Welcome to a brand new season of the podcast. It has been a longer break than originally planned, so in this episode I go into what's happening behind the scenes and what's changing with the podcast. And as we're approaching the two year podcast anniversary, I am asking for your reviews (lets get to 100 by the end of October!) and your questions for an upcoming live Q&A. Today’s episode is something a little different for the Creatively Human podcast. When I interviewed the 10 guests from season 4, I asked them all the same bonus question and didn’t include their answers in the original episodes. The question was: how do you keep showing up for your business even when it’s hard? This episode features their words of wisdom, from building your support network, to trusting that the right people will hear what you have to say, and being kind to yourself. I hope it gives you some gentle encouragement to keep going even though you sometimes feel like giving up (and we all do feel that way sometimes). This week on the podcast I speak to Ruth Poundwhite, a freelance writer & blogger turned successful online business owner, creative business mentor to quietly ambitious humans, and podcaster at Creatively Human. We talk openly about how to start your very own podcast and share lots of tips you will want to hear if you have ever thought about, are in the process of or have already created your own podcast! Including: - The benefits of podcasting - How to use your podcast to create community - Launching products using a podcast - What equipment you need to start - Minimal editing - Being okay with 'imperfection' - Creating your artwork and choosing a title - Planning your podcast series/ episodes - Batching your interviews vs individual interviews - Finding guests and scheduling your episodes - Repurposing And lots of tips on short cuts and how to make it easy for you too!
"When I first had the idea [to create a podcast], I saw it as an idea that I had that I would never, ever do. So the fact that I've done it, and am doing it, it's shown me that I can be scared and still do it anyway." My guest this week is a woman who, like me, describes herself as "one of the quiet ones". She is a freelance writer, online business owner, creative business mentor and host of the Creatively Human podcast. Ruth Poundwhite started her business after leaving university but, as an introvert, she consciously avoided sharing anything of herself with that community. Fast forward ten years and in 2018 she felt "an itch to do something more of myself, my face and my voice." And I for one, am so glad that she did. Listening to Ruth's podcast conversations with other creatives and the deeper side of business, along with her solo episodes, has opened my eyes to the reality that sharing more of ourselves doesn't make us weak. Just because it's scary doesn't mean we should hide away and be afraid for anyone to hear our real voice. As Ruth said in a recent interview, "Showing up as we fundamentally are, and telling the truth of the experiences that we do choose to share, is what connects us as humans." In this final episode of season 1 of Creatively Human, I share my journey of starting something new, scary and ultimately totally fulfilling: the podcast itself! And although this is about my experience of podcasting, it's more about the feelings and the mindset stuff that goes into doing anything new or creative. Since this is the last episode of the season, I'd love to have you join me on Instagramor my Facebook Groupso we can connect there while I take about a month off. You can also subscribe to my newsletter 'notes & reflections' to get behind-the-scenes letters from my business journey. "The best thing about being more visible, the best thing about showing your face or recording your voice and then having to watch or listen to it back is that you kind of get used to it, you kind of accept yourself more." Some of the things I talk about: How I went from idea to action, and why I never thought it would happen Dealing with HUGE impostor syndrome, a period of anxiety & how I pushed through The massive nerves I felt asking guests & interviewing people as an awkward introvert How starting a podcast has taught me a lot about my personality, and that I’m a lot more capable than I realised Launching with a small community, but with massive support, and how I felt on launch day The experience of listening back to myself, and how I feel I've improved my conversation skills How the podcast has been a very much more creatively fulfilling project than I ever imagined The work involved with podcasting, and how I’m streamlining that The hardest things about starting the podcast For episode show notes & links, head to https://ruthpoundwhite.com/podcast/

In this solo episode on Creatively Human, I talk about how I'm prioritising feeling good and in alignment with my values in my work. I also share how I didn't always do things this way, and why it's actually quite scary at times to forge your own path. I'd love to hear from you on this one, so please come and share in my brand new Facebook group, Simple & Joyful Business, where I've got a special video there waiting for you to help you uncover your core business values. "As long as you’re making the money you need for your business to be sustainable then there’s absolutely no reason why you can’t just go with what feels good." Some of the things I talk about: How I started my business very unintentionally and followed the wrong people Why I have regular business meetings with myself Getting clear on how I feel, my values, and whether what I’m doing matches those Choosing not to do things that feel pressured or icky, and tuning out the noise Trying not to always aim for “more" Why it’s not as simple as it sounds (and actually a bit scary!) In the first ever episode of the Creatively Human podcast, I chat with the amazing Ray Dodd about how she moved into her zone of genius, the internal stories we have about ourselves (and why they probably aren't true), and what it means to take up space as a woman. "Taking up space is acknowledging that there is a space in the world that only you can fill." - Ray Dodd Some of the things we talked about: What it means to take up space and why it’s so important Ray’s business journey, and how she took a big leap to start her current business How she feels about being super-visible in her business, and whether it has made her more confident Investing in your own support network How the stories we tell ourselves probably aren’t true, and how to switch them to our own advantage For episode show notes & links, head to https://ruthpoundwhite.com/podcast/
