In this episode, we're joined by movement specialist Lisa Rose for a deep and holistic conversation on how to reconnect with the body's natural design. We begin with the fundamentals of movement, exploring how modern patterns have diverged from our innate blueprint.Lisa emphasizes the importance of the foot and ankle as the foundation of healthy biomechanics, and we explore topics like foot placement, loading and releasing, and natural gait—all essential elements of restoring functional, pain-free movement. We discuss the illusion of comfort and how it can create long-term dysfunction, as well as the consequences of problematic training practices. Lisa dives into the power of nasal breathing, the interconnectedness of trauma and fascia, and the often-overlooked role of internal asymmetry in how we move and feel. This episode also features a personal reflection from Liev's own running journey and closes with a powerful message about restoring natural design—not just as a physical pursuit, but a return to wholeness. It's a must-listen for anyone interested in movement, healing, and reclaiming their body's innate intelligence.Keep up with me (socials)https://www.instagram.com/beyond.terrain/https://beyondterrain.com/Our vision at Beyond Terrain is best supported by sharing our work!Joining our private terrain community is also a wonderful way to support what we do here at Beyond Terrain.https://beyondterrain.com/beyond-terrain-community/Learn more from and support our esteemed guest,https://www.instagram.com/thestrongmermaid/?hl=en
In this podcast episode, Guy interviewed Lisa, who shared her profound journey of spiritual awakening and inner transformation. Lisa, who once identified as a home builder, golfer, and boater, experienced an immense shift that led her to become a proponent for world peace and healing. Her journey began after declaring an end to human suffering and immersing herself in prayer and contemplation. Lisa spoke candidly about her personal struggles, the catalyst that initiated her awakening, and the transformative power of connecting with a higher consciousness. This conversation covered the natural instincts that guided her, her contemplation practices, the physiological experiences during her awakening, and how it altered her perception of herself and the world. Lisa also discussed the challenges and rewards of this path, relationships, and the power of surrendering to a higher power. This episode offers an insightful perspective into the depths of human consciousness and the potential for self-discovery and healing. About Lisa: Lisa Rose is a former home builder, golfer, and boater. After an incredible and life-changing spiritual awakening in February 2016, Lisa took a leap into the unknown and began exploring spirituality and its physiological effects on the body. Below, you can read more about her life and the experience, in her own words. “Feb 2016. I was sitting upon my bed, legs stretched out. Suddenly I felt a sublime flash sensation where every particle of my body stood at attention, in recognition as if meeting their maker. My eyes became clamped shut, something slid back in the middle of my head… very euphoric… then energy began gushing thru my crown. A holographic image of Ramana Maharshi appeared behind my closed eyes along with a warmth that flooded my heart center and we shared telepathic communication. After a few minutes the image faded, the energy subsided some 10mins later and my eyes unclamped. 3yrs prior I had declared myself irrevocably done with human suffering. In resignation I surrendered my body-mind to my Creator and spent much time in intense contemplation of our Divinity… humanity's Omniscient, Infinite & Eternal nature. The experience was followed by 3yrs of Bliss, void of all desires and total detachment from the world, as well as unity with all things, especially earth and nature. I encountered incredible things during this period which has given way to a complete shift in my perception and a deep sense of Universal Peace. The last couple years I've spent investigating things, mainly the Bliss, and marvelling at the incredible latent transcendent abilities of our body-mind organism.” Key Points Discussed: (00:00) - Beyond the Surface: Lisa Rose on Exploring Inner Consciousness (00:08) - Lisa's Journey to Courage (01:21) - A Shift in Perspective (03:02) - Turning Inward (04:57) - Discovering New Thought (09:12) - The Power of Contemplation (12:46) - The Awakening Experience (23:21) - A Profound Encounter (30:56) - Exploring the Mind-Body Connection (31:43) - Bridging Science and Spirituality (35:06) - The Power of Surrender (38:12) - Experiencing Bliss and Transformation (41:50) - The Role of Consciousness in Healing (45:15) - Sharing the Journey and Insights (58:24) - Encouragement for Inner Exploration How to Contact Lisa Rose:www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100004071234132 About me:My Instagram: www.instagram.com/guyhlawrence/?hl=en Guy's websites:www.guylawrence.com.au www.liveinflow.co''

One thing I rarely hear mentioned in the classical world is the need for re-reading great stories. Maybe it's a fear of ruining our habit of attention or a symptom of our modern need to consume and move on, but we've missed something important when it comes to revisiting stories. So, let's ask: How does re-reading change us as readers?I'm joined by Laura E. Wolfe and Lisa Rose to discuss why it's important we revisit stories, how revisiting makes us readers (instead of consumers), and what we can all learn from Charlotte Mason's literary life.Plus, we have our first ever baby guest.Footnotes for this episodePatterns for Life, Wolfe & RosePatterns for Life | WebsitePatterns for Life | SubstackPatterns for Life | YouTubeLaura E. Get your goat: So you want to move to the country and raise goats - A podcast about change
Quotes about change: "Trust your intuition and get out of 'Supposed to ville.'"Imagine waking up one day and deciding to abandon everything you know to find your true self. That's precisely what Lisa Rose Lodeski did when she left her successful career as a private art dealer, turning her world upside down. As we chat with Lisa, she walks us through her soul-searching journey that took her from Hawaii to Europe and back, all in the bid to understand who she truly was without the constraints of societal expectations. But life had more twists in store for Lisa. Just as she was adjusting to her new life, her husband suffered a catastrophic accident, forcing her to pivot yet again. In the midst of this unexpected change, Lisa discovered the strength to navigate her husband's health crisis and accept help from her friends. She opens up about the challenges she faced, and how trusting her intuition provided solace and a sense of control, even in the face of overwhelming uncertainty.Throughout our conversation, the recurring theme of trusting one's intuition becomes apparent. Listen as Lisa shares how she harnessed her intuition to attract almost magical solutions to her circumstances. Her story serves as a powerful reminder that we all have the ability to take control of our own journeys, trust our intuition, and embrace change. If you're on the brink of a significant life transition, you won't want to miss Lisa Rose Lodeski's inspiring perspective.http://getyourgoat.ca/season-three

Our guest today is Lisa Rose, author of the new book: Urban Foraging, Find, Gather, and Cook 50 Wild Plants, as well as a few other titles on foraging and food. Though urban foraging doesn't come up much on this show, it's always been important to Daniel. It was how he first started foraging, finding plants that grew in his backyard, snacks that grew up through the cracks in his sidewalk, or most importantly, harvesting fruits from neighborhood trees and abandoned lots around town. So we were glad to see that Lisa took this topic on, as it's a great way to introduce someone new to foraging, without having to simultaneously immerse them in wild places that might otherwise add to the complexity of what they're experiencing or learning. Of course, urban foraging poses some unique challenges outside of just land use issues, and that has to do with contamination by pollution. But then again, we face similar threats at the supermarket, where much of the food has also been contaminated by dangerous and pervasive chemicals like pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides. We say that, just to point out that, in 2022 we have to be thoughtful about anything and everything we eat, no matter the source. Daniel's conversation with Lisa also gets pretty philosophical, because foraging, though intensely practical, is today, something we usually do for reasons beyond the pragmatic. We take it on because it holds meaning to us. At least, that — in addition to foods we can't get anywhere else — is what keeps us going out there to encounter species that live on the margins of our nearly ubiquitous human settlements. Though we, as a species, are swimming in excess calories today, relegating foraging to something of an anachronism, we would argue that it's more important now than ever before. Not because we need to do it for food, but because food is the primary way we interact with other species. Because that's what food is after all. Other species. And when we interact only with each other and the suite of domesticated species that we typically live amongst or eat, it becomes easy to forget we share this planet with other creatures. Creatures much older than us or our way of life, creatures that have been here all along. Food is our doorway to ecological literacy. And without that, our planet, we fear, is doomed to be simplified into — eventually — one giant dystopian factory farm, with humans as much the farmer as the farmed. So, while much of the world sees foraging as a throwback to a time long passed, we see it as a doorway to a better, more integrated, and more ecologically diverse future. That makes Urban Foraging a significant act. More than a hobby. It's an investment in a better world. Subscribe: iTunes I Spotify I Google Play Music In this episode on All the WRITE Marketing, Maria Dismondy talks with Lisa Rose, an educator and author on how you can diversify your child's bookshelf. Lisa Rose is a recovering first-grade teacher now turned author. As a mother of a special needs daughter, she noticed that there weren't many diverse children's books. It was important to Lisa to have books that represent other groups of people or individuals that you don't often see. She made it her mission to create books that were fun but that also created awareness around diversity. Lisa believes that when children can see themselves or others that may look different than them in stories it creates connection, common ground, and empathy for others. In this episode, you will learn: What is the value of your child reading diverse books? What is casual diversity? What are some examples of books with casual diversity? why some books are considered to have casual diversity. As you see others it creates empathy for the other because they find that they have so much in common”
In this episode we speak to Lisa Rose, Philanthropy Programme Manager at The Beacon Collective and Vic Thrift, Director at Wealth. We discuss the giving needs of the future wealthy, their relationship with philanthropy and how to more meaningfully engage with young donors.
#175 My wonderful guest this week is Lisa Rose. Home builder and golfer turned proponent of world peace, Lisa's transformational story is truly amazing to listen to in this episode. During our conversation, we talk about the importance of turning our attention inwards, its consequences, and how life-changing it can be to surrender to the unknown. If you're interested in hearing about an in-depth account of what a spiritual awakening can be like, this one is for you. “After the experience, it was like you're starting to look at things with creator eyes, and the beauty of a butterfly.” About Lisa: Lisa Rose is a former home builder, golfer, and boater. The last couple years I've spent investigating things, mainly the Bliss, and marvelling at the incredible latent transcendent abilities of our body-mind organism.” Lisa's Facebook: www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100004071234132 Key points with time stamp: From Just Existing to Truly Living (00:00) Lisa as a proponent of world peace (01:23) Going from home builder to making a declaration on human suffering (02:36) Should you be looking inward for the answers? All I ever did was emphatically declare, “I want to know God, NOW!” It wasn’t long before I was fast-tracked into a reality I didn’t know existed, an inner world full of extraordinary gifts and ultimately liberation of the mind. I’d stumbled upon a pamphlet that outlines a formula to regenerate one’s human race consciousness to Divine Consciousness, like a reboot, by calling forth into one’s mind higher, more universally aligned modes of Being. That pamphlet became my bible, my book of living, and thru contemplative practice expanded the I AM presence within, attracting that which is stable, immutable Principle into my self-consciousness. The art of surrender as put forth by Ramana Maharshi played a huge role along the way, although at the time I had little clue who he was. The regeneration occurred in February 2016, followed by three full years of Bliss, a state of Consciousness I am convinced is that of a newborn. I wallowed in that cocoon, integrating the expansion that I sometimes felt might never end!!! until the desire emerged to step back out into the world. A two-year investigation of kundalini life energy, universal consciousness, and fractal/plasma physics has continued my evolving perception and experiences. The real fun has truly begun, my book of living has become my Book of Life! Lisa's Facebook page Books mentioned during the interview: From Existence to Life - account of Lisa's experience mentioned in the interview. Mind’s Silent Partner, Dr. James Porter Mills (free PDF) James Porter Mills Collection Three Books: From Existence to Life: The Science of Self Consciousness; Mind’s Silent Partner; A New Order of Meditation (The Esoteric Collection) (physical books) The Spiritual Teaching of Ramana Maharshi Holy Spirit's Interpretation of the New Testament: A Course in Understanding and Acceptance - Regina Dawn Akers The Teachings of Inner Ramana - Regina Dawn Akers Healing; the Handbook: Life-changing guide for practitioners or for self-healing - Ken Graydon The Scientific Basis of Integrative Medicine, Second Edition Book Review: The Scientific Basis of Integrative Medicine, Len Wisneski & Lucy Anderson Main points discussed: Initial awakening occurred after three years of intense contemplation and desire to know God. Holographic and telepathic encounter with Ramana Maharshi. Three-year blissful contemplation on the "Omniscient, infinite and eternal nature". The bliss eclipsed human emotions such as fear and animosity. The bliss subsided as the awakening became more integrated. Most people don’t relate God and ‘consciousness’. Shift from fear to divine love. Heart-brain coherence ended 20-year problem with heart palpitations. Recognizing that consciousness is primal and not a product of the brain accelerates our evolution. The importance of balancing experience and understanding. Your higher self knows everything about you and knows what is best for you. No such thing as coincidence. ‘There is no bridge between here and here, we are all that is, we are sovereign beings.’ Six main points: Update your science. Understand the non-solid nature of physical matter. Set your Intention. “I want to know God.” “I want to know my Creator.” “I want to Awaken.” “I want to Embody only Truth.” Claim your True Identity. Recognize and assert your Divine Origin, your Universal Nature! Give in, give over, completely give way to your Creator! Focus your attention on your intention! Do not sway. Be a rock, do not roll. Unwavering. The power of attention. Self-healing comes from the omnipresent nature of our consciousness. Discussion of the pineal gland. Discussion of this interview in the BatGap Community Facebook Group. Interview recorded April 10, 2021. Video and audio below. Audio also available as a Podcast.

You will really enjoy today’s guests who went from reality TV star to News Anchor, to MSU’s Director of Athletic Development. Here’s Callie Carroll!Callie knew as early as 12 years old that she wanted to be a news anchor. So she set out on that path. While attending Missouri State University she trained with names you’ll recognize from our local KY3: Ned Reynolds and Lisa Rose. At this point, she decided she wanted to cover sports broadcasting. One of her sports stories developed into a more personal story as a player was fighting cancer. That influenced her decision to cover a broader range of stories and circled her back to her dream of becoming a news anchor. NOTE: Since this episode was recorded the name of the Bears Unite campaign that was mentioned, has changed to "We Are One". Lisa Rosa came over from the island of Oahu to capture some engagement photos, while here on Maui we sat down to chat a bit about her journey and what she is about. We discussed how Lisa used photography as a source of release and escape. She shared how photography brought light back into her life and how this affected the way she looked at her clients and work. Lisa is an amazing friend, mom, and human. She is not afraid to be real and vulnerable. We talked about SO many different topics, obviously, we touched on gear, technical talk, settings, shooting, as well as how to say no to clients and knowing what YOUR specialty is. You are going to get inquiries to shoot the same things that you are constantly posting / sharing both on insta and your website. Straight from Lisa's website: "I am a mother of 2 and it was after I was blessed with my daughter in 2012, I realized how quickly my children were growing. I picked up a camera with the intention of documenting my children's lives, but before I knew it I was capturing moments for those around me. I have a strong passion for the simple things in life and I love being able to capture moments we can relive over and over through photographs. I often remind myself that there are moments in life you can't get back and that's one of the daily reminders I use to fuel why I do what I do. That is to simply freeze time in moments you are just... living. Jane Breskin Zalben is an artist/illustrator and the author of over 50 books for children. Her recent picture book, A Moon for Moe and Mo, was featured in the Missing Voice picture book discussion group on Facebook in September 2018. The Missing Voice group was created by another author, Lisa Rose, to bring books about under-represented populations into the limelight. You may be familiar with Lisa's book, Shmulik Paints the Town. I spoke with Jane and Lisa by conference call, in the week following the anti-Semitic attack at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, because I felt it was the right time to talk about stories that model friendships between Jews and non-Jews, and to encourage people to read more books that offer windows into different cultures. During that same week, I worked with a bunch of my favorite women, my posse of snarky Jewish kidlit nerds from across the world, to create a book list addressing anti-Semitism. We crafted a list of picture books and chapter books on the theme of "standing up for each other." It's the first in the Love Your Neighbor series of book lists published by the Association of Jewish Libraries. There's a great article at Tablet Magazine about the creation of the book list series. Please use and share the Love Your Neighbor book lists as widely as you can! bookoflifepodcast.com

My guest today is Lisa Rose, author most recently of Midwest Foraging, which was supposed to be the basis of our conversation and we do touch on that some, but also spend our time telling stories about family traditions; place and the lands we each feel connected to; and how foraging and food can return seasonality to our lives, along with a host of new flavors, once we leave the grocery store behind. There's also a digression in the middle about nocino, an Italian sipping liquer, which you can find a recipe for at Lisa's site, Burdock and Rose, and pick up a copy of her book at Timber Press. When it comes to Midwest Foraging I agree with the quote from Sam Thayer that graces the cover, “A beautiful book that any forager in the Midwest will want to own.” As there is an overlap in plants from this book to where I am in the Mid-Atlantic, it's a good addition to those book shelves as well. The layout and format leads to a book that you can, as Dan De Lion recommended, spend time with to leisurely browse and read to build a familiarity with plants which you can then begin to recognize as you go about your daily walks or journeys into the landscape. The entries, which are arranged alphabetically around a common name, include the latin binomial name, very important for proper discussion and identification, along with which parts are edible, a short introduction, and one to a few color pictures. Common features you'll find in many field guides include descriptive text, how and what to gather, how to eat the plants, and, where necessary, cautions about poisonous plants that have similar identifying features. Where this book stands out from some earlier field guides is the inclusion of information on where and when to gather, very important for knowing the right time of year to look for a particular plant; and notes about future harvests. This latter portion in particular caught my attention because using those entries we can wildcraft ethically to insure plants are available for ongoing use and so we can tend to Zone 4 and the wild places. With 115 plants included, Midwest Foraging covers a lot of ground and is a good first choice for a beginning forager in the region covered. For more experienced folks with a larger library this is a valuable companion to include with your other field guides. Add a copy to your library by ordering from Timber Press or your local retailer, where the book lists for $24.95. If you enjoyed this conversation with Lisa and would like to add your thoughts to the discussion, or your own review of Midwest Foraging, leave a comment below. This is part two of the round table recorded live at The Riverside Project outside of Charles Town, West Virginia. The panelists include Nicole Luttrell of Deeply Rooted Design, Jesse Wyner of Liberty Root Farm, Ashley Davis, a permaculture design certified herbalist who runs Meadowsweet Botanicals, and Diane Blust, a former government employee starting her own permaculture homestead, Chicory Hill Farm. We pick up after taking a short break from recording part 1 and open with a discussion on permaculture as a movement. I would like to thank Emma Huvos for setting up this event, inviting the panelists, and hosting at her farm. Visit TheRiversideProject.com to learn more about her work to move the farm more towards permaculture, and to check the calendar for any upcoming events. Opportunities like this trip to West Virginia depend on the support of listeners, and the sponsorship of people doing good work such as Jen Mendez at PermieKids. In addition to her own podcasts that explore the topics of children, permaculture, and education, which I recommend you check out if your life involves any of these three subjects, she also offers a number of courses on Educational Design, an ongoing series of EDGE Alliances -- topical webinars with featured guests -- and personal consultations. Recently she added a series of electronic campfires, in cooperation with Dr. David Blumenkrantz and the Center for Youth and Community, that expands on the recent conversation we shared on Youth and Community Development and Rites of Passage. Find out more at PermieKids.com. Should you decide to join in on any of these courses or other offerings, know that Jen extended a discount of 10% off of her courses and other materials to Patreon supporters. Leaving this round table and getting to sit down with everyone and talk about permaculture at the potluck afterwards left me reminded of the trip to visit with Eric Puro and other members of ThePOOSH in Kentucky and the need to spend time with people in order to create intimacy and community. For that day in West Virginia, as we all sat around and talked, we bonded through the common interest in permaculture and creating the world made possible by systemic design. This idea of building trust, intimacy, and community I've been digging into for the past several months is the only way I see that we can create the opportunities necessary to face the issues that lead humanity ever closer to crisis. Solutions exist to all the technical problems we face over the next century including climate change, energy, food, transportation. All of it. Every last one. The only thing we lack, however, is the social and political capital to make it happen. To change all of that, will you join me? Wherever you are at, whatever your choices may be for yourself and your descendents, starting today will you live with intent to broaden your community and move closer to creating the world you want to live in? If you are politically minded, will you run for office? If you work in the public sector, will you guide decisions and policies so they come from a permaculture perspective? If you own a business will you move your company structure and rules to align with the ethics of permaculture? In your day to day life will you work on reducing the impacts of your lifestyle and become an example for others? We all have a role in creating a bountiful world. If there is any way I can assist you on taking action in your own life, let me know. . Email: The Permaculture Podcast or you can drop something in the mail. The Permaculture Podcast The Permaculture Podcast Also, if you or anyone else you know is interested in hosting a round table like this in your city or at your homestead, get in touch and we can talk about the possibility. My guest for this episode is Joshua Peace Seeker Hughes, an American permaculture practitioner living and farming in Costa Rica. His work there, which forms our discussion today, includes issues of land preservation through bottom up solutions, regenerative resource based economies, divestment, changing our lifestyles, the real wealth in of resources versus the illusion of money, and how we are in a period of transformation that requires transitional ethics. You can find out more about his work at Verdenergia.org. As part of Joshua's work to bring his talents to bear and assist other in what they do, he has donated a Permaculture Design Course to the podcast as a fundraiser. Since I don't know when you will hear this, the PDC is being raffled off through November 27, 2015. Chances are $50 each and is limited to no more than 50 entries. The prize is transferrable if you would like to enter on someone's behalf or are unable to attend. Everyone who enters and does not win is entitled to $100 off of a future PDC at Verdenergia. Find out complete details by following this link: Costa Rica Permaculture Design Course Joshua is also open to coming back on the podcast for another open conversation like this one to talk about social enterprise and devestment, and other Chapter 14 permaculture topics. Let me know if you have questions for him. With those announcements I also want to let you know that Jen Mendez at PermieKids.com has some EDGE Alliances coming up in cooperation with Lisa Kohlhepp focusing on Outdoor Place-Based Nature Study. November 8, 2015 is Homegrown Family, and December 13 is The Neighborhood Tribe. Lorina Harris joins Jen to talk about Form on October 27, and Patterns on November 10. You can read about both of these series of classes and see the other upcoming courses by going to permiekids.com/community-collaboration. Stepping away from this conversation I'm left with three reminders of how to change our lives and accomplish our goals. Those are: living with intent, living where we are at, and living in community. Living with intent means to actively make choices about our actions and what we bring into. Now, more than ever, each of us and our decisions impact not only ourselves, but also the descendants of humanity and all other life on the planet. Living where you are at means inhabiting both the physical sense of place, and getting to know the people and space that you call home, but also about developing self-awareness. We must know our needs and wants in order to live well where we are, and to be kind to ourselves and others for each of us are at a different stage of the journey, and that trip is our own to take. Living with community means connecting with others to rebuild what we've lost as a culture. We arrived in this moment through the passage of time, and so did the story of our society. Meet other like-minded folks. Tell stories. Expand your Zone 1 and Zone 2 social permaculture circles, and get real with others. Dig deep. Get to know others so you can trust one another whatever the situation What did you think of this interview and the places we went to with the more conversational style? Or is there any way I can assist you on your path? Let me know. . Email: The Permaculture Podcast Or, if you'd like, drop a letter or post card in the mail to me. My guest is Michael Nickels, a farmer and permaculture practitioner from Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, who runs Seven Ravens Permaculture Academy and Eco Forest. When not in Canada, Michael spends much of his time in Africa building schools that focus on teaching permaculture to children and their teachers. This forms the basis for what you will hear today, though if you are familiar with the normal format of the show, this one is a bit different. Listening to Michael I got caught up in what he was sharing from his earliest interests and love of nature, to his permaculture practices, and then on to the ways that he fundraises and works in a number of east African nations to construct the permaculture based schools. The way he tells stories, with asides and reconnections back to the main thread, is how my family told stories and the way I do, in a somewhat non-linear fashion, when not sitting behind a scripted podcast episode. As a result this is Michael telling his story with no interruption or break from me until nearly an hour in, so settle in, relax, and listen to how we can all have a greater impact than we might imagine, just by tuning in, getting engaged, and taking action. You can find out more about Michael at Seven-Ravens.com. There you will also find links to the IndieGoGo campaign for the teacher school in Tanzania and to donate directly to his efforts. Michael's work reminded of something that Jack Spirko said, in my interview with him sometime ago, that permaculture, compared to many other movements, is a do-acracy. We get fired up and passionate about something and then run with it and make it happen. Along the way we use the principles to learn from our mistakes and keep refining and developing, improving ourselves and what we are doing. What was shared with us in this episode reflects that from the very beginning of Michael's story up until his current work. Something else that I like about Michael as an example for what is possible is that he self-financed initially. He had an idea and found ways to make it work and then once he reached a point where he needed more assistance, he continued to build his networks and raise the funds needed to get things done. This wasn't an idea waiting for resources before beginning, he got started and then found what he needed to keep going. If you were in Michael's shoes, saw this need, a place where you could fill a niche, how would you take your first step forward? What would you do to bring your vision, your dream, into the world? What would you do, that is unique to you, that would make a difference? Whatever steps you would take, I would like to hear from you. To know what you are working with, and what you are doing to make it happen. Together we might even make it easier to get and keep your plans and project going. Email: The Permaculture Podcast From here I have three round-table sessions and an interview already recorded for upcoming release, as well as two book reviews in process, and more conversations on the schedule including foraging with Lisa Rose, fermentation with Sandor Katz, more rewilding with Peter Michael Bauer, and urban water catchment with Brad Lancaster. If you have questions for any of these upcoming guests, leave a comment in the show notes or get in touch with me by the usual ways. If there is any way I can assist you on your journey, give me a ring, let me know what is going on in your life and how we can create more opportunity in your world. Until the next time, take care of the earth, your self, and each other. This is Episode 1536: We Can All Be Builders, and is the complete audio, including an audience question and answer session, from Eric Puro's keynote address at Radicle Gathering on August 21, 2015. For those of you who watched the video I posted a week ago, there is an additional 20 minutes of material here that wasn't part of the visual recording, as the camera battery died and I couldn't swap it out at the time, but the audio feed continued rolling along. If you didn't watch the video, no problem, just settle in and relax as you can hear all that and more in this episode. During his address Eric shares with us the concept of Vernacular Architecture, what it means to truly build with local sustainable materials and the decisions involved in that process, and invites us all to be active in our role as builders. He also shares information about the non-profit, ThePOOSH.org, he and other members run, and how we can get involved. The Q&A that rounds out his speech touches on the new community he and members building codes and personal decisions, creating relationships in order to keep disputes from arising, and how to explore and find solutions to problems of living sustainably, such as lighting your home. I'd like to thank Photographer John for allowing me to borrow the equipment I used to make this recording, and the video possible. I'd also like to thank every listener who contributes to the show. You allow me to keep the show transmitting out into the ether, and to documents events like Radicle Gathering. If you prefer to make a one time show of support, use the PayPal button on the right hand side of this. Find out more about Eric Puro and his work at ThePOOSH.org. Before getting into my thoughts about this speech, a few quick class announcements. Jen Mendez of PermieKids.com, a long-time friend and sponsor to the show, has a number of online events in September. First are her EDGE Alliances. On September 13 join her and other members of the PermieKids community to discuss “What's Home? Outdoor Place-Based Nature Study.” Two days later on September 15 is “Connecting with the Natural Wonderment of the World through the Visual Arts. In addition to those EDGE Alliances, She and David Blumenkrantz are continuing to share their work on Youth and Community Development through Rites of Passage, which formed the basis for our interview released on July 16. Join Jen and David as they expand on those ideas through a series of virtual campfires discussion, the first of which is on September 21, 2015. So, Eric's Keynote. I was fortunate enough to not only attend Radicle to hear Eric's speech, but also to spend time living in community with him and others for several days in Clear Creek ahead of the time spent at Radicle. I also recorded a round table discussion with folks there, which I'm planning to release on September 17. In that experience I got to see and begin to understand what it means to be in community with others, and the importance of an invitation into something. I was invited to stay with them, but then invited to help build with them. During Radicle I joined Eric, Loren, Satu, Adam, and my friend, The Other Eric (who joined me for the journey to Kentucky), to build the the foundation for the cob oven. Coming from a background where the attitude was “do it right or don't do it at all,” I was initially hesitant to join in collecting materials or the construction, instead watching from the side and asking questions. Then I was told that the only way I'll learn is to do and that anything that is done can be undone so hop in. It was a rewarding experience and as a result I collected and stacked stones, dug for sandy soil, and had some deep discussions about creating outside the bounds of a schedule driven, just in time, forever faster system. That made Eric's keynote resonate even more strongly with me, and is why I titled this episode We Can All Be Builders. Each of the members of ThePOOSH, and others unrelated to that work but who live in Clear Creek, Kentucky, opened the door and joined in at every step of the way to support and grow not only the projects, but also the people involved, including myself. Those people in that place allowed a space for me to let go of my rational mind and begin to feel, in a way uncoupled from the facts and figures of daily life, and was a reminder of the value of emotions and, as Dave Jacke said, what they can tell us about what is going on in our lives, in the moment. There is information in those emotions. We need to be free of that rational reductionist side from time to time in order that we have the perspective that can pair the irrational with the reductionist knowledge we gain through education and formal experiences. Taking those disparate parts and build a new story that is not one or the other, not the weight of the past or the activities of the present or the dreams of the future, but a synthesis of all the moving parts into something unique. Something novel. Something new the world has never seen before. In that space, that mindset, we can find the thoughts that are different. Those ideas can get us out of the situations we find ourselves in. We can be creative in our use of permaculture as a decisions making process and apply it to whatever situation we find ourselves in. Like talking to a building inspector about the structure we built, how it was built, and why it is safe in an earthquake zone, even though we are not engineers. To be good with our neighbors and learn that sharing strawberries or garlic or a beer or wine, can create a better relationship, but that we still have the option to build a fence if what we do is onerous to others and there is no way to resolve it otherwise. As permaculture practitioners we have all the tools to create an abundant world, now all we need are the skills and the space within our particular niche to make it happen. If I can help you with that, get in touch with me. Email: The Permaculture Podcast. From here, my upcoming recordings and other events, all lumped together by date. Jason Godesky and I are looking to sit down over Labor Day weekend and record an in-person interview to discuss his thoughts on re-wilding and the open-source role playing game he wrote, The Fifth World, which seeks to explore what life might be like after the fall of civilization four hundred years from now. If you are a gamer, definitely check that out. September 10, a Thursday and a normal release day for the podcast, is the day I turn 36. I usually take my birthday week off from the podcast, but may release a personal reflection on some of the lessons I've learned recently, and the current direction of the show. September 12, I will be at The Riverside Project outside of Charles Town, West Virginia, to record an in-person round table discussion. The panelists are currently Nicole Luttrell of Deeply Rooted Design, Jesse Wyner of Liberty Root Farm, Ashley Davis, a permaculture design certified herbalist who runs Meadowsweet Botanicals, and Diane Blust, a retired government worker who is starting her permaculture homestead, Chicory Hill Farm. This event kicks off at 2pm with a meet and greet, followed by a recording from 230-330, a short break, another recording from 4pm-5pm, and then a potluck from 5pm-??? IIt's our honour to present our Next Guest For (May 2, 2014) The Super Underground Female DJ "Lisa Rose" all the way from San Francisco, California, United States. No stranger to the game, Lisa Rose has been in the mix for over 8 years. Lisa has been a fixture in SF’s underground rave scene. Clubbing and record collecting were an essential part of her life; so much so that she often found herself introducing music from abroad to her A list DJ friends. It was soon widely known that Lisa had an ear for music that was more than a love of dance music. Subtle nuances and the ability to accurately predict the success a tune would have on the dancefloor made Lisa a valuable asset to many top DJs. Lisa was not content to be the muse of others, she knew that behind the decks was where she wanted to be. Lisa has the fluidity down with her complex music choices and thoughtful interplay between tracks. There are no accidental mixes when she spins. It’s always about what the music will do to and for people, and Lisa plays for no other purpose than to get people off their ass and on the floor! Bring your dancing shoes, because with Lisa on the decks there is little chance your will be sitting down. From the depths of time to the heights of creation...
