'Tina Stefanou: You Can't See Speed' attends to the interconnected and multisensory experience of film beyond vision. The exhibition continues Stefanou's interest in the voice as medium, from spoken sonic soundscapes to vocal techniques such as humming. It also expands on her methodology of deep, long-term, co-creative collaboration and socially engaged practice involving interspecies-communal-performance making. Welcome to the daily304 – your window into Wonderful, Almost Heaven, West Virginia.   Today is Sunday, March 9, 2025. A childhood love of birds leads to a lifelong career for the founder of a Cheat Lake conservation center…attention, small businesses--learn how you can get grant funding for trade expansion or energy efficiency…and a University of Charleston program is helping students earn degrees debt-free…on today's daily304.   #1 – From MORGANTOWN MAGAZINE – The first word that Katie Fallon spoke was “bird.” So it's fitting that she now finds herself writing books about birds and leading an organization committed to rehabbing some of the biggest birds around.  She and her veterinarian husband, Jesse Fallon, first came to Morgantown as grad students.  Her two nonfiction books—Cerulean Blues and Vulture—illuminate the plights of the region's bird populations and paint a vivid picture of the ecosystems around them.  In 2012, along with her husband and a group of like-minded friends, Katie Fallon put her passion for birds into action, co-founding the Avian Conservation Center of Appalachia.  Nestled at Cheat Lake Animal Hospital and Ridge Way Farm, the ACCA has become a vital resource for bird conservation, and its non-releasable birds of prey serve as ambassadors, captivating audiences through educational programming. Read more: https://morgantownmag.com/faces-of-morgantown-katie-fallon/   #2 – From WV NEWS – Identified by the Preston County Economic Development Authority, several state grant programs, including the State Trade Expansion Program (STEP) Grant and funding for clean energy initiatives, are now open for applications, offering opportunities for West Virginia small businesses and entrepreneurs. The Energy & Manufacturing in Appalachia initiative supports small and medium-sized manufacturers in eligible counties to expand business, production and jobs in energy supply chains while reducing costs through factory efficiencies. Additionally, the West Virginia Department of Economic Development has secured extra funding from the U.S. Small Business Administration's State Trade Expansion Program to assist small businesses with export promotion costs. More information about the STEP Grant is available at westvirginia.gov. Information about clean energy initiatives can be found at cleanenergy.mfgsupplychain.org. Like others, he and his family had concerns about the cost of getting his nursing degree. To help students like Lowe achieve their goals without amassing debt, the University of Charleston launched UC Works in February 2024 in collaboration with WorkForce WV and other business partners. The program provides eligible West Virginia students with a combination of institutional, state, and federal aid programs to cover their UC undergraduate tuition and mandatory fees. It then matches those students with a local employer for part-time paid employment during their enrollment. Today, Michael and eight other UC students are completing their first year of college without worrying about finances.  Read more: https://www.ucwv.edu/2025/02/uc-works-program-helping-students-earn-degrees-debt-free/   Find these stories and more at wv.gov/daily304. HVAC School - For Techs, By Techs

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 14, 2025 14:35

In this short Q&A podcast episode, Bryan answers a listener-submitted question and gives some of his tips for moving to HVAC sales from field technician/installer roles. The world of sales has a different pay structure, which makes it an appealing option to many technicians. Salespeople need to be able to have money conversations with confidence and not be afraid to talk about pricing. You can practice these conversations with friends or fellow technicians, including answering questions and responding to objections. Sales confidence is another key to success in sales. Many successful sales techs go into sales with the assumption that the client wants to work with them and aren't timid because they're confident they'll make the sale. Great salespeople also seek out feedback to learn and grow from. Many great salespeople in the HVAC industry also benefit from learning about load calculations, equipment selection, and duct design, particularly via the ACCA manuals and software like Wrightsoft and Kwik Model 3D. The HVAC Grapevine, NCI, and TEC all have great educational resources about building science. Deploying test instruments, including blower doors, duct blasters, and thermal imaging cameras, also gives you vital information about the structure and shows clients that you're going above and beyond for their comfort; you're delivering quality and doing so with integrity. Communication skills are a crucial part of sales, and the best thing you can do to start honing your communication skills is to ask good questions and listen for valuable answers. Empathy is also important in sales, and it's most effective when you can understand your client's priorities.     Have a question that you want us to answer on the podcast? Guest: Brian Feenie   Guest Bio: With 30 years in the HVAC and Home Services Industry, Brian has worked with top companies like Lennox, Emerson/White Rodgers, Ferguson Enterprises, ServiceTitan, and Google Nest. For the past 15 years, he has focused on helping Home Services businesses implement technology across North America, including IoT (Internet of Things), smart products, SaaS, and productivity tools. Brian has also served as a business coach, bringing a unique perspective to the industry based on his time spent on the contracting side. Currently, Brian leads Business Development efforts at measureQuick, is the National Trainer for JB Industries Climate Class smart tools, and also serves as ACCA's Chief Encouragement Officer for their QI Certificate program.   Key Points: Career Journey and Shift to Entrepreneurship: Brian, had a 30-year career mostly in sales leadership roles. About 20 years in, his wife encouraged him to become a business owner. After being laid off from Google Nest, Brian decided to pursue his dream of starting Shift Logic, a business specializing in HVAC technology and software. He leveraged his background in sales and marketing, as well as relationships from his career, to take the leap into entrepreneurship.   Leveraging Relationships: A key element in Brian's success was asking for help and tapping into his network. He reached out to industry contacts, such as Jim Bergman from measureQuick, who helped promote him within the network, resulting in new clients. Brian also emphasized the importance of being intentional in building a professional network and using platforms like LinkedIn to stay visible and build credibility.   The Importance of Asking: Brian highlights the importance of asking for opportunities, noting that you don't get what you don't ask for. He encourages others to take risks, ask for opportunities, and take shots, as sales is fundamentally about asking for what you need.   Sales Leadership Philosophy: Brian reflects on his experience in sales leadership, stressing the importance of understanding the unique needs of each team member. He believes in leading by serving his team and making sure they feel supported in both their professional and personal growth. This approach creates a positive team culture, which is key for long-term success.   Managing a Sales Team: Brian shares that successful sales leadership requires understanding the personal motivations of team members, not just focusing on hitting numbers. He believes in a consultative approach, supporting individual growth, and helping team members navigate challenges. This approach fosters loyalty and drives success, as seen in the example of a former direct report who credited Brian for his professional development.   LinkedIn as a Tool for Growth: Brian is highly active on LinkedIn, using it to connect, mentor, and share his experiences. He views it as an excellent platform for building relationships and sharing professional insights.   Legacy and Giving Back: Brian values the impact he can have on others, particularly in mentoring and leadership. He finds satisfaction in helping others grow, noting that sales leadership is about more than just numbers—it's about changing lives and creating meaningful connections.       About Salesology®: Conversations with Sales Leaders Download your free gift, The Salesology® Vault. The vault is packed full of free gifts from sales leaders, sales experts, marketing gurus and revenue generation experts.  Download your free gift, 81 Tools to Grow Your Sales & Your Business Faster, More Easily & More Profitably.
