Modern missionaries have traditionally felt a career-long calling on their life to a particular country and specific people. They have sometimes lives for up to 40 years among a particular tribe or people. We, as Christians living in a post-modern age, should be open to the Spirit's leading to live "missionally"... sharing the gospel, discipling new believers, and creating visible and viable new organic churches that reach the people in a particular cultural setting right where we are.
What does it mean to share our faith? Does it mean doing good works? Does it mean holding our tempers and tongues when we're tempted to react to a difficult circumstance? Does it mean to just "live a good life?" What has your experience been when you tried to share what your faith means to you with someone else? Join in the discussion on July 29, at 7:30 p.m.
When Jesus was asked, what is the most important commandment, he answered, "Love the Love your God with all your heart, all your mind, all your soul, and love your neighbors like you love yourself." Richard Foster wrote that simple prayer is ordinary people bringing their ordinary circumstances and concerns to a loving and compassionate Father. There is no pretense, no greater-than-you “holiness.” Just our own self, pouring out our hearts to the Lord. We'll discuss the challenges of praying from our heart.
Madonna wrote in her song, "Bedtime Story," that "Words are useless, especially sentences, they don't stand for anything." Does this thought resonate with you? Do you sometimes feel that all the words in the Bible are dead, that they just don't speak to you. That you're traveling on your journey and you might as well be unconscious for all the good that the Word does in your life? Martin Luther, hundreds of years ago, said, "The Bible is alive, it speaks to me; it has feet, it runs after me; it has hands, it lays hold on me." Tonight we'll discuss this mystery. This ministry was begun early in 2009 initially as an blog, with the purpose of building community online and in our geographic area.
