Our conversation surrounding the history of women who made history is far from over. In true homegirl fashion, Sarah Jakes Roberts challenges listeners to—yes—use your voice. But also…put some motion where your mouth is. After all, it takes faith to move, don't it? In this episode, she reflects on women whose stories were shaped by extraordinary resilience, like Harriet Tubman, Oprah Winfrey, and the Woman with the Issue of Blood. Each one a reminder that our role in God's kingdom calls us to embrace an identity marked by movement.

Is singleness a result of sin? This is one of the most thought-provoking questions about marriage, singleness, and the Christian life — and the answer may surprise you. Pastor Heath Lambert opens the Bible to show why singleness is not only acceptable but honored by God, drawing from Genesis 2, 1 Corinthians 7, and the words of Jesus in Matthew 22.0:00 – Introduction to Marked by Grace0:13 – This week's question: Is singleness the result of sin?2:33 – The Genesis 2:24 argument explained4:02 – Why Genesis 2:24 does not require marriage for all people5:21 – The difference between aloneness and loneliness6:08 – What 1 Corinthians 7:32 says about singleness and devotion to God7:31 – The lynchpin: Matthew 22:30 and what Jesus says about eternity8:04 – Marriage is temporary; why this proves singleness is not sinfulLike this episode? What if the most spiritually formative season of the Christian year isn’t Advent or Lent—but the long stretch of ordinary time in between? In this episode of the Thinking Christian Podcast, Dr. James Spencer is joined by Dr. Amy Peeler, Kenneth T. Wessner Chair of Biblical Studies at Wheaton College, to discuss her book Ordinary Time: The Season of Growth, part of the Fullness of Time series from IVP. Together, they explore how the church’s longest season—often overlooked or misunderstood—shapes Christian maturity, patience, and attentiveness to God’s work in everyday life. Amy shares her own journey from a free-church background into the Anglican tradition, where the church calendarprovides a shared rhythm for worship, discipleship, and formation. Ordinary time, she explains, is neither feast nor fast. Marked by the color green, it reflects growth—slow, patient, often unseen—rather than dramatic spiritual highs. This season mirrors how most of life is actually lived: meals, conversations, work, rest, and faithful obedience in the ordinary. James and Amy discuss how modern Christians—both liturgical and non-liturgical—often struggle with cadence, reflection, and rest. Without intentional rhythms, churches can become overly programmatic, while individuals drift into distraction, passivity, or burnout. Ordinary time offers a corrective: a space to reflect on God’s work, attend carefully to Scripture, and allow spiritual growth to “catch up” after seasons of intense focus. The conversation also explores how ordinary time functions formatively: As a season of growth rather than spectacle As an extended invitation to rest and receptivity, not spiritual laziness As a reminder that God is present in the mundane—not just in mountaintop moments Amy draws on biblical texts (especially Genesis 18) to show how God often appears not in dramatic events, but in ordinary hospitality, conversation, and faithfulness. She also reflects on Trinity Sunday, explaining how ordinary time helps Christians attend more deeply to Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—not as abstract doctrine, but as lived worship shaped by prayer, posture, and participation. Throughout the episode, James and Amy examine how formation happens over time, why Christians need both structure and reflection, and how ordinary time can function almost like an extended Sabbath—a season where believers learn to cease striving and trust God’s work in them. Focus: The covenant promise expands as God delivers His people from slavery and claims them as His own. From the burning bush to the Passover to Sinai, we see that God rescues before He instructs, saves before He shapes, and marks His people with grace before calling them to obedience. This week anchors us in the truth that covenant identity flows from deliverance, not performance. We are not saved by keeping the law; we are given the law because we have been saved. Exodus 3, 12, 20
God’s love is tender—spiritual healing for shame, fear, and a harsh world where hearts get bruised. In this personal episode, Catherine shares what the Lord has been ministering to her for years: God is tender. Yes, He’s strong. Yes, He’s masterful. But when He comes for the human heart—your pain points, your confusion, your “I did it again” places—He doesn’t come with a sledgehammer. He comes safe. He comes kind. He comes with the tenderness that restores you from the inside out. If you’ve been living with anger, skepticism, or that low-grade inner ache that says, “I’m not enough,” this is for you. Catherine unpacks why a soft answer turns away wrath (Proverbs 15:1), and how tenderness disarms the fear underneath rage—both in others and in us. You’ll hear why condemnation is never God’s voice, why you can’t grow by beating yourself up, and how the Good Shepherd trains us to recognize His voice—the voice that carries you home (John 10). She also walks through the healing truth behind patterns we keep returning to (Romans 7): God doesn’t “rip things out” of you like magic. He heals you relationally—step by step—until you’re willing to release what you once believed you couldn’t live without. That’s identity in Christ maturing into freedom. That’s inner healing that actually lasts. If you’re tired of harsh religion, tired of trying harder, and ready to experience God’s heart as tender and relentless love—press play. Welcome to the first episode of a new series called "Marked", where the Chi Alpha staff will lead us through the stories from the book of Mark. This episode, BreAnna preaches from parts of the first three chapters and teaches us how Jesus calls us to be fishers of men.
In this episode of Perspectives with Catherine Toon, Catherine speaks to the very real, heavy anxiety Jesus addressed in His disciples—anxiety that was understandable, even “well-founded.” And she names something crucial: many believers feel condemned for having fear, as if anxiety proves they’re failing at faith. But trouble in the heart isn’t a shame sentence—it’s an invitation to encounter God again and let His presence re-order your inner world. Catherine weaves together three anchors for your nervous system and your spirit: John 14:1 (Amplified, Classic)—Jesus calls you out of turmoil and into trust; John 14:27 (Amplified, Classic)—He gives His own peace, not a fragile substitute; and Mark 4:35–40 (TPT)—Jesus doesn’t just calm storms, He confronts the fear underneath them. She also reminds us that fruit like love, joy, peace, patience, and self-control grows as we “remain” in Him—and that while our awareness can wax and wane, God stays rock-steady and present. Real talk: Problems don’t always resolve on the timeline you’d script. Jesus said tribulation is part of this world. But God is faithful in the long game of love—redeeming, strengthening, and carrying you through what you didn’t choose. If your heart is troubled today, you’re not disqualified… you’re being met. Marked By The Word | Pastor Nirup Alphonse | More Than Words: Week 04 | February 22, 2026
Before God clothes,… He calls. Much like a baby, that after they are born, he or she is placed in swaddling clothes. The 28th chapter of Exodus doesn't begin with required garments. It begins with a summons. “Take thou unto thee Aaron thy brother… that he may minister unto Me.” Aaron didn't campaign for it. He didn't earn it. He was called. And with that calling came consecration. Set apart. Separated. Marked for holy purpose. Before the ephod… Before the breastplate… Before the gold and the beauty… There was surrender. Because you cannot wear what is holy while living what is common. God called Aaron out from among the people to stand before Him. And the question for us is simple: Has God called you — but you've resisted consecration? This week, we open Exodus 28:1–5 and discover that before there is glory, there must be holiness. Before there is beauty, there must be obedience. Before there is ministry, there must be consecration. The Call is cast, but are you consecrated? For many are called, but few are chosen.
Jesus said He came to see and save what was lost. That His Father sent Him not to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. What does it look like for us to partner with Him in that? What should mark us in light of His mission in the world?

Can God’s love really be this good—or is that just sentimental fantasy? In this episode of Perspectives with Catherine Toon, Catherine goes straight into the heart of a jaded, skeptical age and shows how God’s love is actually the most realistic thing in the universe. Drawing from John 18, John 1, John 17, John 6, Hebrews 4, and the parable of the sower in Matthew 13, she explores how truth (aletheia) is not just a concept, but a Person—Jesus—who comes full of grace and truth to bring spiritual healing to our wounded, distrustful hearts. When life has been brutal, “realism” can start to look like cynicism: we call it wisdom, but inside we’ve lost wonder, childlikeness, and the ability to hope. Catherine gently exposes how unbelief, jadedness, and skepticism are heart conditions, not moral failures—and how they keep us from experiencing God, hearing His voice, and stepping into the spiritual transformation we’re actually hungry for. She unpacks the different “soils” of the heart: hardened paths, shallow gravel, thorny distractions, and finally good, rich soil that receives the seed of God’s word and bears real fruit. You’ll discover how seeing God as punisher wrecks mental health, while seeing Him as He truly is—Healer, Lover, Truth Himself—brings freedom, sanity, and joy. This is about identity in Christ and learning to be teachable again, to trade “I’ve seen it all” for blissful eyes and delighted ears that can receive fresh revelation in a skeptical world. Practical takeaway: Ask Holy Spirit to highlight one area where you’ve become jaded, skeptical, or shut down. Write it down, and pray: “Jesus, I believe—help my unbelief. Heal this part of my heart and make it good soil for Your truth.” Revisit this with Him over the coming days and notice what begins to soften. Gabby Mark was born with a port wine stain birthmark on her face, and for years, she thought it was a curse. As a little girl, she carried the weight of other kids’ fear. They thought they could catch something from her. She learned to shrink herself to make others comfortable. But she chose a different story. During COVID, she connected over Zoom with other young people who shared her birthmark. What once felt isolating became empowering. Together, they realized they weren’t different in a bad way, they were rare in a beautiful way. Now at 21, Gabby walks into a room knowing she was made this way on purpose. Not as something to hide, but as something that sets her apart. She channels her healing through her music trio, The 223, and brings that same confidence and grit to her work as my content creator and intern. I’m blown away by her belief in herself and dedication to what set her soul on fire. She didn’t erase her mark. She became it. ✨See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
