God, if you're in it, I want it – If you're not, I don't. Seek God's hand. Moses said to God in Exodus 33:15, “Lord, if you don't personally go with us, don't make us leave this place.” MSG – Lord, if your presence doesn't take the lead here, call this trip off right now.” […]
#169 What do you do when God gives you a piece of your story that doesn't make sense?Maybe it's prolonged singleness. Maybe it's a closed door, a disappointment, or a season you never would have chosen. In this meaningful sunset-season conversation, Kim sits down with co-hosts Jena and Char to talk about what Jena calls the “red puzzle pieces” of life—the unexpected, confusing, and often painful circumstances that don't seem to fit with the rest of the picture.Through honest stories and biblical truth from Proverbs 3:5–6, Jena shares three powerful anchors that have helped her trust God in seasons that felt uncertain, including singleness, health challenges, and unanswered questions.Together, they explore how to: • Trust God's character when life doesn't make sense • Stop relying on your own understanding and timelines • Seek God even when you don't have answers • Find peace in knowing He is still writing your storyIf you've ever wondered whether God sees you, cares about your situation, or knows what He's doing with your life, this episode will remind you that He does. The red puzzle piece may not make sense today—but one day, you'll see how it became part of something beautiful.Resources mentioned on this episode:We're reading through the Bible together. Are You a Part of What God Is Doing in Our Country Today? Do You Seek God's Presence in Your Life? MESSAGE SUMMARY: Can you tell what God is up to in the World, in our time, in our church, and in America? Are you a part of what God is doing in the world today, or are you just reacting to what God is doing, thereby, creating conflict and division? Psalms 105 reminds you of God's power in the world if you do seek His presence in your life: “Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually! Remember the wondrous works that he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he uttered.". On the other hand, Paul, in 1 Thessalonians 1:9, warns you of the implications for not including the presence of Jesus in your worldly considerations: “They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might.”. While the Lord is leading, and directing, it seems that we are wrapped up in our agenda and our way of doing things; therefore, we miss God's presence; and we miss the Holy Spirit in our lives. TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, everything in me resists following you into the garden of Gethsemane to fall on my face to the ground before you. Grant me the courage to follow you all the way to the cross, whatever that might mean for my life. And then, by your grace, lead me to resurrection life and power. In Jesus' name, amen. Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 100). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, Because of who I am in Jesus Christ, I will not be driven by Loneliness. Rather, I will abide in the Lord's Presence. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5). Read OnlineThe Pharisees came forward and began to argue with Jesus, seeking from him a sign from heaven to test him. He sighed from the depth of his spirit and said, “Why does this generation seek a sign? Amen, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.” Mark 8:11–12The Pharisees struggled with skepticism, resistance, and trickery, reflecting the tragic reality of hearts closed to grace. They should have been the first to rejoice in the coming of the Messiah but became Jesus' staunchest critics and persecutors. Their rejection shows how pride and hardness of heart can blind even those who are most familiar with the law and the prophets. As religious leaders, their privileged role heightened their responsibility to recognize and guide others toward the Messiah, making their rejection all the more tragic.Instead of manifesting hearts open to grace, they demanded another sign, despite the countless signs Jesus had already performed: healings, exorcisms, authoritative teachings, and the miraculous feeding of the multitudes. These works were displays of divine power and fulfilled Messianic prophecies, revealing Jesus as the promised Savior.Jesus' authoritative teaching resonated deeply within those with faith. His words and works illuminated their hearts and confirmed His divine identity. The Pharisees' demand for another sign was not an act of faith but a manifestation of their obstinate resistance to the truth standing before them. How did Jesus respond to the Pharisees? “He sighed from the depth of his spirit…” This is a holy response. His deep sigh was not driven by anger or pride but by love. To “sigh” is to express holy sorrow: “Blessed are those who mourn…” (Matthew 5:4 RSVCE). Though we must have holy sorrow in the face of every sin—both our own and those of others—the sin that should evoke the deepest sorrow is that which is committed in obstinacy. Obstinacy blinds us to our sins, leading to rationalizations or excuses that prevent us from recognizing our need for repentance. When the sin committed in obstinacy is grave, this leaves a soul in the most pitiable state.By modeling holy sorrow, Jesus teaches us how we are to react to others who manifest a similar hardness of heart. We should not take it personally. Instead, we must feel the pain of their sin with empathy. Doing so is the most loving response we can make because our holy sorrow becomes a mirror of their souls, inviting them to recognize their spiritual need and turn to God for mercy. In addition to feeling and expressing holy sorrow, Jesus declares that “no sign will be given to this generation.” Jesus is not being stubborn or refusing to provide the necessary revelation that the Pharisees need in order to convert and believe in Him. He is doing the opposite. The Pharisees have already been given everything they need to come to faith in Jesus. By refusing further signs, Jesus was confronting their hardened hearts and inviting them to believe based on the ministry He had already given them. True faith arises from hearts that are receptive to grace. The fact that Jesus “left them” (Mark 8:13) is another act of mercy. By leaving them, Jesus mirrored the spiritual reality of their souls: God was absent from them due to their hardness of heart. His departure also provided an opportunity for the Pharisees to reflect on their rejection, perhaps planting seeds for future repentance. In leaving them, Jesus respected their freedom to reject Him, even as it grieved His merciful heart. Even in judgment, God's mercy is always at work, inviting sinners to return to Him.Reflect today on Jesus' merciful heart. God's mercy manifests itself in various ways, depending on our needs. Sometimes, mercy is tender and encouraging, especially when hearts are contrite and humble. At other times, mercy is sorrowful and empathetic, mourning over ours and others' sins. Seek God's mercy in your life and then resolve to become an instrument of that mercy to others, in the way that they need it, calling them to repentance and faith. Most merciful Heart of Jesus, Your compassion is profound and Your empathy deep. Please pour out Your mercy on me, in the way I need it, and use me as an instrument of Your mercy for others. May all people see their sins and, with pure hearts, repent and come to faith in You. Amos 5–6 — Seek God and Live!!What does God actually want from His people? In Amos 5–6, the answer is not more empty ceremony, but genuine repentance and renewed devotion: “Seek Me and live.” Pastor Marco walks through Amos's urgent call to abandon false confidence, religious performance, and self-indulgent ease—and to pursue the Lord with integrity, justice, and righteousness. These chapters confront the danger of loving comfort more than truth, and warn against a spiritual life that looks “fine” externally while collapsing internally. The invitation stands: seek God truly, and live—because life is found in Him, not in prosperity, appearances, or national pride.
Remember God loves you so much he sent his Son Jesus Christ to take the punishment for your sins. You are of great value. Jesus loves you and He is just a prayer away!

Seeking God and His Guidance The importance of seeking God with one’s whole heart and soul. When out in the world, there was no seeking of God. After giving life to God, seeking Him became a priority. God came seeking when lost, now seeking Him for guidance. Encouragement to seek God, ask for help, and get closer to Him. People wandering in the wilderness need only seek God for help. Seek God expecting an answer and guidance. Avoid being half-hearted in seeking God. Listening for God’s Answer The need to listen for God’s answer after asking for help. God’s answer may not be what one wants to hear. Obey the Word of God and do what He wants you to do. Personal experiences of God speaking. God speaks in different ways, sometimes strongly, sometimes as a whisper. God has never failed to answer prayers, though timing is on His time. Faith that prayers for salvation for others will be answered. Humbling oneself before God in prayer. Praying at the altar for lost people, the church, and the pastor. God hears prayers and will heal. God’s Unwavering Presence and the Comforter God will never leave nor forsake. Acknowledging times of leaving God, but the sweetness of returning. God is present when one can’t go any further without Him. God’s welcome upon returning to Him. After being away from faith, God restored faith and welcomed back. God puts His arm around and welcomes back with love. The promise of the Comforter (Holy Ghost). Jesus sent a Comforter. The importance of the Holy Ghost in life and ministry. Fear that the true Holy Spirit would scare some people. Altar Call and Invitation to Prayer Offering an altar call for those in need of prayer. The altar is not just for the lost, but for the saved as well. If there is a need, talk it over with God. Any place can be a place to talk to God. Home, car, truck, tractor, or lawn mower. The altar is a good place to come and talk to God. Invitation to come forward and pray.
Words carry extraordinary weight in our lives—more than 600,000 exist in the English language, yet how many of ours truly matter? This exploration of Proverbs 15 challenges us to examine whether our words fall to the ground wasted or carry the purposeful impact of Samuel, whose every word mattered to God. At the heart of this teaching lies a transformative truth: a soft answer turns away wrath, but harsh words stir up anger like shaking a bottle until everything explodes. We discover that wisdom isn't just about what we say, but how we say it—recognizing that we can instantly shift from heated argument to gentle greeting when the phone rings or when we arrive at church. The dichotomy is clear: gentle tongues are trees of life that heal and restore, while perverse speech breaks spirits and leaves wounds that echo for years. God sees everything—from the depths of Sheol to the intentions of our hearts—and He responds not to our religious sacrifices but to our genuine pursuit of righteousness. The call here is profound: cultivate a teachable spirit, listen twice as much as we speak (we have two ears and one mouth for a reason), and let our words be life-giving rather than destructive. When we master the art of the soft answer, we don't just change conversations—we transform entire environments and relationships.**Detailed Notes:**1. **Introduction: Words and Wisdom** - The sermon emphasizes the power of words as highlighted in Proverbs 15. - Reference to 1 Samuel 3: Samuel's words were purposeful, never wasted. - The importance of using words for positive outcomes.2. **Wise Speech vs. Destructive Speech (Proverbs 15:1, 2, 4, 7, 23, 26, 28)** - "A soft answer turns away wrath" encourages gentle responses. - Contrast between wise and foolish speech. - The power of words to heal or harm, to calm or ignite conflict.3. **The Character and Order of the Lord (Proverbs 15:3, 8-9, 11, 25, 29)** - God's omnipresence and omniscience. - Authenticity in righteousness vs. empty religious gestures. - God's knowledge of our hearts and actions.4. **Instruction, Discipline, and Teachability (Proverbs 15:5, 10, 12, 14, 31-33)** - The ability to accept reproof and seek knowledge leads to wisdom. - Encouragement to listen and be teachable.5. **Moral Direction and Life Outcomes (Proverbs 15:6, 16-17, 18-20, 22, 24)** - Moral choices lead to specific life outcomes. - The benefits of surrounding oneself with wise counsel.6. **Heart Posture and Inner Life (Proverbs 15:13-15, 30)** - Inner character impacts joy and perspective. - Joy and contentment stem from aligning with truth.**Practical Applications:**1. **Mind Your Speech:** - Memorize "a soft answer turns away wrath" and attempt to integrate this practice into daily interactions. - Focus on how words can either build others up or tear them down.2. **Seek God's Insight:** - Regularly reflect on intentions behind actions. - Pursue a life that is not just outwardly religious but inwardly righteous.3. **Be Teachable:** - Develop a habit of listening more than speaking, aiming for continuous learning and growth. - Embrace correction and seek guidance from wise mentors.4. **Assess Moral Direction:** - Evaluate daily choices to ensure they lead towards desired life outcomes. - Seek and heed the counsel of spiritually mature individuals.**Discussion Questions:**1. How can you apply the principle of a "soft answer" in your relationship with family and coworkers?2. Reflect on a time when words deeply impacted you, either positively or negatively. How can this lesson shape your speech?3. In what ways can you actively pursue being more teachable in your spiritual journey?4. How can you become more aware of God's presence in your daily decisions and actions?Try breaking down your reflections with others this week, focusing on Proverbs 15's wisdom about speech, teachability, and moral integrity.

At the start of a new year, God calls His people to more than self-improvement—He calls them to repentance and true life. In Amos 5:1–17, we hear God's lament over Israel's refusal to return to Him and His urgent invitation to seek the Lord and live. This message exposes the danger of worshiping a god made in our own image and reminds us that seeking God must be paired with seeking good, loving justice, and rejectinging evil. Ultimately, this passage points us to Christ—the only One through whom God's judgment passes over us and new life is given. For more sermons or information about our church, visit HoriconBaptist.com.#Amos5 #SeekTheLord #BiblicalRepentance #JusticeAndRighteousness #FaithAndObedience #HoriconBaptistChurch #PreachingTheWord #SeekGodAndLive
