On the timeline this week, I was DESTROYED Spencer Pratt and EVISCERATED by Christopher Rufo. This implicates by response (above) to Spencer Pratt's recent 9 minute video describing what happened in his election loss (below): Several people have asked me to address this question, and what I meant by my comments, so I expand in the video above. My position is basically that Spencer is being turned into the character from the Daniel Kaluuya character in the all-time great Black Mirror episode Fifteen Million Merits. He's a slave who competes in a American Idol type competition, but it so fed up with him oppression that he threatens to slit his throat on stage. His protest is turned into its own media property, in which the regime capitalizes on his simulated and controlled voicing of grievances. This is a public episode. Jack LaRoche and Trey Grace spent Fourth of July weekend inside Intercessors for America's “Rededicate America” event at the Museum of the Bible, and they tell Travis, Liv, and Jake all about it. Intercessors for America (IFA) describes its own organizing model as “News. Prayer. Action.” In practice, it involves prophecy about the destiny of the United States, political prayer, and “spiritual warfare.” At the sold-out two-day gathering, Jack and Trey encounter “prophetic elder” Dutch Sheets, spiritual warrior Cindy Jacobs, one-man performer Rich Swingle, and American Idol finalist Danny Gokey. What does the event reveal about the current state of Christian dominionism, anti-CRT school board panic, anti-Sharia politics, covenant theology, vaccine weirdness, and the New Apostolic Reformation-adjacent prophetic scene? It turns out that self-described modern prophets are increasingly anxious about Trump's rapid aging and the lack of young people in their movement. What do you do when your world falls apart… but life keeps moving forward anyway? In this deeply personal and hope-filled conversation, Dr. Zach Clinton sits down with Grammy-nominated and Dove Award–winning artist Danny Gokey to talk about grief, resilience, faith, redemption, and the healing power of hope. From navigating the heartbreaking loss of his first wife just weeks before appearing on American Idol, to becoming one of Christian music’s most impactful voices, Danny shares how God met him in the middle of pain and slowly rebuilt his heart, purpose, and future. Together, they unpack what it looks like to trust God when life doesn’t make sense, how suffering can deepen our faith instead of destroying it, the purpose behind songs like Tell Your Heart to Beat Again and Haven’t Seen It Yet, and the powerful moments Danny is witnessing on the Hope Nights Tour across America. They also dive into the important topic of scrupulosity, what can happen when OCD and faith collide, and how fear, shame, perfectionism, and religious anxiety can distort our understanding of God’s character, grace, and love. If you’ve ever wrestled with intrusive thoughts, condemnation, grief, disappointment, heartbreak, or uncertainty, this episode is a reminder that God is still writing your story, and sometimes the very thing that nearly broke you becomes the platform through which He brings hope, healing, freedom, and encouragement to others. Jennifer Hudson shocked her hometown of Chicago when she was eliminated from American Idol in 2004, only to surpass everyone’s expectations when she later raked in awards and rave reviews for her role in Dreamgirls. Yet grief washed over Chicago again when her mother and brother were found slain in their Englewood home, and the smallest member of the Hudson family was declared missing. Their tragic story begins with betrayal and ends with a heartbreak so severe, only Jennifer’s long-standing faith could put it back together. Kris Allen won American Idol in 2009 and spent the next fifteen years doing the opposite of what that's supposed to look like. He walked away from his major label deal, started his own independent label DogBear Records, and took eight years between albums to make sure the next one was actually worth putting out.In this conversation, recorded here in Nashville, Kris talks about what the "gap years" between Letting You In and Pole Vaulter were really about — the family decisions, the creative struggle, the COVID slowdown that made him finally sit still long enough to write something real. We get into the "Heartless" moment on American Idol, what it felt like to know he had a chance at winning, and why he still considers "Live Like We're Dying" something like a karaoke song he happens to own. Kris also opens up about the addiction themes woven into Pole Vaulter, why he guards his private life more carefully than almost anything else, and what he's building next.Kris Allen is an American Idol winner, independent artist, and Nashville-based musician. The Jay Franze Show: Your backstage pass to the entertainment industry

Three hours. That's the kind of clock Nashville can put on a recording session, and it forces you to learn fast or get left behind. We sit down with country music recording artist Stephen Quinn to unpack what it really felt like to walk into a Nashville studio for the first time to cut “Get It Girl” with seasoned session musicians and a producer who actually cared about getting it right. If you've ever wondered how professionals can hear a song once, chart it, and deliver a finished track at speed, this conversation puts you in the room.We also dig into the role that rarely gets enough credit: the vocal coach. Stephen explains why he brings Velvet, his longtime coach and co-writer, into high-stakes sessions, how she balances technical corrections with creative choices, and why having the right ears in the room can make your vocals stronger and the entire recording process smoother. From work tapes recorded on iPhone voice memos to “living with the lyrics” before committing to production, we get specific about songwriting habits that help independent artists finish better songs. Then the story opens up. Stephen walks us through his American Idol journey, from pre-dawn cattle-call auditions to Hollywood Week at the Dolby Theater, including the nerves, the friendships, and the performance moments that stick. We talk about his patriotic song “Stand Up,” what “country” means as a way of life, and why audiences stand up when the message hits. Finally, he shares what it's like to sing the national anthem at a Jacksonville Jaguars playoff game, why he keeps it traditional, and how local relationships helped land a Country Fest slot opening for Ashley Cook.If you enjoy honest artist conversations about Nashville recording, country songwriting, music video production, American Idol, and performing live, subscribe, share this with a friend, and leave a review so more listeners can find the show.Send us Fan MailSupport the showLinksJay Franze: https://jayfranze.com/JFS Countdowns/Playlists: https://jayfranze.com/playlists/ContactContact: https://jayfranze.com/contact/SocialsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/jayfranzeYouTube: https://youtube.com/@jayfranzeEverywhere: @jayfranzeServicesServices: https://jayfranze.com/services/BooksBooks: https://jayfranze.com/books/MerchandiseMerchandise: https://jayfranze.com/merchandise/SupportSupport: https://jayfranze.com/support/Sponsor the Show: https://jayfranze.com/sponsor/Shout OutsHigh Mountain Breezes Music: https://highmountainbreezesmusic.com/VR Knives: https://www.facebook.com/VRKnives

Behind American Idol (feat. Trent Harmon)

This week, Savannah sits down with American Idol winner Trent Harmon for one of the most candid conversations he's ever had publicly. After winning the final season of American Idol on Fox in 2016, Trent thought he was stepping into the opportunity of a lifetime. Instead, he found himself navigating broken promises, unanswered questions, legal battles, and a music career that looked very different from what he had been led to believe. For the first time, Trent opens up about the fallout that followed his win, why he's spent nearly a decade staying quiet, and what finally made him ready to tell his story. But this conversation goes far beyond contracts and career setbacks. Trent shares how those experiences impacted his mental health, his relationships, and his faith. He talks about nearly walking away from music altogether, finding purpose through worship, becoming a husband and father, and why success looks completely different to him today than it did when he stood on the Idol stage. It's a conversation about disappointment, resilience, accountability, faith, and discovering that sometimes the life you were meant to build looks nothing like the one you originally planned.Thank you to our sponsors for supporting our show!- Quince: Step into the holiday season with layers made to feel good, look polished, and last—with Quince. In today's episode, I sit down with entrepreneur and marketing strategist Kim Walsh Phillips alongside singer, actor, and American Idol breakout Justin Guarini to talk about the real difference between fame, celebrity, and authority in today's business world. We break down how visibility creates opportunity, why authenticity only works when it's consistent, and how the right relationships open doors that applications and cold pitches never will. We also discuss the dangers of chasing attention without delivering value, how social media rewards personality as much as expertise, and why protecting your reputation matters more than quick money. Along the way, we share lessons on building communities, filtering out the wrong people, and creating experiences that people genuinely connect with.

Point Fest is almost here, and the crew is fully locked into concert-season chaos. The gang talks meet-and-greets, side stages, local bands, and the Road to Point Fest competition — including an accidental on-air mix-up that somehow made things even more Rizz Show-y. Trevor May & The Nomads get some love, Sideshow gets their rightful victory lap, and everyone agrees Highland, Illinois may secretly be manufacturing musicians in a lab somewhere. Then things take a surprisingly philosophical turn when the show debates whether adults are actually cooler now than they were in high school. What starts as a simple question becomes a full therapy session involving acne glow-ups, fake confidence, bus-seat politics, floating between social groups, and why being a jerk in high school somehow counted as “cool.” Rafe drops accidental wisdom, Lern gets deep about authenticity, and King Scott proudly explains that he still doesn't get invited to parties… but now at least he hears about them. Growth. Beautiful growth. The conversation somehow escalates into midlife-crisis accusations after truck purchases, homeowner flexes, and dangling accessories become evidence in the court of Cool Dad Law. Which honestly makes this the exact kind of daily podcast people come here for: emotionally unstable grown adults trying to justify their hobbies while roasting each other into dust. That's friendship, baby.In Crap on Celebrities, the gang covers Tool reportedly being approached before U2 for the Las Vegas Sphere, celebrity “Game of Thrones politics,” and why Tool fans may need to start saving money immediately. There's also Amazon TV announcements, Fallout casting news, Reacher updates, and an absolutely brutal listen to Vince Neil performing on American Idol alongside Carrie Underwood. Nobody survives that audio clip emotionally. Nobody. The crew also dives into celebrity jail history including Martha Stewart, Robert Downey Jr., Tim Allen, Lindsay Lohan, Khloe Kardashian, Wesley Snipes, Mark Wahlberg, and Matthew McConaughey's legendary naked bongos incident. Which somehow becomes one of the most relatable celebrity stories discussed all morning. That sentence alone should tell you exactly what kind of daily podcast this is.And because this show refuses to stay on topic for more than six seconds, the episode closes with an unexpected Steve Winwood appreciation session complete with singalongs, nostalgia, and the now-unforgettable lyric: “Bake me a pie of love.” Sorry in advance for that getting stuck in your head forever. If you love music news, hilarious fails, celebrity chaos, sarcastic humor, St. Louis energy, and a daily podcast that sounds like your funniest friends trapped in a group chat with microphones, welcome home.Follow The Rizzuto Show → https://linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → https://1057thepoint.com/RizzShowSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
