May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month and the Department of Transportation shared safety tips for both motorcycle operators and drivers. But there are a lot of misconceptions people have about motorcycles, sharing the roads with them and detecting a licensed motorcycle operator from non-licensed, non-registered riders. We get insight from our motorcycle expert, Luis Valbuena, who is also a local firefighter, CPR instructor, and a man of all things safety. IMAGE CREDIT: iStock / Getty Images Plus

We continue to talk more 2006, because there is so much to talk about. This season the Indians went from a solid starting second baseman and a young backup to having to acquire Josh Barfield, Luis Valbuena, and Mark Derosa all in an attempt to find the answer, which they would not find until Jason Kipnis. They would keep compounding their errors and finding no answer as they watched Brandon Phillips blossom in state. We look at the 2006 draft where the Indians had 6 picks in the top 101 and ended up with virtually nothing to show for it. They would go on to later acquire many, many players from that class in trades and free agency. While they did get two solid players in day three, the one future star talent they drafted would be used in a trade for a second baseman along with the only player they go when they traded future star Brandon Phillips to the Reds.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Next to Mike Trout, it can be argued that Andrelton Simmons is the most important player on the Angels' roster. With his trip to the disabled list due to an ankle sprain, the Angels must find a way to win games without their gold glove shortstop. Not only is Simmons considered the best defensive player in the game, over the past two seasons, Andrelton Simmons has been a force at the plate, racking up a .330 average this season and OPS north of .800. The general consensus seems to be that the shortstop will be able to play as soon as his 10-day trip ends, though no clear timetable has been released. In his place, Zack Cozart will takeover the main shortstop duties, with some combination of Luis Valbuena, Jefry Marte, and Kaleb Cowart at third base. Perhaps David Fletcher may get a call from Salt Lake?Thursday's episode also features the Gear Grinder, focusing on Mike Scioscia's most recent usage of the bullpen and how his decisions ultimately paid off. The Angel fanbase seems to take Mike Scioscia for granted. With just 1 playoff appearance in the past 8 seasons, many are ready to move on from a man who just picked up his 1,600th win in MLB.Yes, some of his bullpen decisions drive us wild. Yes, some lineup choices leave us scratching our heads at times. The contact play with a runner on third still drives me insane at times. But Mike Scioscia just passed Hall of Fame manager Tommy Lasorda in total wins, and he did it in less games and the same amount of playoff appearances. When Scioscia's brand of aggressive baseball goes into full speed, it can be some of the most aesthetically pleasing baseball to watch. For today, let's all admire the work that Mike Scioscia has put in to a franchise that was an afterthought in the league before he arrived.Wednesday also means we take a look around the AL West to see where the Halos stand, reflecting on a bounce back win in Detroit that saw positive contributions from Ian Kinsler, Luis Valbuena, and Martin Maldonado.Don't forget to follow the show on Twitter @LockedOnAngels and subscribe to the podcast on iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify, and Google Play. With the Angels continuing to struggle on their current 10-game road trip, they looked to their supposed ace to halt the woes. Garrett Richards failed to buck that trend in New York.Struggling with the command of his fastball, Richards consistently got behind in the count, allowing the Yankee hitters to stay patient and let things unravel. Richards failed to work out of the 3rd inning, adding to his long list of poor starts against New York. Looking back over his starts this season, there are only a handful of quality starts, let alone outings that define an ace of a Major League rotation.Tuesday also means it's time for the Down on the Farm Report. This week, the focus centers on the holes at the Major League level, defined by the struggles of Kole Calhoun, Ian Kinsler, and Luis Valbuena. Can David Fletcher stay hot in a potential call-up to Anaheim? Maybe Matt Thaiss is the solution at first base? Is there a dark horse candidate to fill any of these roles? Yesterday, we discussed if Mike Trout should move up to the leadoff spot in the order due to the struggles of Ian Kinsler at the plate. Those concerns were not exactly quelled in the first game of a 2 game set in Colorado.Ian Kinsler had a tough 0-4 day, dropping his batting average to a season low .187 on the season. Up until Tuesday's game, it hadn't appeared to hamper the Angels' offensive output, largely due to the hot streak of Trout and Andrelton Simmons, and the turnaround of Justin Uption. But many veterans in the Halo lineup have failed to contribute consistently at the level they are capable of, such as Ian Kinsler, Kole Calhoun, Luis Valbuena, and others. Also this Wednesday, a journey through the entire American League on Wild West Wednesday, taking a look at where the Angels stand with the rest of the circuit. Coming off of a 1-5 week at home in Anaheim, the outlook seemed bleak for the Angels heading to Houston to take on the defending champions, winners of six straight coming in. Boy, did things change rather quickly...Tyler Skaggs performed brilliantly, effectively changing speeds, locating his fastball and changeup down in the zone, inducing 10 groundball outs and dazzling the crowd with his hammer of a curveball. Offensively, the Angels scratched enough at-bats together to push across two runs, mainly due to the quarter that we chastised yesterday. Justin Upton, Luis Valbuena, Zack Cozart, and Kole Calhoun all had their fingerprints over this win, and it could not have come at a better time. A heartwarming story also came out of the victory, as Justin Anderson made his Major League debut in the 8th inning, coming on in relief of Skaggs and pitching masterfully, striking out Carlos Correa with the tying run on base to get out of the jam. Winning cures everything, and it's incredibly difficult to not be amped about Game 1 in Houston. Shohei Ohtani toes the rubber Tuesday night, and could conceivably give the Angels an incredible series victory.Don't forget to follow the show on Twitter @LockedOnAngels and subscribe to the podcast on iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify, and Google Play. For much of his career, it's been Mike Trout and a bunch of replacement-level players. This past week for the Angels, it was much of the same.Much of the starting rotation failed to pitch deep into games, such as Tyler Skaggs, Shohei Ohtani, and Andrew Heaney. As a result, the bullpen was forced to log heavy innings all week. Toss in a struggling offensive performance, and you have a disaster week for the Halos, losing 5 of 6 games. A week in which Luis Valbuena, Justin Upton, Zack Cozart, and Kole Calhoun combined to go 3-70 at the plate. Yikes...Studs and Duds of the weekend also makes its Monday return before we preview a big series against the Houston Astros. All of the pitching matchups favor the defending champions very heavily, so it could be another tough week for the Angels. We'll just have to watch it unfold.Don't forget to follow the show on Twitter @LockedOnAngels and subscribe to the podcast on iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify, and Google Play. After scoring a run in the sixth to tie the game, the Indians forged ahead with two runs in the seventh. Luis Valbuena singled to start and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. With two outs, Brantley sneaked a single through the right side of the infield… The Twins lost that game, 3-1. Cleveland taught us about what sacrifice really means. Sometimes, we think of it as an act of losing, as surrender, as a penalty for a mistake or worse. Sacrifice is also a means of getting the runner home.
