Zanny Begg’s filmic narrative presents psycho-philosophical reflections on histories of isolation, contagion and quarantine., whilst Sean Peoples and Léuli Eshrāghi draw on cosmology and the digital archive as an open source for speculative fiction and historical re-interpretation, and as a meeting place and a keeping place for ancestral and other forms of knowledge. From artificial intelligence to sound, animation, video and archives, this conversation will delve into the various possibilities of working in the digital realm. ACCA Open is a new series of contemporary art projects commissioned for the digital realm, initially conceived as a way for ACCA to continue to work with and support contemporary artists during COVID-19-related gallery closures and disruptions. The six newly commissioned projects are by Archie Barry, Zanny Begg, Léuli Eshrāghi, Madeleine Flynn and Tim Humphrey, Amrita Hepi and Sam Lieblich, and Sean Peoples.

For International Trans Day of Visibility, we discuss hypervisibility, and accessibility in the arts! In our first episode for season 5 celebrated Australian artist, Louisa Bufardeci tells us about her background as an artist and how her 2012 LED installation Ethnicities to Nations came to be. Bufardeci discusses how the role of data and coding systems have informed her practice. The artwork Ethnicities to Nations is part of the group exhibition, Unspoken Rule which presents work by Australian and International artists Archie Barry, Liam James, Annika Koops, Roee Rosen and Artur Zmijiewski. Curated by Stevie S. Han, the exhibition re-examines the shifting sense of political and cultural agency that characterised identity politics in the 1990s, and which is finding new urgency with artists working today. Tai Snaith and Archie Barry chat honestly about what role identity plays in Archie’s practice and how they are interested in expressing that identity in a non-visual way. They discuss the beautiful and sometimes frustrating ‘slipperiness’ of language and how cultivating the agency and capacity to connect with an audience can be a truly energising and grounding experience. This week we heard from Archie Barry, a multidisciplinary artist working across video and performance. They spoke about Archie’s upcoming performance artwork Hypnic as part of The Public Body .03, an exhibition taking place at Artspace in Woolloomooloo on Wednesday 26 September. We also spoke to Melbourne based musician, producer, artist and architecture academic Simona Castricum about her upcoming performance at Soft Centre, a one-day festival of radical performance art, sound and visual design happening on Saturday September 22nd at the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre. Plus, we were joined Lisa Rose, the director of Queer Screen Film Fest, and Jain Moralee who is the producer of Nothing to Lose, a documentary by queer artist and fat activist Kelli Jean Drinkwater screening as part of the festival on Friday September 21st.
