3rd Wheel Podcast portrays an unfiltered navigation of life between three best friends from opposite sides of the country. Inspired by culture, faith & society, this show opens the door to ideas and perspectives that leave you questioning the world around you.
After missing a week, the kings of quarantine are back in a BIG way. In the longest episode in a while, Josh Blaskow hops on the podcast. Josh Crooker was having some major tech difficulties unfortunately so he wasnt able to join, so Josh was traded for Josh! Blaskow turns out to be Jordan’s best friend and roommate so naturally we get the whole low down of the history of their friendship. Then the boys run down their top 4 albums of all time. The kings of quarantine continue with our good pal David. There’s some serious catching up to do as we haven’t seen him for months. We talk about how he’s holding up at home protecting his mental health with some serious rabbit trails along the way. We talk about his social media use, his health and his faith. Then we get into his standom of 1975 and feel out his music taste. This guy is such an interesting and genuine hang. This week’s quarantine king was our former guest and good pal Brenden Zap. This dude is an incredible hang. He’s the ultimate movie/music buff, without the ego. We get into films (not movies) and music. He also shares some great perspective on concerts and music festivals (remember those?) BRENDEN: @BRENDENZAP INSTAGRAM: @3RDWHEELPOD TWITTER: @3RDWHEELPOD
The guys continue our series of catching up with our buds by having Marck hop on! Marck is a certified music nerd and we love it. Always a good time breaking down music from the past and present with this guy. The laughs are uncontrollable and the nostalgia is real.
We are all stuck inside but it ain’t stopping us from catching up with our good homies along the way. So today we have our good friend & OG pod guest Kevin on to talk how he’s experienced this wild past month & what he’s doing to stay busy. Side/important note: this episode, after some technical issues we were forced to use the backup audio of our conversation with Kevin. So we sincerely apologize that our audio won’t be as crystal clear as usual. Please forgive us. We thought it was important to put out the conversation out of respect for Kevin & in the interest of keeping y’all entertained as usual! Also HUGE shoutout to our guy Garrett who has to deal with the technical side of things among so much more. Guy is the real deal that keeps this machine running!
The boys are comfortably sitting in self isolation like the rest of you (hopefully) so they discuss plans for the future to pump out the content for y’all. Today we are giving you Netflix/Postcast/Music recommendations. Plus Jordan debates if he should be getting dressed to work from home.
Live from self isolation! The boys continue to share how the Corona Virus has effected our lives.
The boys are feelin extra loose on this one. Just hit record and magic (lol) ensued. Josh got on morning radio and you know we had to talk Covid-19. This episode was recorded literally moments before shit really hit the fan, the evening of March 11 when the world collectively said “oh, this is real life”. Jordan finishes off with stream of consciousness after some thought on the whole thing.
The third wheel fellas have known Scott for a long long time. So naturally when he releases his first ever solo release under the moniker “Mazz Mitchell” he comes to third wheel first. We get into the process of his writing and what’s coming up in the future for him. Also, naturally it’s a bunch of music talk! His new single “Cold Water” is out now. Go check it out! We asked. You answered. So you asked. Then we answered. Q/A part 3 is here! Josh is on holidays so you get 2/3 of us. Jordan and Garrett finally record in the same room in front of a special live audience.
It’s ****letstalk day and the boys feel extra grumpy. They can’t seem to accept people trying to do nice things. The grumpiness theme continues as Josh isn’t willing to accept the rise of beyond meat.
Select few stand up! Podcast favorite band We Are The City joins the show. These dudes are insanely talented and graced the podcast with over an hour of interview goodness. They were super candid about their spirituality, their music/films and the very personal behind the scenes inspirations behind their art. If you’re a fan of this band this is a must listen. Interview was done by fans of the band FOR the fans of the band.
2020 vision bayyyybeeeee! The boys are coming in spicy off the holidays with just catching up. They TRY to talk about their holidays but get a little sidetracked.. for 50mins.. Also, big announcement at the end of the show, Jordan is stepping down.
Hockey bhad’s unite! This one turns into a full on hockey centric episode. The boys talk minor hockey stuff, making it to the show, the drink sweeping the nation, and of course, Don Cherry.
In today’s episode, Tooth & Nail records artist Tyson Motsenbocker joins us! He’s a legit artist and debatably an even more legit dude. He talks with us about the new record, some of his older music & much much more. He’s such an articulate communicator in his music and it shines through in our sit down with him. Also, apparently he makes for a pretty good pickup line.
Jordan ditched the podcast this week, so Josh and Garrett found a special replacement for this episode. Grab your Timmies or grab your Starbucks! The homie Brenden Zap comes on to talk coffee culture, first experiences with great coffee and inclusion around high end coffee. *Sips Coffee*
Garrett hits record without the rest of the gang knowing and ends up capturing a great, off the cuff conversation on purity culture and how its affected us as a group. This ends up leading into more conversation about other things regarding church and how to protect/guide our future children through it all. Needless to say - Josh needs a beer after we chat about it...
Josh tells the boys about going to see his favorite band’s live show and was sad to see his man crush didn’t go. Then, the fellas discuss Kanye West’s recent controversial album diving into their feelings on the music as well as the horrendous social media takes. CHICK-FIL-A!!!!
Josh got a new haircut. It reminds everyone of a mega pastor. The boys get stopped by the cops for driving a stolen vehicle. Garrett swears at an innocent pawn shop employee. Finally, Josh declares he’s done with Facebook, and it’s all Trudeau’s fault.
Road trip recap! The three guys headed down to NYC a few weeks back for a little bachelor party for the kid Joshie. They recap the trip & tell some stories. Then, we have some very special guests on who joined in on the trip to speak a few words about Josh in honor of him beginning married life! Buckle up for this absolute bro fest!
The (very sober) fella’s bring y’all an update on how sober october is going so far. For one of them, not so well and for the other two.. well they are $50 richer.
The legend. The myth. The man who connected the three boys. Arnel joins the podcast! He’s the owner of Royal Studio in Edmonton and he’s open for business. He talks the humble beginnings of the studio (you’ll never guess where it started) and where he’s taken the business to now (hint: he quit his dayjob).
Put those damn beers away! Sober october is HERE! The boys plan the month out and make things interesting with an added health challenge as well as putting money on the table.
LA’s Randy Urbanski joins Garrett and Jordan for an exciting conversation amidst working on a huge top secret project. First off, Garrett and Randy reminisce about the old days when they worked together in the studio. Then, they get into what it means to be a big name recording engineer including day to day life, long hours, and where it all started. Randy also tells us about projects he’s worked on and what he's most proud of. Garrett couldn't help himself but to ask some technical recording questions too. Randy was an absolute treat and pulled the curtain back on some of music's biggest stars by sharing some amazing stories.
The boys judge a youtuber, analyze a manhunt, review a movie, share their top 5 actors and Garrett fears raising a child.
Continuing the series of podcasts talking to two people who do/have identified as part of the lgtbq community and also identify as christians. We talk about the dichotomy between the two and the differences in opition on if homosexuality is indeed a sin, or if you can synonymously be gay and a christian. Whether you’re a person of faith or not, these stories will make you think about what it means to find common ground with others around you by discovering their stories and where they came from. Parker Graciously joins the guys on a very revealing sit down of how he grew up in the church & what it was like to come out as gay. He talks about the research he’s done to lead him to the point where he loves God & has accepted his sexuality.
Introducing a series of podcasts talking to two people who do/have identified as part of the lgtbq community and also identify as christians. We talk about the dichotomy between the two and the differences in opition on if homosexuality is indeed a sin, or if you can synonymously be gay and a christian. Whether you’re a person of faith or not, these stories will make you think about what it means to find common ground with others around you by discovering their stories and where they came from. As a long time friend of Jordan, Kat and him have been through it all together. She and the boys go over how she was raised and her family life, go into what it was like to explore her sexuality after finding herself attracted to a female, and how she's changed now through her relationship with God.
BIG news time. Gary’s going to be a papa! The other two boys are going to be uncles. We talk post maritals, baby names, and all that good stuff. Then Josh shares his frustration on when the hell his favorite band is going to release new music. Jordan talks about going to a show recently and had a few surprises. Also, the boys give an update about our fashion and running challenges.
What’s with all the filthy, unwholesome language? A question from some listeners that’s plagued the guys since episode one. So, they clear the air on if they think cussing THAT big of a deal and why that is. They also explain, if you’re confused, why it’s even worth talking about.
The boys give an update on health stuff which leads to the question: beers after running? Good or bad? Then, Gary makes an announcement on a challenge he’s undertaking.
The fellas spent so much time answering the first round of questioning, they had to break it into two. This is round 2. Naturally, the questions happened to be on the deep and religious side, so fair warning! It turns out to be quite silly but also interesting and you might be surprised at a lot of perspectives that are shared. *please note: The Third Wheel Podcast doesn’t claim to be religious scholars or professionals. Just answering questions to the best of their ability and from their personal perspectives and beliefs*
Get a peek in at the boys just shootin’ the breeze over a couple “italian beverages.” Marked as the very first recording since the pod dropped, they ponder about reaction thus far. Then, Garrett schools us on his first “cupping” experience. Jordan felt inspired to share a guilty pleasure which the others get in on as well. Then we top it off with Garrett’s favorite topic in the world, Canada’s great game.
The boys pick apart the way albums are constructed and consumed these days. The music industry is changing. They ponder what technology and innovation has to do with it. They take a little visit to willrobotstakemyjob.com & realize we are all screwed (except pastors). Robots are watching.
You have questions, so the boys answer them. They discover Jordan is an absolute weirdo when it comes to breakfast, Garrett found a treasure while innocently conducting his “business” and Josh (suprise suprise) isn’t exactly passionate about horoscopes.
On Friday May 30,2019, we all lost Carolyn to Cancer. She was full of hope, strength and faith through her entire fight and we are truly inspired by her in more ways than one. We remember her for her strength, compassion, hope, love and joy she spread with every moment we shared with her. She is someone we will forever cherish and never forget. Her, her husband Noel and her three amazing daughters have made a positive impact of our lives and we feel it is only right to use this platform to be lift them up with love and support in anyway we can. Please consider giving and supporting Noel, Makayla, Ella and Hannah during this time as we all surround them with love and community. Anything helps - as the last thing this family needs to worry about is money at this current time. The boys welcome their very first guest! Friend of the pod KEVIN HERRERA comes on to talk about the fashion world and boy, it was a real treat. He shares with us the struggles and triumphs of owning his own clothing brand, the in’s and out’s of the industry and his own personal style. Go check out Reborn Garments https://www.shopreborn.ca/ https://www.instagram.com/reborngarments/
BONUS EPISODE! After we get beverage vessel talk out of the way, Garrett tells us about his experience at Western Canadian Fashion week. Our boy Kevin was featured and we get a run down about that. He becomes first on the wishlist of guests on the pod. Then the guys discuss trends of the past and future as well as where fashion has been and where we see it going.
Jordan’s old ass turns 25 and he feels some type of way about it. Garrett goes to a new church and its NOTHING like any he’s experienced before. Josh wouldn’t vote in the Alberta election even if he could. In the final episode of the “Getting to know Us” series, Jordan is nervous about the boys taking a deep dive on his life. He gets explicit yet heartfelt right off the bat on the hard hitting first question. We explore what it’s like to be parents trying to raise us assholes, family vs. friends, slappin’ the bass, and when exactly his pants got so damn tight. Joshua is concerned for his rocky friendship with Jesus. Also, he shares his vice that’s ruining his life.
In the second episode of the “Getting to know Us” series, Joshua takes the hot seat. He dives into how close he is with his parents, his humble origins in penticton, and his lack of empathy for death. He has a family member who shreds the drums, and you’ll never guess who. Beer bongs straight to worship practice, he’s done it all. Also, he and Garrett nerd the HELL out on coffee. Jordan ain’t havin’ it.
In the first episode of the “Getting to know Us” series, we grill Garski. He talks a bit about his life story (or testimony?) including how he grew up, how he made his way across the country and how his faith has changed throughout his life. He reveals a horrible secret about Jordan’s mom and teaches us what the hell a pour over is. Also, the boys debate the age old question: Coffee? Or beer?
Please welcome the boys to your earholes for the very first time. Not intending to release an episode, this “tester episode” turned out to be not too shabby. We get into the origins of the pod, some brutal driving calculations and keeping an open mind.
