As we begin season 2, myself and my oldest brother Robert Shipman III take a walk down memory lane with one of our oldest friends Kaleb Cowart. We discuss playing baseball and our development to playing at higher more competitive levels. Kaleb gives advice to younger aspiring ball players and we take time to appreciate some of the most prominent people that led us to the success we had both on and off the baseball field. Enjoy!
Baseball's back! Well, spring training is anyhow. Nevertheless, we are effervescent. That, paired with the Manny Machado signing, lifts a weight off our shoulders as we shoot the breeze about Kaleb Cowart (who was reclaimed by the Angels shortly after we recorded), whether the Padres and the pitch clock have overstayed their welcome, Albert Pujols' ascendence to the highest home run heights, and the glut of David Fletchers (including the Angels' second baseman, who went 0-2, K in his first spring training appearance) that have flooded our inbox. On a wet and wild episode 14, we consider starting a Kenny/Ken themed podcast, forget the existence of AJ Burnett, and compare Ben Revere to a binary star. We're back with a new Wednesday episode after a fun win in Oakland. We start out by talking about all of the potential hype we are probably going to hear about Kaleb Cowart switching to 2nd base, and how you should not fall into the trap. Then we drool over how amazing Ty Buttrey is (as we have been doing every podcast), but we also talk about why he legitimately has a shot to be our closer of the future. Then we hop over to talking about two players currently in the organization who the Angels are seemingly turning into 2-way players in Bo Way and Jared Walsh. Lucas talks about what the future could potentially hold for both of those players, and what we should expect out of them. All that for HUMP DAY! Learn more about your ad choices. Next to Mike Trout, it can be argued that Andrelton Simmons is the most important player on the Angels' roster. With his trip to the disabled list due to an ankle sprain, the Angels must find a way to win games without their gold glove shortstop. Not only is Simmons considered the best defensive player in the game, over the past two seasons, Andrelton Simmons has been a force at the plate, racking up a .330 average this season and OPS north of .800. The general consensus seems to be that the shortstop will be able to play as soon as his 10-day trip ends, though no clear timetable has been released. In his place, Zack Cozart will takeover the main shortstop duties, with some combination of Luis Valbuena, Jefry Marte, and Kaleb Cowart at third base. Perhaps David Fletcher may get a call from Salt Lake? Thursday's episode also features the Gear Grinder, focusing on Mike Scioscia's most recent usage of the bullpen and how his decisions ultimately paid off. Where's the love for the Halos' longtime manager? Tune in! Don't forget to follow the show on Twitter @LockedOnAngels and subscribe to the podcast on iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify, and Google Play.
