Whether we realize it or not, we are always telling stories. On a first date or job interview, at a sales presentation or therapy appointment, with family or friends, we are constantly narrating events and interpreting emotions and actions. In this compelling book, storyteller extraordinaire Matthew Dicks presents wonderfully straightforward and engaging tips and techniques for constructing, telling, and polishing stories that will hold the attention of your audience (no matter how big or small). Sharing Jesus with Muslims: A Step-by-Step Guide ABOUT THE EPISODE:On the 67th episode of the Paul Cardall podcast, Author and Pastor Fouad Masri talks with Paul about sharing Jesus with Muslims. Fouad discusses growing up in Lebanon during a civil war between Maronite Christians and Muslims. He talks about how much hate was in his heart until the words of Jesus inviting people to love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. Fouad says doing this began to change his heart. They talk about about differences between Islam and Christianity and how the messages of each religion is misunderstood by both groups. Most muslims have never met a Christian or read the Bible. GET THE BOOK: https://www.amazon.com/Sharing-Jesus-Muslims-Step-Step/dp/0310093147 ABOUT FOUAD MASRIAuthor and lecturer Fouad Masri was born and raised in the war zone of Beirut, Lebanon. As a third generation ordained pastor, he has a passion for sharing the love of Christ with Muslims and has been reaching out to Muslims and inspiring others to follow his example since 1979. After coming to the United States to attend seminary, Fouad realized the urgency for teaching American Christians to reach out to the growing population of internationals, particularly Muslims. In 1993, he founded Crescent Project to nurture transformational relationships between Christians and Muslims and to rally the Church to reach out to Muslims to share the Good News of Christ. Since then, he has trained more than 21,000 Christians to sensitively and purposefully share their faith with Muslims through both the Bridges One-Day and Sahara Challenge training experiences. He has served as a guest instructor at several universities and Christian ministries and has been featured in several media publications including Christianity Today, Newsweek, and Mission Network News. He has appeared on CBN, TBN, the Janet Parshall Show, and Prime Time America. He is the producer and teacher in the DVD study, Bridges: Christians Connecting with Muslims. In Bridges, he further exposes Christians to the urgent need for a deeper understanding about Islam and Muslims. Fouad has authored 14 books including Outreach Magazine's 2015 Cross Cultural Resource of the Year Connecting with Muslims: A Guide to Communicating Effectively. He holds a bachelor's degree in Mass Communication and an M.A. from Fuller Theological Seminary in Islamic Studies. OFFICIAL WEBSITE: https://fouadmasri.com/ CRESCENT PROJECT: https://www.crescentproject.org/ FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/authorfouadmasri/ - - - - - - - - - - - - ABOUT THE HOST PAUL CARDALLOfficial Website - http://www.paulcardall.comFacebook - http://www.facebook.com/paulcardallmusicYoutube - http://www.youtube.com/cardallInstagram - http://www.instagram.com/paulcardall LISTEN TO HIS MUSICAPPLE MUSIC - https://music.apple.com/us/artist/paul-cardall/4312819SPOTIFY - https://open.spotify.com/artist/7FQRbf8gbKw8KZQZAJWxH2AMAZON - Ask Alexa to play Peaceful Piano by Paul Cardall Forbes writes of Paul Cardall, “His music creates an atmosphere where you can unwind, ponder, meditate. Born into an Amish family, Silicone Boone talks to Paul Cardall about exploring space and understanding our humanity with Silicone's album Reaches.  Listening to his music and in our conversation, it's clear that his upbringing in an Anish community provided the songwriter with a large vocabulary and a mind of curiosity that flows in his poetic lyrics. Like Paul Simon, his lyrics roll off the tip of his tongue in beauty and mystery. There aren't a lot of artists with a story as unique and fascinating as that of rock musician Silicone Boone. For those that aren't aware of the sub-groups of the Amish, Old Order is the most traditional of the religious group, completely shunning the outside world. He spent 9 years of his childhood free from the conveniences of modern technology. So, imagine the world the young man discovered when Silicone's family left behind their heritage for a new faith. Today he hails from Campbellsville, KY as a husband and father. Silicone Boone's curiosity of our history as humans, the creation of the world, and our role in the vast cosmos are themes in his album, The Reaches, that I have on repeat.  I was fortunate to be a guest on The Better Behavior podcast with Dr. Nicole Beurkens.  Dr. Beurkens is a champion of parents and families living with mental illness.  She is an amazing advocate and support to these families.  I was honored to be asked to be a guest because I have long admired her work.  If you are a parent raising a kiddo with extra challenges, this episode is for you.   In this episode, we are talk about an issue that isn't covered or supported nearly enough: the current systems which are failing parents who are raising kids with mental health challenges and the immense struggle parents often face when trying to get them the help they need. This can create a lot of pain and difficulties in the lives of parents (and children), to the point where the disorders and challenges can take over the family. Unfortunately, there is a lot of social stigma around this topic and especially with the mental health piece, not just for children, but for the parents of these children.   https://www.drbeurkens.com https://www.instagram.com/drnicolebeurkens/?hl=en

All Heart with Paul Cardall

Recently stepping off the stage as a host for the season finale of Canada's Got Talent, award-winning artist Lindsay Ell joins All Heart with Paul Cardall to discuss her journey leading up to CMA nominations, a Gold record, head-lining her first concert tour, and the recent release of a her hit single, “Right On Time.” Lindsay, whose toured with Keith Urban, Brad Paisely, and Sugarland is putting a voice to the pressure she feels as a career-focused woman in her 30s, “Right On Time” is an anthem for anyone who has felt pressured to be something or someone they aren't, while working on timelines determined by societal norms. ABOUT LINDSAY“I've learned to care a little less about what everybody thinks,” says singer/songwriter/guitarist Lindsay Ell. “Following my gut instinct, truly saying what I want to say—that's the magic, the elements that make you relatable and real. Before, I was worrying about writing for radio, for fans, but now this is what I know, this is my journey. And the more honest I get, the more effective it is.”With her new album, heart theory, Ell does just that, weaving the story of her journey of the heart in her own voice using her arsenal of tools as a musician and artist to give each song the sonic backdrop it deserves. “Theory is the science of music, heart theory is the science of a heart,” says Ell.The tracks take the listener along the path of the seven stages of grief: shock, denial, anger, bargaining, depression, testing and acceptance. “If my last record was called The Project, this one could be called the process.” From the shock-to-the-heart felt in the groovy opening track “Hits me” to the sing-along-at-the-top-of-your-lungs acceptance of the closing track “ReadY to love,” Ell invites you to experience her journey.Produced by the legendary Dann Huff, heart theory maintains a sonic depth and auditory aura while still conveying the emotional rawness and storytelling that highlights Ell's growth since her debut album on Stoney Creek Records, The Project, which debuted at No. 1 on the Country Album Sales Chart and was named Billboard's “Best Country Album of 2017.” That album spawned her first Top 20 hit in the US, as well as her first No.1 on the Canadian Country radio charts – making her the first female artist to top that chart in 10 years. Most recently, she scored her first No. 1 with “What Happens in a Small Town,” her duet with Brantley Gilbert – another milestone moment making her the first Canadian artist to hit No. 1 in the US since Emerson Drive's “Moments” in 2007, and the first Canadian woman to reach the top of the charts since Terri Clark with “I Just Wanna Be Mad” in 2003.Over the past 3 years, Ell has shared the stage with some of the biggest acts in the world touring with Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, and Sugarland.  She has more than held her own in moments alongside such artists as Mellissa Etheridge, Billy Ray Cyrus, Robert Randolph, Billy Gibbons and other legends. She has made multiple appearances on the CMA Awards stage including playing with Carrie Underwood and performing with distinguished country group, Little Big Town, alongside other powerhouse female artists in one the biggest moments of the 2019 CMA Awards where she was also nominated for Musical Event of the Year. Ell's nominations do not stop there, she is a 2x 2020 ACM nominee for New Female Artist of the Year and Music Event of the Year.Concurrently though, Ell was grappling with the real-life complexities that come with growing up, even as a rising star. “The past couple of years, I've been through a lot,” she says. “A public break-up took me through all of the stages of heartbreak, I turned 30, I had a health scare and countless other hurdles. And I came out the other side as a full human. There are moments when life just smacks you in the face and you need to do the work of figuring out what that means, how it changed you, and how to take full control of your life.”Ell points to several of the new songs as examples of her evolution and sense of maturity. “There's a song called ‘make you' that's about a trauma that happened to me as a little girl, something I have never publicly talked about,” she says. “Holding pieces of our story back means missing out on the opportunity to feel inspired, changed, drawn to make a difference. I got into this business to change people, to make them feel something. So, it was important to me to get really honest and say that all of us have skeletons in the closet, but those things make us who we are.”With a chorus and guitar lines that soar “wAnt me back” is glowing with self-appreciation and tints of anger. “I love watching people step into their own power,” says Ell. “It is one of the most inspiring moments to watch someone finally see their full potential.” With this sentiment, Ell co-wrote this mid-tempo track with hit-maker Kane Brown along with Matt McGinn and Lindsay Rimes. Preaching confidence and that there is no other you, Ell hopes to inspire others to free themselves of the shackles that no longer serve them well.Lauded by Forbes magazine as “one of the most exciting and talented young artists in Country music,” the Calgary native learned to play guitar while traveling with her father to Country-Bluegrass camps as a young girl. Ell was championed by Randy Bachman (of Bachman Turner Overdrive and The Guess Who), who discovered her at the age of 13, and was soon touring alongside the likes of Luke Bryan and Buddy Guy.While Ell has earned special recognition for her blistering guitar playing, she notes that she doesn't want to be defined by any one dimension of her work. She says, “I don't want to be known as just a guitar player. My favorite artists, like John Mayer and Keith Urban, are great players, but that's not the only thing you think of. I write, sing, produce and think all the pieces of the puzzle come together to make an artist's story unique, to paint the full picture. Yes, this is a huge guitar record, but that's not what I want be the first thing that rings the bell when you listen.”A major part of Ell's success has come from her dedicated exposure to an international audience. She has performed on her own tour, at the C2C Festival, opening tours for stars in their home territories, and as part of the CMA's “Introducing Nashville” series in Europe and Asia (at one point playing in eight different countries in 32 days).“I've loved doing so much international travel.” she says. “I always wanted to build my career beyond the borders of North America, so it's incredible to go to New Zealand, Japan, Germany, places where they're trying to figure out what I'm saying, but they're so into it. They listen to the catalog, learn the songs, come to the show ready for the experience—they're the perfect audience, they care so much.”As Lindsay Ell gears up for a new album and continues to tour around the globe, she embraces this next chapter of her career. “Artists are always scared of the infamous sophomore album,” she says, “but I'm so excited. I've done the work, I've found the right team, and I'm coming at it from a place of more strength and more honesty. I'm ready to do this, so bring it on.”Keep up will all Lindsay Ell on her socials:Instagram Facebook | Twitter | TikTok | YouTube

This episode is very personal, June 9, 2009 my brother in law Brian Cardall was killed by police due to mental illness.  Today June 9, 2022 I share his story on the podcast. My father in law Duane Cardall is my guest and shares more about Brian and his life, about his illness and details about his death.  Duane also shares the stark contrast in care he observed between two sons.  Duane's oldest son Paul was born with a severe congenital heart defect and has had multiple complex open heart surgeries and has always had world class care.  Brian started to show symptoms of severe mental illness in college and it was so difficult to find even adequate care for him when he was in crisis.  He was often held at the hospital for 48-72 hours, given medication and wished good luck.   The inadequacy of the mental health care system is something that absolutely should be addressed and fixed.   The stigma surrounding mental illness is still so prevalent and speaking up and speaking out about is one way to lessen the stigma and let people know they aren't alone.   Read more about Brian's death

Today I welcome my guest David Cardall...who is also my kids dad and my husband.  He wanted to come share his long journey to embracing gentle/connection based parenting. For a long time how we parented was a huge piece of conflict in our marriage as our kids began to struggle with mental health and defiance.  He thought therapy was hokey, he believed connection based/relationship first parents were pushovers.  He thought tough love and punishments were the answer.   I couldn't change him, as much as I tried.  I wanted to control him and well that shockingly didn't work out very well. We didn't trust each other, we weren't united and it was so difficult.   It was finally in a family therapy session that the therapist told us we needed to be united and we sat down and decided what we valued in our family, what our values were in parenting and what practices supported those values. That was the game changer, what did we value? We wanted the same things for our kids.  We wanted them to feel loved and valued and to have a close relationship with them.  Dave realized he wasn't the safe parent who they came to with struggles and he wanted to be that person.  I am so incredibly proud of him for the humility it took to change.  That he has put in the work with his own triggers so he can be the calm in the storm.  I watch our kids when they are mad or sad or angry go to him now, often over me and I am so thankful. We don't parent the same way even still.  We do things differently and that is needed for sure for our kids.  We don't have to be the same to be united in what we value.  There is a phrase, "we aren't on the same page" I hear often when I work with parents.  Often people use it to mean their spouse doesn't do things how they do or they don't like how their spouse parents.  Being on the same page doesn't mean you are the same, but it can mean you value the same things and make decisions together how that looks in your home.

Are you a safe place for you kids to land? Do they know you have their back?  Do they know you are on their team?  If they know they are loved and safe with you they will open up more.  Parenting is about a relationship, not a behavior monitor. You have the power NOW to choose how you will respond in different situations.  Decide now what your family values are and make these decisions based on your values.  Our personal family values are that the relationship matters the most and so our decisions are based on love, compassion, curiosity and connection. When your child is struggling in school or gets in trouble with the law or is looking at pornography...they need support.  They need to know you have their back. Parenting in this way isn't easy, it isn't being a pushover, it isn't allowing our kids to get away with things.  It's about a deeply connected relationship.  Its about communication and compromise, it's about decisions being driven by fierce love.  Be the person your child deeply needs.  what to do and say if your child comes out to you A great resource for parents of LGBTQ kids

On the 38th episode of All Heart with Paul Cardall, former atheist and cold case expert Jay Warner Wallace shares his experience as a homicide detective investigating the evidence for Jesus of Nazareth outside of the Bible and inside the text of the Bible. Jim, a popular Christian who uses forensic apologetics believes there are many different versions of the victim (Jesus). He explains how he was able to use his expertise to unveil the true Jesus reported in the Bible and historians. Using a term he coined as "cold case christianity" Jim discusses how to get results long after witnesses are gone. Having a large Mormon family, Jim began investigating Mormonism as part of his journey from being an atheist to a believing Christian who would later have a christian worldview. Using his experience he discovered Mormon founder Joseph Smith was not a prophet and The Book of Mormon does not meet the forensic test of truth. All Heart host Paul, a former Mormon, also with a Christian worldview shares his personal insight into learning the differences in the doctrine of grace. Jay reveals why the doctrine of grace is important in knowing the victim that was crucified and said to come back to life. Jesus spent 40 days with disciples teaching them the doctrine they needed to know to establish the Lord's church.  GUEST: J. Commons Church founding member Pastor Jeremy Duncan was not raised in a very religious home. However, as a young adult, Christianity gradually became the center of his life. A friends invitation to attend a church youth group led an introduction to his future wife and the pursuit of a bachelor's degree from Eastern Bible College. A Master's in Theology from Ambrose University followed as well as a decade of service as an associate pastor at Westside King's Church. During his time there, he began to ask bigger questions with intellectual honesty, spiritual passion and with Jesus as the center of his life. Paul and Jeremy discuss today's challenges with biblical translation and a modern understanding of how to interpret the Bible with intellectual honesty. Is the word "homosexual" the correct use of St. Paul's Greek word "Arsenokoitai" in 20th century translations? What about traditions and rituals? How do they help Christians in today's complex world? Finally, Paul asks Jeremy how he talks with agnostics and atheists who have disassociated themselves from religion and a belief in God. Background, Experience, EducationJeremy discusses his background growing up in a quasi-religious family. Church attendance consisted of holidays and seasons where his family would attend a Pentecostal denomination regularly. In high school, a friend invited him to a church youth group where he made friends and met his future wife. Christianity slowly became the center of his life. The church pastor encouraged Jeremy to go to Bible college for a bachelor's degree. He was hired at a church in Toronto where his mind began to expand outside of his environment. Jeremy admits he didn't have expansive experience with church culture since his was limited to the Pentecostal denomination, Bible college and a church in Toronto. He left church ministry and started his own business for several years until a church in Calgary offered him a job. He began to do things a little differently and started asking bigger questions. He wrestled with what it means to be a pastor. He was at the church in Calgary for 10 years while completing his master's. He enjoyed leading and was able to try some different things and shape Christian communities. After all his church experience, he was able to plant Commons Church in 2014. Commons offers Christians a new way to discuss the Gospel with intellectual honesty, acknowledgement of the complexities of biblical translation and even larger biblical issues. Commons is near a university. Its congregation is full of educated people who believe faith is important and who want to bring their education and reason into their spirituality. Homosexuality and Biblical Translation: Is it correct?Paul and Jeremy discuss the Bible as the “infallible Word of God” and his interpretation of what that means. Paul asks about the 1946 RSV Bible translation that introduced the English word “homosexual” to the 20th century Christianity for St. Paul's word “aresinacoitos.” St. Paul used the word to describe a sexual practice in 1st century Greco-Roman culture. For pastors and scholars like Jeremy, the word “homosexual” is considered an incorrect use of the word and what St. Paul was teaching. They discuss homosexuality from a 1st century perspective and what Jeremy believes St. Paul meant when describing non-consensual, predatory, unhealthy relationships vs. monogamous, covenant, healthy sexual relationships uncommon in the world St. Paul was living in. Jeremy believes when it comes to translation “there always has to be this open-handed humbleness with the Bible to say God is speaking to me through this but there will always be this level of miscommunication and uncertainty, but what is going to come through is the grace, compassion, and love Jesus is teaching us to embody."Paul asks Jeremy if he believes in a closed or open canon of scripture. They discuss what this mean, the different books and formulations of scripture within the Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant Bibles. Also, should the canon be open to include new books to help us have a full, flourishing life here on earth. In other words, Jeremy answers the question do we need need additional scripture to help mankind meet the full measure of their creation? Yes, it's closed but because we are constantly learning new things about ourselves with science, psychology, sexuality and these things have to be incorporated into our story. We are absorbing the canon so well that it becomes the water that we breathe in. This can help us make new judgement calls and face new challenges appropriately with guidance from the Holy Spirit. Jeremy argues that complex issues not addressed in the Bible, such as euthanasia or homosexuality, can be understood by being so deeply immersed in the story of God that Christians can wrestle and find the appropriate response.SIDE NOTE: The first time the word “homosexual” appeared in any bible was in the Revised Standard Version (RSV) published in February 11, 1946. In the RSV's translation of 1 Corinthians 6:9, the word “homosexual” was used in lieu of the Greek words “malakoi” and “arsenokoitai.” Researchers agree today these words translate loosely to “effeminacy,” and “pervert,” or “sexual pervert.” The decision to use the word “homosexual” instead of the accurate translations was voted on by the RSV committee. Traditions & Rituals: Are they good?Paul asks Jeremy his thoughts on religious traditions, rituals, the complexity of starting a Church with good intentions but then having to implement policies and rules that can overshadow what the founders initially intended. Jeremy explains the purpose of traditions and rituals. He discusses how they are powerful tools to shape our relationships with God and one another. He says “if you come from a certain religious tradition and it's meaningful for you, celebrate that, embrace that and hold onto it tightly but ask yourself how is it shaping me? Is it making me a kind person or is it turning me into a person who views things only my way. Jeremy says at Commons they believing in being 1) Intellectually honest 2) Spiritually passionate 3) Jesus at the center. Overall, we need to appreciate all the streams of Christianity. Talking with the agnostic and atheist who have disassociated themselves from religion and even belief in God.  Paul asked Jeremy the best way to communicate with those who no longer believe in God. Jeremy says Jesus is the closest we'll ever come to seeing divine love in our human story. All truth is God's truth. Whenever we encounter truth, then this is the same divinity we see in Jesus. Science is an expression of the same truth we see in Jesus. Every time there is generosity, selfless giving and love, regardless of the religious paradigm, that is an expression of Jesus. Though other religions partake in these expressions of love, Jeremy believes Jesus is the core and that Christianity is the fullest expression of this divinity. The more calm, patient and peaceful he is about converting them to his way of thinking then the more open people are to having real conversations about his convictions. Overtime, Jeremy has witnessed countless agnostics and atheists find a stream of Christianity that gives them a clear understanding of themselves and the universe. Jeremy discusses what it means to be born again. He compares this to God removing our narrow view of the world and helping us relearn everything with our eyes wide open. Jeremy Duncan, is the Lead Pastor M.A B/TS, Commons Church COMMONS CHURCH https://www.commons.church/jeremyBLOG: https://www.jeremyduncan.caLINKEDIN: https://www.linkedin.com/in/duncanjeremy/FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/realjeremyduncan-------------------------ABOUT THE HOST PAUL CARDALLSteinway & Sons considers Paul Cardall one of today's most prolific pianists. Congenital Heart Disease or CHD is the number one leading cause of infant related death and it wasn't that long ago when the cardiovascular community didn't have enough “congenital heart disease” specialists working with adult survivors of CHD. Today, with help from the Adult Congenital Heart Disease Association (ACHA) the cardiovascular community has helped educate cardiologists on these abnormalities of the human heart and build a network of specialists throughout the world. I spoke with ACHA accreditation manager Misty Sharpe, also a CHD patient and nurse at Vanderbilt, about what ACHA is doing to connect adult patients, encourage and educate families, as well as work closely with the medical community to ensure families are aware of CHD specialists in their area or where the closest clinic is to their coordinates. As a survivor of CHD, Misty and I discuss the challenges we experienced when we became adults and had outgrown the children's hospital's age limit. Discover what happened and how we resolved that problem.ABOUT MISTY SHARPE"As the Accreditation Program Manager for the Adult Congenital Heart Association (ACHA), I manage all aspects of the organization's national Accreditation Program for adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) centers. With a focus on patient-centered care, my role assists and guides programs through the process to ensure each meet a rigorous set of standards comprised of one hundred individual criteria across twenty categories related to staffing, policies and ancillary services. In 2020, the ability to adapt and pivot was critical for non-profit organizations and as ACHA's flagship program, it was necessary that the ACHD Accreditation Program do the same. I transitioned all site visits from an in-person format to completely virtual using the Zoom platform and successfully continued to move over ten programs through the process. During my career with ACHA, I have also participated in and led several initiatives related to volunteer recruitment, support programming improvement, community outreach and fundraising. I have collaborated on a variety of projects across various departments and currently serve on the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Standing Committee. My background and education in both nursing and communications has been beneficial in providing opportunities to lend my knowledge and experience to meaningful discussions, projects and initiatives throughout the organization." -Misty Sharpe  (Reference: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mistyksharpe/)All Heart with Paul Cardall is sponsored by doTERRA, whose products are designed to offer hope and healing. Please join me as Neon Trees front man Tyler Glenn and award-winning pianist and composer Paul Cardall return to Mormon Stories Podcast to premiere a new music video: "I Know It Hurts", from Paul Cardall's memoir-style album "The Broken Miracle." We would welcome your questions for Tyler and Paul during this live Q&A.   “I Know It Hurts” was co-written by Cardall and Glenn after they met several years ago at the famed LOVELOUD Festival, where they were both performing. Glenn is co-founder of the festival, alongside Imagine Dragon’s Dan Reynolds.   “Before writing this song, Tyler and I discussed at length the challenges we all feel that result from trauma,” Cardall explains. “In my case, though my heart transplant was a beautifully orchestrated miracle, it was still the grand finale to a lot of years of medical trauma. It triggered anxiety and depression. For everyone who is suffering, not necessarily physically, but because they are different or feel like an outsider, I want to say to them, ‘I know it hurts.’ This song acknowledges that you are not alone. This song validates our feelings in a way that says, ‘keep going, keep fighting, we understand.’”   Glenn adds,   “I wanted the lyric and performance of this song to convey a sense of understanding how it feels to get through a trauma or heartache. So much of life for many is the search for a sense of belonging, a sense of self-worth. This song feels more like an acknowledgement of that, and I hope it brings a feeling of being seen and comforted. I hope those in pain from whatever it may be, feel a sense of validation.”   The video, directed by Rob Norbutt, is in stark black and white, the simplicity of which amplifies the power of the message:   You’ve been floating out in space You just wanted to believe There were tears upon your face And your body felt no ease Dear God is there not more Cuz it’s cold on the church floor   Cardall’s new album is more than a colorful collection of 19 emotionally-charged songs. The Broken Miracle is a musical memoir, a personal manifesto that celebrates a life filled with nearly unfathomable tragedy and heady triumph. An enthusiastic collaborator, Cardall welcomes an all-star cast of creative partners on The Broken Miracle. The title track was penned with Christian music veteran Matt Hammitt and Carter Forge, and is sung by Hammitt. “Broken Machine” features singer/songwriter Rachael Yamagata’s vocals on the tune Cardall co-wrote with Yamagata and Trevor Price. In addition to Glenn, the project also includes appearances by Ty Herndon, J. Daniel, and Akelee; while pop star David Archuleta sings the power-ballad “My Heart Beats for You.” His collaboration with Thompson Square on “All I See is Snow” was declared “ the Christmas song of the pandemic.”   Cardall’s evolution as an artist continues with the release of The Broken Miracle, a title inspired by his true-to-life story of being born with a congenital heart defect, which nearly took his life numerous times. Cardall received a heart transplant 10 years ago and continues to thrive as a father, husband, and artist. The Broken Miracle will also be released as a biographical fiction novel written by J.D. Netto. The book will be released February 2.

Paul Cardall battled long odds from birth, eventually triumphing over a serious heart disability to earn distinction as an outstanding composer and pianist. In 1997 he first won widespread notice by setting author Richard Paul Evans’ No. 1 NY Times best-seller The Christmas Box to music. Cardall’s achievements range from releasing 11 chart-topping albums, winning the Gospel Music Association Dove Award for Instrumental Album of the Year, collaborating with Grammy-winning singer CeCe Winans, Audrey Assad, The Piano Guys among other distinguished artists. With over 2 billion streams, Cardall is one of the most listened to Steinway & Sons sponsored artist in music business. His entrepreneurial activities include founding and directing the Stone Angel Music label and recording studio, promoting medical research and providing scholarships for congenital heart disease through his foundation. Cardall’s music has included works for piano, vocal, band and orchestral settings. On his latest album, Peaceful Piano, he returns to his solo performance roots while exploring complete real-time improvisation for the first time. Paul's Mormon story includes: Growing up in Salt Lake City, Utah, learning to "fit in" as a child and youth with a heart condition. Serving an LDS mission, and marrying in an LDS temple. Paul's rise to celebrity as a piano performer - first in Salt Lake City, then joining the LDS Church speaking/inspiration circuit, and ultimately becoming a world-renowned musician, with hundreds of millions of Spotify downloads. Paul's receipt of a human heart transplant, and his recovery. Paul's struggles to maintain a healthy/happy marriage, ultimately leading to his disfellowshipment from the LDS Church and a shaming public divorce. Paul's remarriage to a non-LDS woman, and his invitation to co-author a Mormon hymn with LDS Church apostle David A. Bednar called "One by One." Paul's loss of testimony in the LDS Church, and his discovery of a new faith in traditional, non-denominational Christianity. Cardall’s story is continuing to evolve as an artist, author and humanitarian. His upcoming album The Broken Miracle, which will be available for pre-order this December, was inspired by J.D. Netto’s biographical fictional novel, based on real events in the artists life from being born with only half a heart, enduring a series of surgeries, which culminated in a heart transplant. While waiting for a donor heart, the pianist’s brother was tragically killed. The album will feature several award-winning guests including David Archuleta, Ty Herndon, Thompson Square, Neon Tress’ Tyler Glenn and more. We hope you enjoy this episode!  Paul is a fantastic human.

It’s more important now than it has ever been before to remember that we are all created equally and that God loves us all just the same. I hope this song can be a beacon of hope to anyone who’s feeling lost, overwhelmed, or suffering in any way,” said Herndon.“To sing with Ty Herndon was a dream. But to sing a song with lyrics that we both believe was so special. I hope as you listen to the song you hear the words and they speak to your heart,” said Chenoweth.“Ever since receiving a donor heart, it’s been my life’s work to use music to help heal the hearts of others, which is why I’m excited to join with my friends Ty Herndon and Kristin Chenoweth in echoing an important message through this song — a truth that there are no orphans of God. Everyone is welcome to my table and as a Christian, I believe to suggest otherwise undervalues God’s sacrifice,” said Cardall.Orphans of God was written by Joel Lindsey and Twila LaBar and originally recorded by contemporary Christian group Avalon. Former Avalon band members Melissa Greene and Michael Passons provide backing vocals on the updated track.“When we were writing Orphans of God, we talked about the fact that many experience the painful sting of rejection and feel as if they don’t belong,” said LaBar.“To say that there are no orphans of God is our way pf saying that everyone is loved, seen, and remembered,” said Lindsey.Orphans of God will lead the track list for Herndon’s upcoming Christmas Album, entitled Regifted. In addition to the new single, the album features a curated selection of Herndon’s favorite tracks from his holiday catalogue.“It’s been a tough year for so many of us, and I wanted to give my fans a little something special to cheer up this season,” said Herndon, who is currently in the studio preparing an album of all new material for a 2021 release, his first since 2016’s House On Fire.We want to hear from you! As you work on your own self respect, you can drive your growth with more compassion. Cheryl Cardall is a wife and mother of 5 on a mission to strengthen families, by strengthening mothers. I first interviewed Cheryl Cardall in episode 23 about overcoming weakness and using humor in motherhood. Cheryl is back and we are diving in to talk about what Cheryl has learned in 20 years of motherhood. You’ll also hear why Cheryl believes you should be the expert and advocate for your child. Cheryl talks about a recent moment when she realized she was doing better as a mom than she thought she was. She shares how motherhood refines us and makes us better. Cheryl believes you can do more than just survive in motherhood. You can thrive. We also have a discussion about why a mother’s worth isn’t determined by what her kids do. Cheryl has learned to be good with herself no matter what her kids do. “Their behavior has no reflection on me.” Cheryl also discusses her recent experiences learning how to be an expert and advocate for one of her children struggling with mental health issues. Recently, both Cheryl and her husband were prompted to get a dog for their family. She talks about how they trusted this prompting and how having a dog has been a huge blessing for their whole family. Her story illustrates so well that God cares about everything in our lives and why you can trust and act on the promptings you get. Cheryl has seen and felt God the most when she has felt she isn’t enough. She discusses how a common answer from God for her has been to “Love them through it.” “Motherhood is the perfect way to learn about the atonement. We are not enough on our own but when we use God and our Savior as our partner, somehow we are.”   Show Notes Here is the quote Cheryl shared by Dr. Christina Hibbert: “The fruit of motherhood isn’t how your kids turn out. It’s how you turn out.” See the Instagram post by @reflectionsofchrist about the parenting advice to repent fast and frequently I mentioned in the episode. (I think I said it was about forgiveness in the episode, but it’s about repentance.) This is the quote Cheryl shared by Janet Lansbury: “It can be really tough to remember how emotionally immature children are because they can be so impressively intelligent, capable, and aware. When they seem deliberately bratty or downright mean, we’ll need to remind ourselves: These are tiny people with incredibly low impulse control who are very easily overwhelmed. In the moment, it may feel like our kids are out to get us, but it is actually that their impulses have gotten the better of them.” Books Cheryl recommends: The Whole Brain Child by Dr. Dan Siegel The Teenage Brain: A Neuroscientist’s Survival Guide to Raising Adolescents and Young Adults by Frances E. What if we changed the way we looked at doubts and times where we face great spiritual darkness?  What if we decided instead that this WAS what faith is supposed to look like: a series of spiritual growing pains? Paul Cardall faced a deep spiritual crisis after surviving a heart transplant.  Instead of joy, he felt consumed by trying to live up to the great blessing that it was to live.  Everything in his life fell a part, and he couldn't understand why God had let him live and not the friends and children with the same congenital heart problems he had. Paul freely shares what faith looks like for him, how he's navigated his own series of darkness and questions, and what we can individually do to move through our own times of doubt and GROW! International music artist Paul Cardall, with roots in Utah, was listening to a sermon in a church in Tennessee where Alvin Love III said, "Maybe the reason people don't SEEK God is because they don't believe they're VALUABLE to God." Cardall, already in the middle of producing a Christmas album, put his current project on hold and commenced gathering a team of artists focused on one purpose: create an album of songs with arrangements and lyrics designed to increase self-worth and combat anxiety and depression.
