Junk Food Dinner returns with three very random, very different films to wet your weird cinema whistle!Up first, low-budget Baltimore filmmaker Don Dohler brings us a tale of a reanimated corpse that moves into a suburban neighborhood and starts giving music lessons (and also killing people) in Fiend from 1980. Then, Dean Cameron stars in a classic slobs vs snobs tale set in a ski resort in Ski School from 1991. This R-rated comedy was a staple of late-night cable TV in the 90's but does it hold up? We find out. Finally, we get a rare look into the world of early 90's Japanese dance, fashion and music in the 1993 V-Cinema straight-to-video flick Heartbreaker: With Love from a Bullet. All this plus Final Destination chat, more Sinners chat, Kevin's adventures at the theater, Norm!, Looney Tunes blu-rays and so much more! Breath in peace for yourself - as you breath out peace for others through this guided meditation led by Julie Potiker. She completes the meditation with the poem, "Light Show", by James Crews."Light Show", by James Crews. Before supper, I called upstairs to him:Come see the light show. And withouta moment's hesitation, he rushed downto the basement to stand next to meon the other side of a pool of sunstretching from the one small windowin the door across the concrete floor. We watched in silence as light movedthrough the leaves of the cherry tree, mingling with shadows, rippling andshifting like the mind when you goquiet enough to isolate each thought—ever-changing, not made of anythingyou can touch. We stood captivatedby that puddle of late light, whichseemed to ask: When was the last timeyou dropped everything and danced?-James CrewsFind out more about using mindfulness in everyday life through Julie's books, "SNAP: From Calm to Chaos", and "Life Falls Apart, But You Don't have To: Mindful Methods for Staying Calm in the Midst of Chaos". There are otherpaths that mimic life. But I want to exhalewonder. Let awe arise like phytoplanktonbasking in the sun. This is one of them FREAKY TALES. The directing team behind Captain Marvel (yep) returns from director jail with a retro anthology movie called FREAKY TALES, and since Matt is only human and likes cool poster art, he dove at the chance to review this little oddity of a movie. Use your breath to focus on what you need right now - through this guided meditation led by Julie Potiker. She completes the meditation with her poem, "11 minutes".11 minutes, by Julie PotikerThe Karmine Line, invisible. But real enough to draw a boundarybetween us and what's beyond. At 62 miles the air gives up its gripand Blue Origin, that sleek silver wish, carries six women through suborbital space into weightlessness.11 minutes, a life can turn inside that.11 minutes, enough to change how the soul spells home. And when they landed they brought space back in their eyes.I watched video of them landinghow they must have looked at the trees, the grass, and each other differentlyas if the whole world had shifted just slightly toward kindness.I wish I could go, feel the silence, see the curve of the earth with my own eyes. But that journey isn't mine. Not this lifetime.Instead, I breathe into the knowing. We are made of stardust, bones, breath, memory already part of the vastness, already connected to everything.Space isn't only up there. It lives in here.-Julie PotikerFind out more about using mindfulness in everyday life through Julie's books, "SNAP: From Calm to Chaos", and "Life Falls Apart, But You Don't have To: Mindful Methods for Staying Calm in the Midst of Chaos". Join Julie Potiker as she leads you through this Classic Metta Meditation. She completes the meditation with her poem, "March on Meadowbrook Road".March, on Meadowbrook Road, by Julie Potiker.Down the way from the old Triumph mine, Narrow-leaf Willow, a rust-colored and wild, leans into the breeze.Rubber Rabbit-brush waits in stillness, not yet yellow - there's room here forwhat takes time. Basin Wild Rye a parchment scrap from last year's book, whispers its end in a papery rush.Between patches of snow, soft ground starts to look like something breathing. My boots sink low - just enough to remind me there's life below, waiting to rise, quiet as roots, steady and slow, without need for applause.Chickadees gossip - Black-capped, mountain, in stereo tones stitched through the trees, voices bright. A Northern Flicker taps at Aspens, bare as bones. Does it know the language that flows beneath this frost? Roots that spill messages deep, a network unseen holding hands in sleep. And I stand there, Stetson tipped just right, letting the sun do what it does best - warm my cheek. It says: you're here and so is spring. And that's enough. More than enough, I think.-Julie PotikerFind out more about using mindfulness in everyday life through Julie's books, "SNAP: From Calm to Chaos", and "Life Falls Apart, But You Don't have To: Mindful Methods for Staying Calm in the Midst of Chaos". She completes the meditation with the poem, "The Return of Hearts and Minds", by James Crews. The Return of Hearts and Minds, by James CrewsI wake before dawn this morningto live inside the quiet, to feaston the dark bread of the possible. The house breathes on its own, thoughno footsteps stamp the floor above,no doors slam shut, and nothingstirs outside except for the maskedraccoon, hungry eyes glowing green.I know who I am in these small hours, and watch for signs that daylight isfinally coming, spreading like a blueink that brightens the sky instead ofdarkening it. Relax into this meditation -- as you breathe in compassion. Julie Potiker completes the meditation with her poem, "Joy has Four Legs and Doesn't Ask for Permission".Joy has Four Legs and Doesn't Ask for Permission, by Julie PotikerNo one told them about warsor the price of eggs.Mutts and pure breeds of every flavorrun without hesitation,as if the world has always been this open, this forgiving.Wellington leaps and sprints with every dog chasing a ballMadeline rolls her old bones in the wet sand. One black lab charges the waves with a Frisbee in his mouth, another digs fiercely – sand flying above his head -both entirely certain of their purpose.Just now. Just wind. Just sand and saltand the miracle of tails wagging.Nothing in them resists the day.The heaviness in my chest loosens,This is how healing looks—wild, sandy, and grinning.-Julie PotikerFind out more about using mindfulness in everyday life through Julie's books, "SNAP: From Calm to Chaos", and "Life Falls Apart, But You Don't have To: Mindful Methods for Staying Calm in the Midst of Chaos". Please join me as I sit down with Anna Rahe, founder and CEO of GST Body and fascia-based movement coach, to discuss: what is fascia? her brilliant insights on how it functions and how it's the primary way to interface with ourselves her wisdom on how fascia is our superhero suit an explanation of biotensegrity the gift of touch as a love language and so much more! Welcome to The Healing Place Podcast! I am your host, Teri Wellbrock. You can listen in on Pandora, iTunes, Blubrry, Spotify, iHeartRadio, Stitcher, Deezer, Google Podcasts, Amazon Music, and more, or directly on my website at www.teriwellbrock.com/podcasts/. You can also catch our insightful interview on YouTube. Bio: Anna Rahe At 18 Anna Rahe felt 80. She was trapped inside her young body unable to find answers from every elite professional she sought for help. She became hyper focused on finding answers to her own physical pain and complicated health issues. Anna was driven by the desire to feel young, healthy and vital in her body. This instigated her to buck the medical and fitness systems and go rogue. Anna took a 25 year deep dive into the body's most complex and holistic system and along the way created a revolutionary new science based solution to health and wellness, the ability to use motion for much more than fitness- to remodel, recover, and restore function, health and vitality for the human body. Certified in Pilates, Fascial Fitness with additional extensive study in the fields of physics, biomechanics and myriad movement methods (Yoga, Gyrotonics, Bartineiff, Laban, Applied Kinesiology, Tai Chi, Qigong) as well as manual body work techniques (Barral, Rolfing, Reiki, Rosen Method, dry needling). Anna created GST from the best of all her studies filling in the gaps from her own discoveries and research. Anna is a member of the Fascia Research Society. As the founder and CEO of GST Body, Anna has spoken about holistic body care through fascia around the world, partnered with top athletes, surgeons, physicians, and celebrities, and has been featured in various publications, from Shape to Elle, Net-a-Porter to The Wall Street Journal. Throughout her career Anna has had the pleasure of working with and helping over ten thousand people find lasting change by restoring their bodies and reclaiming an ageless vital life. Julie Potiker competes her meditation with the poem, Prayer, by James Crews."Prayer", by James CrewsI ask for just the slightest shiftin my thinking, the kindest siftingof my busy mind so only wonderand peace are left behind. So thatas I walk in sleet on this spring morningI can see even these muddy rutsmade by careless trucks on the forest trailas harbors of miracle, knowing they willfill with enough snow melt and rainfor tadpoles to swim in come summer, until that sunlit instant when they feelthe flexing of legs in the water beneath them, and leap out onto the ground, their bodieshaving decided, by instinct alone, to besoft and alive in this world.-Prayer, by James Crews.Find out more about using mindfulness in everyday life through Julie's books, "SNAP: From Calm to Chaos", and "Life Falls Apart, But You Don't have To: Mindful Methods for Staying Calm in the Midst of Chaos". She refused to accept a life dictated by limitations and instead, she embarked on a quest to discover the secrets of holistic healing with practices like Evolutionary Spinal Maintenance (EDGU) and breathwork. Bong Joon-Ho spent hundreds of millions of Warner Bros' money on a very expensive movie about clones. Let's discuss it! Joining us this week is friend-of-the-show and fellow physical media guy, Kevin from The Reel for Real. Go give him a follow and check out his reviews. We go into full-on spoilers for Mickey 17 -- you've been warned. Along the way, we discuss the rarity of seeing something so strange getting such a ginormous budget, try to figure out what the hell Mark Ruffalo is doing, and lament the days when our movie presidents were actual characters and not just Trump clones. We also bring back our physical media segment, SHOW ME YOUR DISC, MAN! and talk tariffs that may affect the prices of our physical media blu-rays and 4K's in the future. Sad stuff. Scrub ahead to 14:50 if you want to get right to the Mickey 17 review, but you'll miss us getting a fun update on Tom from MySpace. What's he been up to? Wanna be on the show? It's the movie that nearly ended John Carpenter's career! Come back with us to 1992, as we discuss Memoirs of an Invisible Man, the monster movie flop that starred one of Hollywood's most legendary jerks, Chevy Chase. Join us as we delve into the film and try to decide which SNL character is a dead ringer for Chevy in this movie. We also discover this film's strange connection to Halloween III: Season of the Witch, as well as some behind-the-scenes drama involving its stars. Oh, and Matt won't shut the hell up about the classic Universal Monsters! It's good to be back to normal. (Sorry, Billy Zane!) If you want to get right to the main review, you can scrub ahead to 8:18. But if you do that, you'll miss a fun little stroll down memory lane as Matt recounts an embarrassing lunch story involving Chinese food, two fat guys, and one very tiny table. Wanna be on the show?
