The idea to produce a lyric-driven, faith-promoting music album to combat depression had been stewing inside of Paul Cardall for some time. In November of 2017, it was time to act. - - - Different types of social media use have been linked to anxiety, depression and low self-esteem among today's youth. And it's not just the youth. The annual financial cost of depression in the United States is a staggering $210 billion. Enter the "Worth of Souls" project. The musicians involved in this project ranged from college students to Nashville recording artists to American Idol contestants. They varied in upbringing and religious beliefs, but stood united in sharing a message of God's love with those who desperately needed to hear it. In April of 2018, the "Worth of Souls" music project debuted at #20 on Billboard Music's Christian charts. Since that time, stories and feedback have started coming in. One listener wrote: "I recently went through unexpectedly losing my mother. The shock and sadness have been overwhelming. 'Come As You Are' helps me realize our Savior's love." Another listener was so touched by the music that he flew from Rhode Island to Utah for the album release concert. Another listener had been dealing with deep depression that had affected personal relationships and cut short a church mission. He wrote: "...I was mad at God for taking (my grandfather.) I fell into a dark place in my life. 'Worth of Souls' has helped mend my broken heart, feel less depressed, and see God's plan." As modern science continues to discover the impact of music on anxiety and depression, it's important for ALL those affected by depression to realize there's hope. Hope for those surrounded by sadness. Hope for those who feel alone and in the dark. And hope for those friends and family members who interact with them. International music artist Paul Cardall, with roots in Utah, was listening to a sermon in a church in Tennessee where Alvin Love III said, "Maybe the reason people don't SEEK God is because they don't believe they're VALUABLE to God." Cardall, already in the middle of producing a Christmas album, put his current project on hold and commenced gathering a team of artists focused on one purpose: create an album of songs with arrangements and lyrics designed to increase self-worth and combat anxiety and depression.
Millions of youth and adults are suffering from depression. Thousands have given up. The underlying cause of suicide is an unbearable pain derived from a pervasive sense of hopelessness, a loss or lack of connection to others and a life-long pattern of self-destruction, according to Edwin Schneidman, Ph.D. author of Why People Die by Suicide (Harvard University Press 2005). Music has been clinically proven to calm anxiety and ease pain. Worth of Souls is a team of award-winning recording artists who’ve produced an altruistic album of original and award-winning contemporary Christian songs that promote the Savior’s unconditional love and mercy. We all experience doubt, anxiety, and some of us have walked the lonely path of depression. Unfortunately, some have been called unworthy and don’t know their value. Worth of Souls plants seeds of faith and restores confidence in ourselves and our ability to let go and let the Savior manage our lives. This album is an effective tool to share with the prodigal, the pilgrim, the doubter, the saint. Find out more about Paul Cardall and Worth Of Souls here http://a.co/apYwYmI
