Repurposing the Site C Work Camp Guest: Mukhtar Latif, CEO of Pomegranate Housing Consultancy By Stuart McNish “We have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to create Canada's premier centre for excellence in mental health and addictions in [British Columbia]'s northeast,” says Mukhtar Latif of Pomegranate Housing Consultancy. The North Wind Wellness Centre Society and Treaty 8 First Nations have put forward a plan to repurpose the Site C workers' camp into a permanent asset that will deliver transformational healthcare services. The worker accommodation facility was built to house 1,600 workers and it came with a wide range of services and utilities. Now that the work of building the dam is complete, the site is about to be decommissioned. “This facility will address a more than 6 month waitlist for people needing treatment in Northern BC,” says Latif. If successful in their bid to have BC Hydro endorse the plan to repurpose the site, the benefits are multidimensional. “The centre will generate new treatments and best practices, train more than 200 people in critical healthcare roles, [and] save the healthcare system more than $30 million,” says Latif. We invited Mukhtar Latif to join us for a Conversation That Matters about the innovative plan to reuse the Site C workcamp as a place of healing. In episode 148 of The Raising Capital Show, Nate Dodson sits down with Dave Dubeau to discuss how syndicators and fund managers use podcasting as a direct path to raising more capital. Instead of chasing downloads or trying to book celebrity guests, there is a smarter approach: design your show around your investor avatar, highlight them as guests, and use each episode as a stepping stone toward accredited investor meetings. Then repurpose the show's content for marketing outreach as an end-to-end marketing system. This is how to structure interviews to open up investment conversations, build your authority in the investment world, and repurpose podcast content into a full marketing system. Here are some real-world examples of syndicators who used this approach to secure investments and even connect with billion-dollar fund managers. Highlights: “Forget downloads. The real value is in interviewing your ideal investors directly.” “Podcasting becomes your relationship-building machine, not just another piece of media.” “With the right system, every episode creates trust, authority, and new opportunities for discovery calls.” Timestamps: (02:08) Why most podcasts fail to attract investors (05:27) Designing your show around the investor avatar (08:10) Structuring interviews that build trust and authority (11:05) Transitioning from interviews to discovery calls (13:50) Repurposing episodes into marketing content (17:20) Success stories from syndicators using this strategy (20:30) How podcasting becomes a top-to-bottom investor funnel

Why iterating and refining AI outputs is the secret to avoiding “AI slop”. Creative use cases, from growing email lists with QR codes to recording presentations and sharing with a single link. Canva's free subscription for nonprofits and why more organizations should take advantage of it. Emily reminds us that AI tools are meant to save time, build confidence, and open doors to creativity - not replace the human touch.

DESCRIPTION Welcome to The Ecommerce Braintrust podcast, brought to you by Julie Spear, Head of Retail Marketplace Services, and Jordan Ripley, Director of Retail Operations. Today, we're tackling what might be the least glamourously named ad product out there: OLV, short for “Online Video.” But don't let the name fool you. Behind that bland acronym lies a powerful tool that's been driving some seriously impressive results. To help us unpack the magic of OLV, we're joined by two of the masterminds making it happen on the front lines: Ross Walker and Carel van Rooyen from our retail media team. “It's getting more and more expensive to buy incremental traffic on Amazon itself. This is true especially for brands competing in premium beauty categories or even CPG grocery categories. It's tough to get an edge.” Ross Walker KEY TAKEAWAYS In this episode, Julie, Jordan, Carel, and Ross discuss: Clarification of OLV as Online Video, distinct from sponsored brand video and streaming TV. Where OLV ads run (off Amazon, across the open web and apps via Amazon's publisher network). How OLV has helped overcome challenges like declining traffic or flat sales on Amazon. OLV's impact on increasing glance views, revenue, and generating a "halo effect" across product catalogs. The importance of keeping creatives fresh to avoid stagnation. Best-performing audience types so far: in-market and lifestyle audiences drive awareness and new-to-brand purchases. Early success testing retargeting and AMC (Amazon Marketing Cloud) lookalike audiences for higher click-through and page view rates. Value of demographic layering, even though it narrows reach, it lowers cost per action and improves efficiency. Lower costs and less competition compared to streaming/connected TV ads. Easier creative requirements: Repurposing existing sponsored brand videos can minimize barriers to entry. OLV fills a vital role in the funnel, driving external traffic before consumers start their Amazon search, improving overall channel performance. How to fund OLV: Testing with incremental budgets where possible, or reallocating spend from less efficient campaign buckets. Examples of positive results even from modest testing budgets (as low as $2,000/month). Why focusing solely on ROAS is limiting; OLV's bigger impact shows up in incremental lifts in overall traffic and sales. Utilizing AMC Path to Purchase reports to demonstrate OLV's role in the customer journey. Rising success with vertical video formats and Amazon's support for new creative options in OLV.

The job of an EV battery is unforgiving. If its performance slips too far — say, lost acceleration or range — it's probably off to the recycling heap. That's even though it may have plenty of usable life, if only for something less demanding than powering a vehicle. Grid storage is theoretically a gentler job, involving slower discharging and more careful management. Still, repurposing isn't easy. It requires dealing with a mishmash of various makes, models, and levels of quality. And it means competing against the falling price of new, purpose-built storage systems. But a few companies have said they've figured it out, including Redwood Materials, which supplied a second-life data center microgrid this year. So how does second-life storage on the grid actually work? In this episode, Shayle talks to Colin Campbell, chief technology officer of battery recycler Redwood Materials. Colin explains how, in just the past year, the company has found cost-effective ways to repurpose batteries before recycling them. Shayle and Colin cover topics like: What has changed to make repurposing profitable, including better software management and high-volume, low-cost supply Why, for Redwood, second-life batteries only need a short lifespan to be worth it Why second-life systems are especially well-suited for long-duration storage What it takes to compete with the falling prices of new LFP systems Resources: Latitude Media: Crusoe and Redwood Materials are powering a data center with old EV batteries Latitude Media: Millions of EV batteries could retire on solar farms Latitude Media: The challenging economics of battery recycling Credits: Hosted by Shayle Kann. It stirs up so many emotions- anger, grief, and frustration for everything autism has taken from my son. Dear Syngap, It's me again. You'd think after all this time, we'd have some kind of understanding. But we don't. We never will. You barged into our lives uninvited, turned our world upside down, and refused to leave. You've taught me lessons I never asked for, dragged us down roads we never wanted to travel. You've humbled me, broken me, enraged me. I've cried because of you. Screamed into the silence. Begged the universe for answers it refuses to give. I've celebrated victories that should have been simple, ordinary things—but with you lurking in the shadows, nothing is ever simple. If I'm being honest, I hate you. I hate what you've done to my son. I hate that you've taken things from him that should have been his without question—his voice, his strength, his ease of movement, his peace. One day, he climbs like he was born to conquer mountains. The next, he struggles to take a step. You're a thief, Syngap. You steal his vision, rob him of his muscle tone, drain his energy until even smiling feels like work. You wrap yourself around his body, his mind, his very existence, and no matter how hard I fight, you never let go. You make him miserable. And I hate you for it. You turn his nights into a battlefield, his sleep stolen by seizures, restlessness, and the chaos you planted in his brain. You keep his words locked inside, hidden in a place I can't reach. And God, how I wish I could reach them. How I wish I could hear his thoughts, understand the words he wants so badly to say. Instead, I watch. I listen. I hold him when the frustration turns to tears, when his body betrays him, when he fights a battle most will never see. People don't see what I see. They don't hear the cries in the middle of the night or witness the exhaustion in his body. They don't see the war raging inside him. And me? I've been called crazy, overprotective, dramatic. But I don't care. I'll wear those labels like armor. Because as long as my son is fighting, I will fight harder. You tried to take so much from us. You tried to steal my marriage, tried to break my family apart, tried to strip away our joy. You've knocked us down, over and over again. But listen to me, Syngap: you will never have us. And here's the strangest thing. For all the hell you've put us through, you've also given me things I never expected. You've made me stronger than I ever thought possible. You've forced me to fight with a fierceness I didn't know I had. You've shown me how to love deeper, to celebrate what others overlook, to appreciate moments most take for granted. You take and you take—but somehow, you also build. You break, yet somehow, you make us unbreakable. But hear me loud and clear: you don't win. Tomorrow, my son will wake up, and despite you, he will rise. He will smile. He will fight. He will accomplish things you never thought he could. And I? I'll be there, standing beside him, fighting for him, daring you to try and stop us. You don't get the final say, Syngap. Not today. Not ever. My son is more than you. And you have underestimated his mother. Sincerely, A Syngap Momma
