October is not only a great time to celebrate fiber (what with the Lambtown and Rhinebeck festivals, just to name a few), but it's also Breast Cancer Awareness month. How do we get both things in one podcast? Knitted Knockers!Barbara Demorest is the Feisty Lady with Fortitude who took a horrible event in life and made it into something that has helped millions to cope with the ravages of breast cancer. We hope you tune in to see what she did, and maybe even how you can be a part of what this amazing organization does to help others. And all with a bit of fiber and friendship.P.S. We miss you, Mom, but we'll keep trying to save the udders (always one for a good pun, she was).Links:https://www.knittedknockers.org/https://www.lambtown.org/https://sheepandwool.com/Support the show
Self-described "nobody," Barbara Demorest, describes how a personal encounter with cancer inspired her to find a solution for a common problem facing breast cancer victims. She said "Yes," when many others may have taken a pass. We talk about walking through open doors, not stressing when a door closes, the hazards of putting limits upon ourselves, how impostor syndrome impacts our ability to step forward, beginning with little steps, how to equip and inspire others, dealing with criticism, the symbiotic nature of giving/receiving, why caring is critical, humility and staying on guard against pride, suffering in order to transform, trusting and having faith even in adversity, how encouragement speaks life into people, and how God uses the nobody's. Barb is certainly not a "nobody" to thousands of women across the globe, and you'll love finding out what a special somebody she is! knittedknockers.org
Barbara Demorest is the Founder & President of Knitted Knockers Support Foundation

Barbara Demorest’s story may have begun with devastation, but God collided with her pain in BIG and unexpected ways to inspire thousands of women all over the world. We’re thrilled to welcome Barb as our very first podcast guest to share the experience of redemption and impact she never imagined for her life. This woman is truly incredible - you can hear her passion and hope straight through your speakers when you tune into this episode!
Barbara Demorest recently retired from her 30 year career as a CPA in order to pursue her passion for connecting volunteer knitters and crocheters with breast cancer survivors to provide free knitted knockers to those that can use them. Barbara has traveled to Rwanda to teach women how to knit their own knitted knockers. She says, “After hearing the awful words, you have cancer and struggling with the impact of having a mastectomy, a simple gift of comfort and dignity knit by a caring friend changed my life.” Learn more at KnittedKnockers.org. After receiving a breast cancer diagnosis and being unable to have reconstructive surgery, Barbara Demorest was devastated. Then she discovered an alternative to traditional breast prosthetics that not only made her feel whole again, but changed her life, too. In this week’s episode of CURE Talks Cancer, we spoke with Demorest, [the founder of KnittedKnockers.org](https://www.curetoday.com/articles/knitted-prostheses-provide-comfort-and-community-for-women-with-breast-cancer), about how her cancer journey helped her create a sense of community for women with breast cancer all around the world with Knitted Knockers.
