The Athletic's Keith Law was on KNBR recently and he criticized the San Francisco Giants' apparent plan to start Marco Luciano at shortstop in 2024, going so far as to call the plan "reckless." Does Law have a point? Are the SF Giants setting Luciano up for failure? Or is Law perhaps not the ultimate authority on the matter? “Most people carry scars that others can’t see or understand.” Those deeply honest words came from Major League Baseball player Andrelton Simmons, who opted out of the end of the 2020 regular season due to mental health struggles. Reflecting on his decision, Simmons felt he needed to share his story to encourage others facing similar challenges and to remind others to show compassion. Invisible scars are those deep hurts and wounds that can’t be seen but still cause very real pain and suffering. In Psalm 6, David wrote of his own deep struggle—penning painfully raw and honest words. He was “in agony” (v. 2) and “deep anguish” (v. 3). He was “worn out” from groaning, and his bed was drenched with tears (v. 6). While David doesn’t share the cause of his suffering, many of us can relate to his pain. We can also be encouraged by the way David responded to his pain. In the midst of his overwhelming suffering, David cried out to God. Honestly pouring out his heart, David prayed for healing (v. 2), rescue (v. 4), and mercy (v. 9). Even with the question “How long?” (v. 3) lingering over his situation, David remained confident that God “heard [his] cry for mercy” (v. 9) and would act in His time (v. 10). Because of who our God is, there is always hope.

Alker rallied from four shots behind with a 63 to win the Senior PGA Championship. That’s his third victory this year on the PGA Tour Champions and his first major. The 50-year-old from New Zealand was part of a three-way tie involving Stephen Ames and Bernhard Langer. They all made bogeys at some point on the back nine. Alker made a pair of key birdies that allowed him to take control. The win gets Alker into his first PGA Championship next year at Oak Hill. The Cardinals signed Gladney in March after he was found not guilty in Dallas County, Texas. Tennis – French Open – Swiatek drops set, but advances Iga Swiatek finally dropped a set on Monday, but the top women’s seed still advanced to the French Open quarterfinals.  Swiatek had won 20 consecutive sets before dropping a first set tiebreak to Zheng Qinwen of China. She lost just two games after that and took the last two sets, 6-0, 6-2 for her 32nd straight match victory.  Swiatek’s quarterfinal opponent will be 11th-seeded Jessica Pegula of the United States. EPL – Chelsea sold for $3.2 billion Roman Abramovich has completed the sale of the British soccer team Chelsea to a consortium fronted by Los Angeles Dodgers part-owner Todd Boehly.  The $3.2 sale price is the highest ever for a sports team.  Abramovich owned the team for 19 years and was forced to sell the club after being sanctioned over his links to Russian President Vladimir Putin following the invasion of Ukraine. The 26-year-old Cuban was scratched from the spring training finale against San Diego on Tuesday. There is speculation that the NCAA might see if the women’s tournament can be marketed as its own event. One estimate is that it could be sold for $100 million. NCAA President Mark Emmert says all options are on the table. NCAAFB – Kelly on leaving Irish for LSU: ‘We were on different paths’ Brian Kelly is settled in at LSU after 12 seasons at Notre Dame. Kelly tells The Associated Press he wanted to be at a place where he had all “the resources to win a national championship.” He says he was prepared to spend the rest of his career at Notre Dame. But he says they ended up on different paths on how to get there. He says he is fine with the change. LSU gave the 60-year-old coach a 10-year, $95 million contract. Golf – The Masters – Im leads, Woods plays well Tiger Woods played pretty well at the Masters on Thursday. Sungjae Im was a little better.
