In this All Souls Day homily, Fr. Dom calls us to face the the reality of the last 4 things: death, judgment, heaven, and hell. Too many men live as if eternity doesn't matter. But this episode will shake you awake. Heaven is your goal. Purgatory is real. Hell is forever. It's time to get serious about your soul.Fr. These three days aren't separate celebrations but one unified call to holiness. On All Hallows Eve, we prepare for the saints. On All Saints Day, we honor our heavenly family. And on All Souls Day, we fight for the souls still being purified in purgatory.The souls in purgatory need our prayers. The saints in heaven are cheering us on. And we, the Church Militant, must run the race like men who refuse to quit. Drawing from Scripture, the sacraments, and personal experience, Fr. To be very clear, the best guide you can possibly have for making choices is Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the strength of youth. So the purpose of For the Strength of Youth is to point you to Him. It teaches you eternal truths of His restored gospel—truths about who you are, who He is, and what you can accomplish with His strength. It teaches you how to make righteous choices based on those eternal truths.13 It's also important to know what For the Strength of Youth does not do. It doesn't make decisions for you. It doesn't give you a “yes” or “no” about every choice you might ever face. For the Strength of Youth focuses on the foundation for your choices. It focuses on values, principles, and doctrine instead of every specific behavior. The Lord, through His prophets, has always been guiding us in that direction. Fr. Chris reminds us that today — the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed — is one of the most important days of the Church year. Though it's not a solemnity or feast, its spiritual weight is immense. Following the glory of All Saints Day, we now turn to the souls who still await their full union with God — the holy souls in Purgatory. Together, these three days — All Hallows Eve, All Saints, and All Souls — form what the Church calls Allhallowtide, or the “Triduum of Death.” It is not dark, but deeply merciful, because it reveals God's justice and His love.Too often, people misunderstand Purgatory. It is not a second chance, nor punishment, nor forgiveness of sins — that happens in the confessional. Rather, it is the merciful purification of souls who died in grace but still need to be cleansed of attachment and the lingering effects of sin. As Fr. Chris teaches, “Christ paid the price for our redemption, but He did not remove the consequences.” A loving Father forgives, but still allows us to repair what was damaged. That is justice in love.The Church calls us — the Church Militant — to help the Church Suffering through prayer, fasting, indulgences, and sacrifices. The poor souls cannot help themselves; even the saints in Heaven cannot directly shorten their time. But you can. Offer Masses, rosaries, and daily sufferings for them. Each small act of love can release a soul into Heaven. “Love covers a multitude of sins” (1 Pt 4:8).As Fr. Chris beautifully says, “Perhaps some of those in Purgatory are there because of us.” Today, we make reparation — not only for our sins, but for those we may have influenced. Pray for your loved ones, forgive those who've hurt you, and offer every moment as a work of mercy. All Souls Day 2025

Welcome back to The Help Me Abide Podcast. I am truly honored to introduce today's guest.Joining us is Mrs. Rhoda Smith, a faithful missionary who, along with her husband Robert Smith II, has served the Lord for over thirty five years on the mission field. Together, they've had five children, two of whom are living, and have dedicated their lives to sharing the Gospel around the world.The Smiths began their missionary journey in Nigeria, West Africa, where God used them to start a church that continues to bear fruit to this day. From that work, around thirty people have gone out to serve in ministry, with more than sixteen currently pastoring, one serving as an evangelist, and others training in Bible college.Today, the Smiths serve faithfully in Barbados, where they have planted the St. Philip Independent Baptist Church, an inspiring ministry named for the location they serve in. God has blessed their ministry with faithful believers whose spiritual growth, as local pastors say, is “like watching a tree grow.” Slow, steady, but truly miraculous. The kind of growth that only God can bring.The Smiths have also had the joy of witnessing something rare and precious on the island, marriages. In a nation where most homes are led by single parents, they've seen God transform lives and families, and they've even had the honor of helping some couples take that beautiful step of faith together in marriage.Most importantly, through countless visits, Bible studies, and conversations, they've been able to share the truth of salvation by grace and the free gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ with many who had never heard the message clearly before.One of Rhoda's favorite stories is of a dear older woman who began to weep as she heard for the very first time that eternal life is a gift from God already paid for by Jesus. Moments like that remind her why she went, why she serves, and why she must keep sharing the truth.From a big day attendance of 1,200 in Nigeria to 168 in Barbados, God has proven Himself faithful every step of the way. Souls have been saved, lives transformed, and churches established where once there were none.And of course, we can't forget some of the simple joys of life in Barbados, like macaroni pie, chicken curry, and yes, even fish: something the Smiths didn't grow up loving, but now enjoy as a staple of island life.Oh, and one quick note before we begin. Please forgive the audio quality in this episode. We had a little trouble keeping the internet connection stable, so we actually ended up recording over the phone with the phone on speaker, held up to the microphone. But I promise, the message and the heart behind it are worth every bit of it.Are you ready to be encouraged and equipped to abide in Christ? Friends, All Souls Day, November 2, falls on a Sunday this year, so we can really spend some time reflecting on this wonderful feast, which means so much to Catholic people. Why do we pray for the souls in purgatory? I wonder if I could begin by reflecting on why we speak of the “soul”—this higher principle breathed into us by God that survives the death of the body.
