lines as fast as possible. Accomplishing her goal of all 93 lines in just 47 days, Mali not only pushed herself, but also pushed the limits of what's capable in our beloved local mountains. I'll catch up with Mali in this episode to talk about the project and hear what it's like to handle so much steep skiing, exposure, and risk in such a short amount of time.I'm not sure how many more episodes I'll publish before the start of next Winter. So thanks everyone for all the listens, streams, downloads, follows, and most importantly the supporters on the Buy Me a Coffee website. The user supported model for small creative projects like this one is a great way to support your local community. The Salt Lake Snowcast is also supported by Alpha Coffee. Thanks for the love and we'll be back soon!
Mali Noyes just pulled off a mind-blowing feat in the ski world: completing the Chuting Gallery in 47 days. That's 93 chutes (she actually did more than that) around the Wasatch in 47 days, with over 200,000 feet of vert climbed, while navigating tricky conditions, complex terrain, incredible physical demands, and mental and emotional fatigue. And she pulled it all off in a time that seems almost unfathomable. So how did she do it? And what led her to take it on? Jonathan Ellsworth talks with Mali about all of it, including some of the best advice she received from Greg Hill, Cody Townsend, Janelle Smiley, and Sam Smoothy.RELATED LINKS:Episode Sponsor: Skratch LabsGet Yourself Covered: BLISTER+Mali's YouTube ChannelTOPICS & TIMES:Skratch Labs: JE's favorite product (1:14)New BLISTER+ Members (2:13)History of The Chuting Gallery (3:47)What Were Your Goals? We're celebrating May, Historic Preservation Month, with an episode on the Modern houses of the 1950s and 1960s. Could you live in a glass house? New Canaan, Connecticut's Mid-Century Modern homes designed after the Second War are world famous. In addition to Philip Johnson's Glass House, now a museum, New Canaan has homes designed by Marcel Breuer, Eliot Noyes, Frank Lloyd Wright and Edward Durell Stone. Each one is a part of architectural history and is a masterwork of the era's most talented architects. But by the 1990s, people began to demolish these relatively small homes sited on large lots. People in New Canaan began to band together to save these artworks-”machines for living”. Towns across Connecticut have at least one or two good Mid-Century Modern homes worth saving and celebrating. Host Mary Donohue discusses what a homeowners and community members can do to help save these modern homes. Her guests are Gwen North Reiss, historian and author of New Canaan Modern: A Preservation History published by the New Canaan Museum and Historical Society in 2024 and Mary Dunne, Deputy State Historic Preservation Officer for the Dept of Economic and Community Development and homeowner of an architect-designed, Mid-Century Modern home. For more information on New Canaan's Modern houses, order your copy of Gwen North Reiss's book New Canaan Modern: A Preservation History from the New Canaan Historical Society. Hello, Kaiju Lovers! This episode was five years in the making for executive producer Damon Noyes—so he talked for five hours! He's been clamoring for all his favorite podcasts to cover the infamous Danish kaiju movie, Reptilicus (1961/1962), which became something of an icon in spite of itself. In this episode of Mastering Modern Selling, Andrea Waltz, co-author of Go for No: Yes is the Destination, No is How You Get There, joins the conversation to explore the psychology of rejection in sales. With over 25 years of experience, Andrea shares why sellers fear rejection, how to shift their mindset, and why embracing failure can lead to greater success. If you've ever hesitated before reaching out to a prospect or felt discouraged after a lost deal, this episode will help you reframe rejection as a valuable tool for growth. Why We Fear Rejection (And How to Overcome It)Human nature wires us to avoid rejection, as it triggers fears of exclusion. The more exposure you have to rejection, the less it impacts you—building resilience over time.Experienced sellers don't avoid rejection; they learn to navigate it strategically. No is Not Personal—It's DataRejection is often about timing, priorities, or misalignment—not a personal failure.Sellers should analyze patterns of rejection to improve messaging and sales strategies.Viewing rejection as feedback rather than defeat creates a mindset shift that fosters long-term success. The Disappearing Training Ground for New SellersWith automation taking over early sales activities, new sellers miss out on learning how to handle rejection.Fewer cold calls and outreach attempts mean less opportunity to build resilience.Sales leaders should create structured opportunities for new reps to experience rejection in a safe, constructive way.The No-to-Yes Ratio: Tracking Your Rejection RateEvery salesperson has a success ratio—knowing how many "no's" lead to a "yes" removes fear from the equation.Instead of dreading rejection, sellers should actively seek it out as part of their process.Andrea's Go for No challenge encourages salespeople to aim for a set number of rejections, reframing them as progress rather than obstacles. Why a Fast No is Better Than a Slow MaybeMany salespeople fear hearing "no" and waste time on deals that won't close.A clear, early rejection is beneficial—it saves time, allows sellers to move on, and refines the pipeline. Some of the most effective sales strategies involve leading with what your product doesn't offer, helping unqualified buyers opt out early.Andrea Waltz challenges the traditional fear of rejection by redefining it as a necessary step toward success. By tracking "no's," embracing failure, and learning from rejection, sales professionals can develop resilience and improve their effectiveness.Instead of avoiding rejection, what if you welcomed it? What if every "no" brought you closer to a "yes"? That's the essence of Go for No—and it's a game-changing mindset shift for modern sellers. Don't miss out—your next big idea could be just one episode away! This Show is sponsored by Fist BumpYour prospecting partner to authentically fill your pipeline with ideal customers.
