Long before he became famous as the sharp-tongued TV personality who launched the careers of pop stars, Simon Cowell was a rebellious teenager who dropped out of school and started his career in the mailroom at EMI. After a failed business left him nearly bankrupt, he found success by zigging where others zagged—initially by selling hit records based on TV shows like Power Rangers and WrestleMania. Eventually Simon got behind the TV camera himself, where his brutally honest feedback on shows like American Idol and The X Factor made him a household name. Today, through his company Syco Entertainment, Simon continues to discover new talent. His latest challenge: an upcoming Netflix show where he'll try to build a boy band from scratch. This episode was produced by Josh Lash, and edited by Neva Grant, with research by Iman Maani. Chad sits down with Will Moseley, Georgia native and runner-up from American Idol Season 22, for a conversation that dives into real country music grit. Will didn't grow up chasing fame; he dreamt of being a football player. After sustaining a few substantial injuries, he left football after college, picked up a guitar, and discovered something deeper in writing songs. When he played his song “Gone for Good,” he stunned the American Idol judges and won the hearts of Americans instantly. He earned a golden ticket to Hollywood, and stuck with it all the way to the finale—earning major praise from Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie. Chad and Will touch on what it's like to go from Hazlehurst fields to national stages, to write songs that feel honest, and what it takes to make it these days. If you've heard “Everything But Me” or “It's You,” this one gives you the man behind those songs. If Will's new to your playlist, you're still about to feel why his sound is turning heads, and you need to check him out! As expected from our Demerbox Artist of the Month Series, this one is real; Real stories, real voice, real country.

Fast forward another year, and he's gaining tens of millions of streams, is #1 on Billboard's Emerging Artist Chart, and is selling out his first headlining tour in just a few hours.  Max talks to me about how he realized the time was right for him to leave home — and his brother — to pursue his dreams,. And we talk about how Brock in turn, was given strength and inspiration by Max's determination and ultimately, his success. It's a truly heartwarming story of personal triumph for both brothers.

Suspect in Execution-Style Murders of ‘American Idol' Executive and Husband Had History of Violence and Mental Health Issues The man accused of killing American Idol music supervisor Robin Kaye and her husband, Thomas DeLuca, in their Encino, California, home last week had a history of alarming behavior, multiple arrests, and signs of mental instability, according to court and police records, as well as interviews with neighbors. Raymond Boodarian, 22, was arrested on Tuesday, July 9, and charged with two counts of murder following a violent home invasion that left Kaye, 69, and DeLuca, 70, dead from multiple gunshot wounds to the head. The couple was found in their $4.5 million gated mansion in Encino, a neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles. Boodarian, who lived about 13 minutes away from the victims' home, had long raised red flags in his own community. According to multiple neighbors, he frequently exhibited disturbing behavior, including wandering the streets high on drugs, staring into homes, and bringing known drug users into the area. “He would just sit in front of houses smiling and staring. It was unsettling,” one neighbor told The New York Post. “No one was shocked when we heard he'd been arrested.” Records show that Boodarian had been arrested multiple times between October 2023 and June 2024 on charges including brandishing a deadly weapon, battery, and criminal threats with intent to terrorize, according to Los Angeles Times and state inmate records. However, the charges were dismissed after he was found mentally incompetent to stand trial. Despite these concerns, Boodarian was released several times, including after a six-month stint in custody that ended earlier this year. Authorities believe that on Thursday, July 4, 2025, Boodarian broke into Kaye and DeLuca's residence, which was protected by fencing, gates, and surveillance systems. A neighbor spotted a man jumping the couple's fence around 4:00 p.m. and called police. Officers arrived and conducted an aerial search with a helicopter but found no immediate signs of a break-in. Tragically, investigators now say that by the time police arrived, Kaye and DeLuca were already dead inside the home. Los Angeles Police Department Lt. Guy Golan confirmed that Boodarian remained inside the residence for roughly 30 minutes before the couple arrived home. “A violent struggle ensued between the victims and the suspect, who was already inside. The homeowners were ruthlessly shot multiple times,” Golan said. Fingerprints from Boodarian's prior arrests and surveillance footage tied him to the crime scene, according to TMZ, which also published images of Boodarian being arrested shirtless outside his home, surrounded by officers in tactical gear. Robin Kaye was a highly respected music supervisor who worked on American Idol for at least 15 seasons, helping to shape the sound and success of the long-running reality competition. She also worked on productions including Lip Sync Battle, Miss USA, and Miss Universe. Thomas DeLuca, her husband, was a musician who, like Kaye, was deeply embedded in the entertainment industry. The couple was well-known and beloved in their professional and personal circles. Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? On this episode of The Adam Carolla Show, actor and cultural icon Steve Guttenberg calls in! Adam kicks things off by asking Steve about his experience during the Palisades fires, and the two dive into the state's slow and confusing rebuilding efforts. Adam praises Guttenberg's classic film Diner, and they share stories about their early days breaking into the entertainment business. Steve recalls his time at The Groundlings, where he met the legendary Paul Reubens (Pee-Wee Herman), and they discuss the 40th anniversary of Police Academy. Adam asks Steve what kind of sandwiches his mom used to make for him growing up, then delivers Steve his earth-shattering sandwich rating.Later, Jason “Mayhem” Miller joins Adam for the news. First, they break down a bizarre story out of the Hollywood Hills where a suspected arsonist was caught in the act and stopped by fitness influencers on the Runyon Canyon hiking trail. Firefighters had to deploy both ground and aerial resources to contain the blaze, which had already spread to a quarter-acre. Then, they discuss a shocking double homicide in Encino involving longtime American Idol music supervisor Robin Kaye and her husband Thomas Deluca. Police responded to a welfare check and discovered both victims dead in their home, with signs pointing to a violent home invasion days earlier. A 22-year-old suspect has been arrested and is facing murder charges as the LAPD continues its investigation.Get it on.FOR MORE WITH STEVE GUTTENBERG:MOVIE: Kidnapped by a Killer: The Heather Robinson StoryINSTAGRAM: @steveguttenbergTWITTER: @steve_guttenberFOR MORE WITH JASON “MAYHEM” MILLER: INSTAGRAM & TWITTER: @mayhemmillerWEBSITE: www.mayhemnow.com Thank you for supporting our sponsors:BetOnlineHomes.comForThePeople.com/ADAMoreillyauto.com/ADAMSHOPIFY.COM/carollaPluto.tvLIVE SHOWS: July 17 - Plymouth, WIJuly 19 - Plymouth, WIJuly 20 - Milwaukee, WIAugust 6 - Reno, NVAugust 7 - Portland, ORSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Alex Stone, LAPD say Robin Kaye and her husband were murdered last Thursday by a man who was burglarizing their home, but they weren't found until Monday when a welfare check was called on them because they had not been heard from since Thursday.  Detectives believe Kaye, who was a senior music producer on American Idol, and her husband interrupted the man when they came home, there was a struggle, and he shot and killed them.  The home was not ransacked.  While the 22-year-old in custody allegedly went into the home as a burglar, his ultimate reason for being inside is not clear.  Last week the LAPD was called to the home for a possible burglary but cleared after seeing no signs of a burglary.  It is believed that was the incident when the couple was killed.// National Hot Dog Day and The Foosh aka The Wilderbeast was cut-off from KLAC's Hotdogs! Maurice – or Melissa, as they sometimes introduced themselves – was 22 when they were shot and killed in Phoenix, Arizona. They were just starting to build a name for themselves as a performer, making it to the regional final for American Idol and acting in dozens of local productions, including The Wiz, Westside Story, and Alice in Wonderland. But the curtain fell too soon…According to friends and family, gender identity was fluid for Maurice. They sometimes presented as femme and went by Melissa, as they did the night of the shooting. This led both LGBTQ+ activists and local officials to fear that maybe this was a hate crime.
