Somedays you just can't get rid of a gentleman, but today, we just might get rid of their shirts. After Jonathan outlines another plan for after being elected President of the United States of America, we spend a moment talking about James Bond in both movie and video game form, focusing on the GameCube era game "Everything or Nothing" starring Willem Dafoe (for real). Later, Jonathan talks with game developer Shawn Alexander Allen (Nu Challenger, Treachery in Beatdown City) about his new spin off game "Beatdown City Survivors" and where it fits into today's political climate (you can also watch the interview here: https://youtu.be/NEq9dH9hflw . We're up to the early 1880s where world events are intersecting in various ways with southern African events. The mere ratification of the Pretoria Convention in 1881 failed to bring peace and prosperity to South Africa. The frenzied speculation in diamond shares reached it's height in 1881, and war expenditure had swelled the tide of fictitious prosperity which had flowed from Table Bay to Lydenburg. Now the troops and the glory departed, Natal after the pomp and ceremony of the Wolseley period, drifted into a political backwater — and yet clamoured for responsible government and an augmented imperial garrison. In the Cape, the overcapitalised diamond companies began to topple, and banks shortened credit and in 1882, the crash came. John Scanlen the Cape Prime Minister succumbed to what some called retrenchment mania and laid off judges amongst other members of the bureaucracy. Times were bad, and growing worse, with Phylloxera visiting the Western Cape vineyards, drought had smote the land and red-water fever the cattle. It was old testament level pestilence and suffering, at least if you read the journals of the time. Did I mention the outbreak of smallpox as well? How remiss. It scoured Cape Town first, this pestilence, from whence it followed the railway and wagon route to the diamond fields of Kimberley, and from there into the Orange Free State and Basotholand. Plagues of locusts chewed through what was left. For anyone who would return to an earlier epoch in South African history, believing these were golden years, perhaps the reality I've just outlined would make you recalibrate your Time Machine. SJ Du Toit launched his pro-Afrikaans campaign by the early 1880s, railing against die Engelse and the elites in the Cape who were determined to keep speaking high Dutch instead of this new form which was disparagingly called Kitchen Dutch. Emerging at this messy moment to influence South Africa forever was a lawyer who eventually became known as Lord De Villiers. It's difficult to understand this these days — in the 1880s South Africa was still a mishmash of rebels, settlers, African chiefdoms, Khoesan raiders, dirt tracker miners and trekboers, wild Baltic and Nordic merchants, American and Australian frontiersmen. Every geographical locale was represented by a different language so folks like De Villiers who obsessed over federal ideas were outliers. Self-government meant they leaned towards the Union Jack, the English, for defence, but not the Union Jack as a cloak for interference in the internal affairs of the Cape. The quarrels divided the Anglican community particularly in Natal into adherents of the Church of England, and the Church of the Province of South Africa. The two main questions were these: Must Anglican Bishops in South Africa be appointed by Letters consecrated by the Archbishop of Centebury, and secondly, was the Church in South Africa bound by acts of an Imperial Parliament in England far far away or mainly independent? De Villiers was going to decide both questions — and in doing so — would set the scene for a future South African Republic while also setting in stone, some of our concepts in South Africa of the right to practice the religion we prefer.

Solomon gives us our newest passage of the day, about fair weather friends and people in the closets of life.Jesus is rejected, at trial, in favor of a robber.PASSAGE OF THE DAY 108On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water." But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified."John 7: 37- 39

Spotify DescriptionIn this episode, I share my hands-on preview impressions of Sword Art Online: Echoes of Aincrad after spending around two and a half hours with the game.Echoes of Aincrad feels like a more deliberate and challenging take on the Sword Art Online formula, bringing in Souls-like combat, stamina management, companion mechanics, gear upgrades, open-world exploration, and a stronger sense of danger than I expected.I break down the opening dungeon, character creation, the Town of Beginnings, the return of Akihiko Kayaba's Game Master moment, weapon variety, companion abilities, and the first major boss fight that gave me a real difficulty spike. For SAO fans, this preview left me feeling like Echoes of Aincrad could be one of the more exciting entries in the franchise if the full game builds on this foundation.Mahalo for listening!#SwordArtOnline #EchoesOfAincrad #SAO #AnimeGames #GamingPodcast #JRPG #MekelKasanova

Sound Healing with David Gibson Musical Intervals and The Music of Relationship: David Gibson on Intervals, Harmony, and Dissonance David Gibson Opens Sound Healing In this episode of Sound Healing, host David Gibson opens with updates from the Sound Healing Center, Globe Institute, and upcoming programs, including open houses, summer intensives, online certificate training, recording classes, the Mount Shasta Sound Healing Retreat, and voice-analysis software training. He then introduces the central topic of the episode: musical intervals, or the relationship between two notes, as a model for understanding the relationship between every kind of thing in the universe. Musical Intervals as States of Consciousness David explains that musical intervals are not only musical structures, but also feelings or states of consciousness. He walks through several intervals, including unison, octaves, perfect fifths, perfect fourths, major thirds, major seconds, minor seconds, sixths, and sevenths. He describes unison and octaves as deeply harmonious, the perfect fifth as calming, sweet, healing, and movement-oriented, the perfect fourth as spacious and suspended, and more dissonant intervals as activating rather than inherently bad. His point is that each interval carries a specific emotional or energetic quality. Ratios, Frequencies, and Sacred Geometry David then connects musical intervals to mathematics. An octave is a two-to-one ratio, a perfect fifth is three-to-two, a perfect fourth is four-to-three, a major third is five-to-four, and a minor third is six-to-five. He explains that these ratios can also appear in sacred geometry, such as the relationship between the lengths of sides in a triangle. For David, this means intervals are not just sounds; they are measurable relationships that can appear in space, form, vibration, and proportion. Timbre, Harmonics, and Sound Healing Instruments David distinguishes between musical intervals created by two separate notes and the hidden intervals inside a single sound. When a person sings one note, or when an instrument such as a gong, harp, Tibetan bowl, or piano produces a sound, that single sound contains many frequencies and harmonic relationships. He explains that activating instruments such as gongs, bagpipes, saxophones, and clarinets may contain more dissonant internal relationships, while instruments such as harp, acoustic guitar, and wood drum can contain warmer, sweeter relationships. This helps explain why different instruments affect the body and emotions differently. Intervals in Nature, Color, Geometry, and the Planets The episode expands from music into nature and cosmology. David says atoms, molecules, elements, colors, geometries, planets, moons, and orbital relationships can all be understood through interval-like relationships. He gives examples such as hydrogen and oxygen forming water, colors that harmonize or clash, and planetary relationships connected to the ancient idea of the music of the spheres. He also discusses Jupiter's moons and the Earth-Sun relationship as examples of cosmic ratios and vibrational relationships. The Body as a Harmonic Structure David applies the same idea to the human body, saying every cell, organ, and medical system has frequencies and relationships. He suggests that health may be understood as harmonious interval relationships among the parts of the body, while illness may involve disrupted or dissonant relationships. He speculates that if researchers could identify the musical-interval “template of perfection” among cells, organs, and body systems, sound could potentially be used to support healing across many conditions. Emotions, Thoughts, Souls, and Relationships David also applies musical intervals to inner life. He describes emotional conflicts, such as loving and hating someone at the same time, as dissonant relationships. Positive emotions such as gratitude, compassion, love, and joy are described as more coherent frequencies that can move together in harmonious ways. He extends this to thoughts, soul relationships, twin flames, soul groups, and romantic or personal chemistry, suggesting that people may experience each other as harmonious or dissonant based on deeper frequency relationships. Musical Intervals Across Every Subject Near the end, David explains that the Sound Education Association is building curriculum for children that brings frequency, musical flow, and interval relationships into subjects such as math, physics, chemistry, biology, psychology, communication, social science, history, economics, environmental science, art, engineering, computer science, physical education, ethics, philosophy, and medicine. His larger vision is that every subject can be understood as a study of relationships, and every relationship can be experienced as a kind of musical interval. Moving Toward Harmony While Honoring Dissonance David closes by playing part of his song “Awakening,” which he says is built largely around the musical fifth. He encourages listeners to notice harmony and dissonance in their lives, but not to judge dissonance as bad. Just as water hitting rocks or waves crashing into shore can create beautiful turbulence, dissonance can activate movement and help break up stuck energy. The final message is to move toward harmony whenever possible while recognizing that all relationships, even challenging ones, can serve a purpose in the larger music of life.

About The Book: BOOKS OF TERROR: EVIL EXISTS, IT'S CLOSER THAN YOU THINK. Based on the Visions of Mary Hughes: The purpose of this journey is not to present a well balanced view of humanity, but to take you directly into the heart of only one aspect - the evil within. We make no apologies for this, as this is its sole purpose; to allow mankind to see that which lurks beneath hidden sin and thereby give everyone who dares to enter into these gates a second chance. What is this second chance? To see what sin looks like in its truth and allow another choice before it's too late for the remedy. Samuel Rutherford knew suffering, imprisonment, isolation, and loss. Yet from his prison cell came some of the richest descriptions of communion with Christ ever written. In this episode of Dr. John Snyder continues exploring Rutherford's letters by focusing on one central theme: the nearness of God. Drawing from Rutherford's prison correspondence, Dr. Snyder examines the different ways Scripture speaks about God's presence and how Rutherford experienced the sweetness of Christ in ways he once thought impossible on this side of heaven. Rutherford writes of the believer's regret over loving Christ so little, the overwhelming abundance of Christ's love toward his people, the dangers of idolizing spiritual experiences, and the diligence required to pursue deeper fellowship with God. Again and again, his letters press us beyond merely knowing truths about Christ into delighting in Christ himself. What happens when a believer discovers that his soul is too small to contain the love of God? Rutherford's answer is simple: stop standing on the shore and throw yourself into the ocean. “If this whole world were the beam of a balance, it would not be able to bear the weight of Christ's love.” — Samuel Rutherford Show Notes Kingdom Life: Studies in the Sermon on the Mount: https://shop.mediagratiae.org/collections/kingdom-life The Life of Samuel Rutherford by Andrew Thomson: https://www.amazon.com/Samuel-Rutherford-Andrew-Thomson/dp/1164013874 Samuel Rutherford and His Friends by Faith Cook: https://banneroftruth.org/us/store/ebooks/samuel-rutherford-and-his-friends/ Letters of Samuel Rutherford: https://banneroftruth.org/us/store/letters/letters-of-samuel-rutherford/ Want to listen to The Whole Counsel on the go? “That kind of put soccer on my radar as a sport. I saw how deeply it meant to people, in a way I didn't appreciate prior to that. And then I was in London when the World Cup began, and I saw the opening match — Argentina and Cameroon, with Cameroon winning in an upset. Just the whole spectacle of it gave me an appreciation for the game.” — Brian Bunk, on Ireland, Italia '90, and the moment everything changed Not long now. Only seven days until the World Cup begins. Just enough time to read Brian D. Bunk's new The Shortest History of Soccer: From Ancient Kicking Games to the World's Most Popular Sport. History isn't Bunk with Brian. He looks a bit like Elton John, which is appropriate given that old Rocket Man was chairman of Watford and bankrolled the tiny English club to almost winning the league. Pop stars like Ed Sheeran (Ipswich) and Robert Plant (Wolves) love football, Bunk notes. Probably because it reminds them of where they came from. Bunk's thesis is that soccer's global dominance is not accidental. Born in the industrial communities of nineteenth-century England, the game gave workers a new identity, new evidence of their collective power, proof they'll never walk alone. That same logic explains why middle-aged men all over America religiously gather at their local bars to watch English teams with strange names like Ipswich Town and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Such is religion in our globalised post-industrial age. “Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that,” the great Liverpool manager Bill Shankly quipped. That's the shortest of short histories of football. What the working-class Shankly meant was that it gives us social meaning — which is, indeed, more historically significant than the life or death of a single individual. Or even God. Football saves our souls, Brian Bunk concurs with Bill Shankly. Enjoy the World Cup. Five Takeaways • Soccer Was Born in Industrial Communities for a Reason: The game emerged in industrial Britain in the second half of the nineteenth century not by accident but because industrialisation had shattered traditional community life. Mass migration to cities, technological disruption, the loss of familiar rhythms — all created a need for new kinds of identity and belonging. Soccer filled that need. It gave factory workers a team to follow, a ground to gather at, a shared identity that transcended ethnic and class lines. Bunk's argument: this community function is baked into the game itself, which is why it has replicated across every culture it has touched. • Why Americans Love the Premier League: Bunk identifies the 1990s as the pivotal decade for American soccer. The 1994 World Cup on home soil. The women's World Cup. The formation of MLS. The arrival of the FIFA video game. The Premier League broadcasting deals with ESPN and Fox. All of these combined and snowballed. Add to that the NFL owners investing in English clubs, the celebrity ownership wave (Ryan Reynolds, Elton John), and the cultural footprint of shows like Ted Lasso and Welcome to Wrexham. The result: a generation of Americans for whom following the Premier League is a primary source of community. • Maradona: All the Contradictions of Football in One Man: Asked which historical match he would most want to attend, Bunk chooses Mexico City, June 1986: Argentina vs England. Not for the Hand of God goal — which was cheating — but for the second goal, the one where Maradona picked up the ball in his own half, went past five English players, and scored what is generally considered the greatest goal in the history of the game. Bryon Butler's BBC radio commentary: “turning like a little eel.” Andrew's verdict: if any single figure captures all the genius, joy, turbulence, and tragedy of football, it is Maradona. • The World Cup Returns to North America: In seven days, the 2026 FIFA World Cup begins in the United States, Canada, and Mexico — the first time the tournament has returned to North America since the USA hosted in 1994. The timing of Bunk's book is deliberate. Soccer is more popular in America than at any point in history, and the home World Cup is the event that could push it into the first tier of American sports culture. The Premier League, MLS, women's soccer, and now the World Cup: the game's US footprint is larger than it has ever been. • Andrew's Game: Tottenham vs Benfica, April 1962: Andrew's own fantasy match, offered unprompted at the end: the first leg of the 1962 European Cup semi-final between Tottenham Hotspur and Benfica at the Est00e1dio da Luz in Lisbon on March 20, 1962, with Eusebio and Jimmy Greaves on the same pitch. Spurs lost 320131 on the night, went out 420132 on aggregate. Two clear penalties not given. Andrew's conclusion: had Spurs won that match, the history of European football — and possibly his own life — would have been different. He notes that he has a son, and that he should have called him Jimmy. About the Guest Brian D. Bunk is a Senior Lecturer in History at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he teaches courses on world history, modern Europe, and the global history of soccer. He is the author of The Shortest History of Soccer: From Ancient Kicking Games to the World's Most Popular Sport (The Experiment, June 2026), Beyond the Field: How Soccer Built Community in the United States (University of Illinois Press, 2025), and From Football to Soccer: The Early History of the Beautiful Game in the United States (University of Illinois Press, 2021). Welcome to the Video Store Podcast. The balloons are up. The popcorn machine is running full blast. The sno-cone machine is free today. Here at the Video Store Podcast, we're celebrating 100 episodes! For this special anniversary, we wanted to do something worthy of the occasion. No clip-show flashbacks. No “greatest hits” countdown. Instead, we headed behind the counter and pulled out four of the biggest VHS releases of all time, the movies that didn't just dominate the box office, but helped define the home video revolution. These were the rentals everyone wanted. The tapes that were always checked out on Friday night. The films that transformed the VCR from a luxury item into the centerpiece of family entertainment. For our 100th episode, we're revisiting four legendary films that helped build video store culture as we knew it.Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982)Directed by Nicholas Meyer, this sequel took the Star Trek franchise in a sharper, more dramatic direction. Admiral James T. Kirk faces his greatest adversary, Khan Noonien Singh, in a tense and deeply personal battle of strategy, revenge, and sacrifice. With Ricardo Montalbán delivering one of science fiction's most unforgettable villain performances, The Wrath of Khan remains one of the greatest sequels ever made. Its real legacy, however, may be what happened after theaters.Paramount made a bold gamble and priced The Wrath of Khan at just $39.95. The result shocked the industry. The tape became the highest-selling VHS release to date. That decision helped reshape home media forever and opened the door for the home video collecting boom of the 1980s.Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)Harrison Ford's Indiana Jones burst onto screens in 1981 with whip-cracking charisma, globe-trotting action, and one of cinema's most instantly recognizable openings. From the giant rolling boulder to the snake-filled Well of Souls, Raiders delivered nonstop thrills while redefining what modern adventure filmmaking could be.When it arrived on VHS in late 1983, priced at the same consumer-friendly $39.95, Raiders generated massive pre-orders and sold more than a million copies within two years. It became one of the first films to demonstrate that a blockbuster could enjoy a hugely profitable second life in home video. It was the kind of movie families brought home again and again, the perfect repeat-viewing experience that made it a cornerstone of early home libraries. The Karate Kid (1984)The Karate Kid was one of those movies families rented over and over again until every line of dialogue was memorized. Released in 1984, the story of Daniel LaRusso, Mr. Miyagi, and the All-Valley Karate Tournament struck a perfect balance of heart, humor, action, and inspiration. On VHS, The Karate Kid became one of the defining family rentals of the decade.Unlike the spectacle-driven blockbusters on this list, its success proved that emotionally resonant, character-driven stories could thrive in the home video market. It became a staple of Friday night rentals, sleepovers, and repeat family viewings.Batman (1989)The summer of 1989 belonged to Batman.Tim Burton's Batman wasn't just a hit movie, it was a full-scale cultural event. Michael Keaton's brooding Dark Knight, Jack Nicholson's unforgettable Joker, Danny Elfman's thunderous score, and Gotham's gothic atmosphere transformed superhero cinema forever. It was darker, moodier, and more cinematic than anything audiences expected from a comic book adaptation. Then came the VHS release.Warner Bros. priced Batman at an aggressive $24.95, making it one of the most accessible blockbuster home video releases of its era. Stores stacked walls of black-and-gold VHS boxes. Cardboard standees filled lobbies. Television commercials hyped its release like another theatrical event. The theatrical release made Batman a cultural obsession. The VHS release made it part of everyday life.Thank You for 100 EpisodesFrom Star Trek II changing VHS pricing forever, to Raiders proving the power of repeat home viewing… from The Karate Kid becoming a family rental institution to Batman turning home video into a national event, these weren't just great movies. They were the tapes that defined Friday nights. They built home video libraries, filled video store shelves, and helped create the culture we celebrate every week here at the Video Store Podcast. To everyone who has listened, shared the show, and stopped by the store these past 100 episodes: thank you!Until next time — be kind, rewind. Thanks for reading Video Store Podcast! For over 50 years, For the Strength of Youth has been a guide for generations of Latter-day Saint youth. I always keep a copy in my pocket, and I share it with people who are curious about our standards. It has been updated and refreshed to better cope with the challenges and temptations of our day. The new version of For the Strength of Youth is available online in 50 different languages and will also be available in print. It will be a significant help for making choices in your life. Please embrace it as your own and share it with your friends. This new version of For the Strength of Youth is subtitled A Guide for Making Choices. To be very clear, the best guide you can possibly have for making choices is Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the strength of youth. So the purpose of For the Strength of Youth is to point you to Him. It teaches you eternal truths of His restored gospel—truths about who you are, who He is, and what you can accomplish with His strength. It teaches you how to make righteous choices based on those eternal truths.13 It's also important to know what For the Strength of Youth does not do. It doesn't make decisions for you. It doesn't give you a “yes” or “no” about every choice you might ever face. For the Strength of Youth focuses on the foundation for your choices. It focuses on values, principles, and doctrine instead of every specific behavior. The Lord, through His prophets, has always been guiding us in that direction. He is pleading with us to “increase [our] spiritual capacity to receive revelation.”14 He is inviting us to “hear Him.”15 He is calling us to follow Him in higher and holier ways.16 And we are learning in a similar way every week in Come, Follow Me. We believe that we can show His love by serving the “least of these” on this earth as Christ challenged us to do in Matthew 25. We pray that by God's grace, and with your support, we can continue to bring relief to the suffering and hope to the hopeless.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Matthew 5:7 Mercy = Not getting what YOU DESERVE. “To be let OFF THE HOOK.” Finally Pilate handed him over to them to be crucified. So the soldiers took charge of Jesus. CARRYING HIS OWN CROSS, he went out to the place of the Skull. John 19:16-17 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23 The wages of sin is death. Romans 6:23 #1 Mercy CARRIES Mercy PICKS UP A WEIGHT someone else was supposed to CARRY THEMSELVES. Mercy is less about giving someone a piece of your MIND, and more about giving someone a piece of your HEART. Have I prioritized a relationship of mercy, or of justice? Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed. When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals - one on his right, the other on his left. Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” Luke 23:32-34 #2 Mercy SEES. Mercy sees PEOPLE how God sees PEOPLE. Genesis 1:27 So God created man in his own image. Psalm 139:14 I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.”“There is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is Sovereign over all, does not cry,‘Mine!'” - Abraham Kuyper Mercy sees SOULS, not ISSUES. But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 1 Peter 2:9 People aren't your PROBLEM, they're your CALLING. One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at Him: “Aren't you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!” But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don't you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.” Luke 23:39-43 #3 Mercy FREES Mercy = FORGIVENESS For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. Romans 3:23-24 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23 You simply cannot be MERCIFUL if you cannot FORGIVE. If you can extend FORGIVENESS, God will overflow you with His MERCY.

In the Republic, Plato argues that philosophers make the best kings because they can perceive the "Form of Justice." James Romm explains that Plato illustrates this through the Allegory of the Cave, where the philosopher must return from the light of the sun to lead those in darkness. The work concludes with the Myth of Er, a soaring account of the soul's thousand-year journey and reincarnation. Souls choose their next lives based on previous experiences; notably, Odysseus chooses the life of an ordinary man. Plato suggests that education allows the mind to recover subconscious memories of these eternal truths. (7/8)1889 THE SYMPOSIUM OF PLATO
