He opens by noting that the Washington Nationals had already begun trading away pieces in the days before, a familiar pattern for a club that has repeatedly sold off talent once a playoff push stops looking realistic, and that the San Diego Padres spent the weekend as one of the league's biggest question marks, with starter Michael King's turn in the rotation pushed from Sunday to Monday amid persistent trade speculation.
