I met Mike at his brother Dave's wedding in St. Louis last weekend. Dave, being my frat brother, meant I had to make the trip to support and celebrate his marriage! When Marlene Rose https://marlenerose.com/ discovered molten glass, she was energized by the adrenaline rush of the material. While pursuing her BFA, she learned that glass could be used for more than just craft, but as a means to convey an idea of what she wanted to say. Although glassblowing was more common at the time, she was drawn to an ancient technique of sand casting, typically used for metal. Ginny and Jen discuss her art practice and figurative painting “The Nordstrom Box” featured in Virtual Realism. In addition to her art practice, Deborah is the author of various works including Cannibal Culture: Art, Appropriation and the Commodification of Difference which had a particular on Jen's thesis research during grad school.
