Dr. Benny Fong joins co-hosts Heather Brown and Keane Fine to share perspectives and tips for leveraging AI as a teacher. Dr. Fong provides practical applications, ethical considerations, and how AI, when used wisely, can help minimize the mundane and allow educators to focus on relationships for Kingdom impact. What are your experiences with AI in your classroom or school? Share with us at podcast@teachbeyond.org. Episode 147: Being Human in the Age of AI “The misconception is that the kids will just shift totally to using an artificial teacher or something. [...] We know that book learning is really only one part of learning. The bigger part of learning comes from a mentor, a teacher, a guide to light that fire of curiosity.” “The whole idea of generative AI is to generate new content based on past context and experiences and information.” “You have to treat it as a new technology, emerging technology. What are you comfortable with?” “As with any technology, we [have] to know the ethical boundary and the privacy first,” Suggestions for practical application: ChatGPT for lesson planning with differentiation Perplexity or Copilot search engines Real-time translation Multi-modal feature “We don't want to shortcut the process for beginning teachers to become good teachers. We don't want to shortcut the process for students to learn their content.” “I think the danger obviously is always viewing tools as good or bad. It's always nuanced. I think that the more that we understand the tool [...] the better we can wield this tool [...] for God's work and for His Kingdom.” “As educators, we are lifelong learners.” “AI is really just the latest in terms of tools that forces us as educators to be flexible in how we engage our stakeholders.” “Education leaders have to start [...] They need to recognize that things are changing. They need to work with the teachers and parents and students to formulate prudent policies first to get on the same page. Then, once things are on the same page, then that frees up the teacher to the next step, which is to innovate and learn.” “We want to build [...] salt and light and ambassadors to the world that needs the Gospel. What does that look like with the help of AI?” “Minimize the mundane stuff so that I can maximize the relationship.” “Real leaders are created through mentoring and through relationship. So, what I feel is that AI, if used properly, can actually maximize that relationship building and mentoring aspect with those around us.” Learn more about TeachBeyond's Transformational Teaching Conference here. In this episode of the Healthy by Heather Brown podcast, Heather dives into the importance of mental, physical, and spiritual health in children with her guest, Rebekah Weigel, a producer, writer, and foster/adoptive parent. They discuss the movie 'Sound of Hope,' which focuses on a community-based adoption and foster care model inspired by real-life events from a small church in East Texas.Heather and Rebekah explore the church's role in supporting children both locally and globally, addressing the various traumas that children encounter today. Rebekah shares her journey from psychology to filmmaking, the challenges and blessings of foster care, and the critical role of community support in encouraging adoptive families. Families who serve children through foster care and adoption are embodying the role of local missionaries and are meeting a great need. While more foster and adoptive families are needed, the church can also support these parents by offering prayer and care in the same way it would for international missionaries. We are called to be set apart, salt and light, in a dark world. In the marriage corner, this episode focuses on the balance of phone usage to foster better family relationships and concludes with actionable insights for parents on how to stay present in their children's lives.Scripture verses highlighted in this episode include:James 1:27 “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained.”2 Corinthians 12:9 “But he said to me,  ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Welcome to another episode of the Healthy Healer podcast. In this captivating interview with Dr. Heather Brown, a psychotherapist and healer, we explore her unique perspective on life as a beautiful journey, shaped by personal adversity, including the loss of her mentally ill mother to suicide. Heather shares how her connection to nature and expertise in reframing thought patterns empower individuals to break free from feeling stuck. Discover the transformative power of rewriting our own stories, cultivating self-healing, and embracing challenges as opportunities for growth. Join us for a brief yet impactful exploration of happiness, resilience, and self-discovery with Dr. Heather Brown on the Healthy Healer podcast.   Here are the key takeaways from this interview: - Heather chooses to view life as a beautiful, magical, exciting journey rather than labeling it all as "crap." This mindset empowers happiness. - Loss of her mentally ill mother who committed suicide shaped her path to become a psychotherapist and healer herself.  - Time in nature was grounding and kept her mother more present. This influenced Heather's spiritual connection to nature. - Reframing sticky thought patterns empoweringly is Heather's specialty. It gives people options vs feeling stuck. - We can rewrite our own story and choose to be whoever we want in each moment. The past does not define the present.  - Heather helps people excavate their own ability to heal vs "healing" them.
