In this interview, Kate Mulqueen talks to Dan Rath, the co-founder of Open Canvas. Open Canvas is a social enterprise that supports artists who have been disadvantaged through homelessness, mental illness or other forms of adversity. Here Dan talks about what inspired him and his wife Jessica to start Open Canvas, and how Open Canvas provides mentoring, art supplies and a platform for artists to showcase their work and gain an income. In April, Fed Square will be launching ‘Figures of Love' – the first of two Open Canvas partnered exhibitions.
One of the things that has made lockdown life hard is the inability to sing together; it’s one way the church family encourage and exhort one another in our relationship with God. Here Dan and Dara, one of the King’s Worship Team leaders, share their thoughts on why singing our worship to God is important, and how to keep at it in these times.
Many people are feeling “flat” these days! How can Jesus help us? Here Dan looks at how God’s word explains the roots of and cures for this pandemic of flatness we’re feeling.
When David was facing a time of despair, anxiety, and incredible pressure, he found strength in God (1 Samuel 30). Here Dan picks out the where, who, and what of David's story to help us seek God in unprecedented times.
So nice we did it twice. What? I say, so nice was Vice that we had to speak to Dan Emery twice. Actually, Dan's episode was recorded all at one time a few weeks prior when myself and sometimes co-host good buddy Fred sat down to grill Dan on his life and his experiences, and as we heard (and you should have too!) from last week Dan has a great story to share and the gift of gab to back it up! Here Dan takes through his last couple years in the Hospital Security department, his eventual jump to a more comfortable role in Housekeeping and how his now house of teen boys and girls are changing, while keeping up with it all and being a devoted husband and loving dad. This is Part II of Dan Emery, but surely not where the story ends! Since Dan has nothing to promote, this is where I will plug Nobodies Radio Station: Heavy Rock Radio Nobodies Radio Station: Heavy Rock Radio: https://live365.com/station/Nobodies-Radio-Station--Heavy--a54739 Music featured on this episode by Matthew Johnston, featuring his original song 'One Last Time' from his latest album 'Son, Pray' available now! https://soundcloud.com/user-234321408
The idea behind this show is pretty simple: A university campus is a destination for all kinds of interesting people, so why not invite some of these folks out to brunch, where we’ll have an informal conversation about their work, and then we’ll turn those brunches into a podcast? It’s a tough job, but somebody has to do it.Dan Hinshaw is a professor emeritus of surgery at the University of Michigan and a consultant in palliative medicine at the University of Michigan Geriatrics Center. The author or coauthor of some 80 papers in peer-reviewed journals and publications, he spent the fall 2018 semester in residence at Notre Dame’s Institute for Advanced Study. Here Dan discusses the project he undertook there, examining how thoughtful engagement with the reality that none of us will live forever has the potential to help us find meaning in our own lives as well as transform the way we see each other, the aging process, and the delivery of healthcare. And did we mention he's really good with metaphors?
