Without God, we are isolated, imprisoned and incomplete. Through Jesus, we have new access to God, a new freedom for living and a new purpose for how we spend our time.

We have a tendency to try to make life happen on our terms an in our own strength. Doing so robs us of peace and fills us with stress because it puts the burden of it all squarely on our shoulders. God invites us to live with what John Eldredge calls, “benevolent detachment” which is to consistently “give everything and everyone to God” rather than trying to control and manage it all on our own. When we pause long enough to receive the peace that comes from giving it to Him, we can discern what He wants our next move to be.
As CrossRoads begins our 21 Days of Prayer today, we have the opportunity to multiply the power of our prayers by praying and fasting together. Praying connects us to God. I can’t control what happens to me, but with God’s help, I can choose my response. There are stages, sort of, that we can be intentional about going through when we’re hit with bad news. Initially there’s the shock of it all, then sorrow over it, and also a struggle to accept what happened. At some point, we must choose to surrender it all to God, to see how God is growing us through it and then how to serve at a higher level after it.

We often carry the weight of our past and pains that we were never meant to carry. When the weight of life piles up, we become overburdened and can feel stuck. When we feel stuck, there is always hope! No matter how stuck we may feel, God wants us to know, there is always a way out. We can change perspective, live lighter and get rid of the weight we’re carrying by believing first, it’s okay not to be okay. God’s strength is made perfect in our weakness. If we don’t express our weakness, then we can’t experience His power! Second, get completely honest, first with ourselves and then with others. Pray Psalm 139:23-24 and ask God to point out our anxious thoughts or anything that offends Him. Finally, place our dependency on God. In scripture, stress and anxiety always reveal self-dependency, and the cure for that is always God-dependency.
