Which is the most important event for Christians to celebrate: Jesus' birth or Jesus' resurrection? There's no reason to choose between the two. Celebrating Christmas is joyful, and it causes us to remember Jesus chose to come to earth, as a babe taking on human flesh, in order to become our Savior. However, there is no question the most important event for Christians to celebrate is the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. The Apostle Paul made that clear to the doubting people of Corinth. He wrote: But if it is preached that Christ has been raised form the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith…And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile, you are still in your sins (1 Corinthians 15:12-14, 17). Have you ever wondered why almost anybody will celebrate Christmas, the birth of the Christ child, but celebrating the resurrection is not so universally accepted? Let's face it: It does strain credulity and sound quite brazen to say you believe someone was raised from the dead. Some time ago I was explaining to some international students from China what Christians believe. These young women had no religious background whatsoever. So, I told them we believe in the virgin birth and the resurrection of Jesus, and I explained why both are so vital to our faith. As I was speaking to them, I thought to myself how absolutely unreal—perhaps even absurd—it must have seemed to these young women. Did I actually believe Jesus was buried in a tomb, but after three days, he left that tomb empty on his own, alive forevermore? No other religion in the world has a risen savior. No other religion claims their leader or their deity rose from the dead. They worship their graves, in some cases; they memorialize how and where they died. But they don't claim their savior became alive again. As we come up to the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we need to think again of that empty tomb. Jesus is the only qualified Savior because he has conquered death. We need to celebrate this glorious truth and tell others about it.

Pastor Matt concludes the Christmas series with a message on the importance of knowing and proclaiming the true meaning of Christmas.
Christmas should be celebrated every day, all year long to help us live every day in the reality of Jesus Christ. We should celebrate daily the Lord's gift of Savation by living a life that's focused on Him.
SUMMARY: The discussion reflects on the profound significance of the shepherds in the Nativity story, as outlined in the Gospel of Luke, and how their humble status made them the recipients of the angelic announcement of Jesus's birth. This choice by God emphasizes a recurring biblical theme where God calls and empowers the marginalized and lowly. The shepherds, often seen as lowly folks of society, parallel figures like David and Moses, who were also shepherds chosen for significant divine missions. The narrative brings forth the idea that Jesus embodies the ultimate Good Shepherd, who not only fulfils prophetic expectations but also serves as a model of humility, care, and sacrifice, as demonstrated in Psalm 23 and John 10:11. Celebrating Christmas is not just a remembrance of Jesus's birth, but an invitation to recognize and trust in the love, grace, and salvation that emerges from His vulnerability and proximity to humanity. KEY TAKEAWAYS: God's Choice of the Lowly: The birth of Jesus was first announced to shepherds, highlighting how God often chooses the lowly and marginalized to showcase His divine plans and to illustrate His grace and inclusive love Connection with Biblical Figures: The shepherds connect to biblical figures like David and Moses, emphasizing a historical pattern where God selects shepherds as leaders and representatives of His people, thus enhancing the spiritual symbolism associated with shepherding. Jesus as the Good Shepherd: The concept of Jesus as the Good Shepherd emphasizes His role in laying down His life for humanity, demonstrating ultimate love and sacrifice, as echoed in John 10:11. The Joy of Good News: The announcement of Jesus's birth is described as "good news of great joy," signalling a new covenant relationship with God, which invites believers to embrace His message despite life's challenges. Personal Reflection and Trust: The narrative encourages personal reflection on God's faithfulness and the invitation to trust Him through life's uncertainties, reminding believers that God sees and cares for them, just as He saw the shepherds and chose to reveal His promises to them.

On this 25th day of December, join your Bible reading coach, Hunter, on the Daily Radio Bible podcast for a special Christmas episode. Today marks the 360th day of our journey through the scriptures, and together, we delve into the transformative love and life of Jesus, the true light of the world. In this episode, Hunter reads from 1st John, chapters 1 through 5, reminding us of the humble arrival of Jesus and His profound impact on our lives. Alongside scripture, we engage in heartfelt prayers for peace, understanding, and divine guidance. So, take a pause from the festivities, and let the message of God's love fill your heart and home on this blessed day. Join us on this enlightening journey, and remember, you are loved. Let's get started! TODAY'S DEVOTION: John reminds us today that the darkness is passing away, and the true light is already shining. The true light is Jesus Christ. His coming was about as unassuming as as one could imagine, a tiny baby, born to a couple of teenagers. The mother, a virgin, in a tiny town, born in a manger. Who could have imagined that God would come to us in such a lowly way? But Jesus' humble entrance brought light back into the dark world. Though, at first, only some family and friends, a few shepherds, some wise men took note of it. When we read this, we can't help but draw a line from the birth of Jesus, the light of the world, to Genesis, chapter 1, when God's light broke over the darkness, when God created the first dawn. Then God said, let there be light, and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. For the God who said, let there be light in the darkness, has made this light shine in our hearts so that we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ. As we look to the birth of Jesus, consider the ways that Jesus has brought light into your dark world. Put that light on a stand and offer that light to others. And imagine a day coming when the glory of God will be all and in all. And that's a prayer that I have for my own soul. And that's a prayer that I have for my family, for my wife and my daughters and my son. And that's the prayer that I have for you. May it be so. Let's continue now in a time of prayer. Feel free to read along with these prayers in the show notes of today's podcast, and meditate on these words that are being spoken over you, your family, and our world. And now, let us pray. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen. Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. And now Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. And where there is sadness, Joy. Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life. Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image. And nourishing us with spiritual food, now send us forth as forgiven people, healed and renewed, that we may proclaim your love to the world, and continue in the risen life of Christ. Amen. This episode, coming out on Christmas Eve, is with two of my best friends. They are pastors who lead a church in Illinois, formerly led youth ministry in Georgia. We had a superb conversation about the true meaning of Christmas...what a close relationship with Jesus looks like...misconceptions of our faith because of "headline theology"...the importance of friendship on Earth...reading the entire Bible in 30 days...the challenges of ministry...and a lil football too. (3:03) Joe Banks and Jarrod Six are the lead and executive pastors of Abundant Church in Alton IL. The 3 of us met a decade+ ago in Columbus GA. We start our pod chat with why CHRISTmas is the culmination of our faith and how it's an opportunity to show others our authenticity. How can an intimate relationship with Jesus (his birth being celebrated) be compared to intimacy in our marriage? (13:51) For those who want to hear God speak to you, His Word is a great start. Pastor Joe talks about some in their church kicking off 2025 with a Bible Shred, reading the entire book in 30 days! And they both gives keys to success to discipline in reading the Bible on a regular basis. In the face of life's ups and downs, (24:05) friendship is also crucial or "redwood faith." They explain. And instead of Christianity being about a stuffy set of rules to follow, His Word describes a life of joy. But what's it really like working with a best friend, side-by-side in the tough world of ministry? They both love football, but sports or other things we put above God...can become a real problem. (49:30) Holidays are for celebrations, but it can also be depressing and difficult, so these guys talk about how to bring people into community. Jarrod opens up about how it can be heavy for pastors carrying other people's burdens but it's a calling. And finding balance in ministry is a myth. (1:04:50) Joe closes us out with a prayer of blessing. Merry Christmas everyone!! Thanks for listening to the #RunTheRace podcast, which I hope you'll subscribe to! Share it with your friends. Every December 25th, around the world, happenings are quite different and diverse, place to place. Celebrating Christmas is unique to each culture, but the meaning of it all we share. In Norway, Christmas Eve is the main event with bells ringing at five in the evening, followed by family dinners. In Mexico, Christmas begins on December 16th and on the ninth evening, Christmas Eve, children walk to the local church to place a figure of the Christ child in a manger.Like nature, God put wonderful color in our world family and Christmas has its own traditions in diverse places. Yet in each heart, the Christ child is center. Luke 2:4–5 says, “So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth and Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem, the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child.” Wherever we celebrate, the baby in the lowly manger in Bethlehem calls to us through time. This season, reflect on that special night so long ago, and remember to give extra love to your family and friends. Let's pray. Lord, you love all people everywhere. Help us to do the same as we remember our brothers and sisters around the world at Christmas time. In Jesus' name, amen. Change your shirt, and you can change the world! Sunday December 15, 2024 at the Hub City Church How to Have a Fulfilling Christmas | Luke 1:46:55 Sermon by Tadd Anderson | Lead Teaching Pastor Sermon Notes: The most important means of CELEBRATING ‘Christmas' is NOT giving GIFTS to ONE ANOTHER; it is attempting to EXPRESS our awe and humble GRATITUDE for GOD'S inexpressible GIFT, through SINGING. 1. Singing EXISTS because some REALITIES are too WONDERFUL for God-CONSCIOUS beings to KNOW and merely TALK about. Genesis 2:23 // Exodus 15:1-2 // 1 Samuel 2:1 // Romans 11:33-36 2. Because Christians know God, there are ENDLESS OPPORTUNITIES to SING about His glorious CHARACTER and WORKS. Psalm 47:6-7, 66:2, 147:1 3. Upon HEARING the NEWS of God's merciful PROVISION of the promised SAVIOR, Mary and the multitude of ANGELS alike burst forth in SONG. WE should too! The claim that December 25th is a borrowed pagan festival is challenged by evidence pointing to its roots in early Christian observances and Jewish traditions. Rather than avoiding celebrations due to perceived pagan connections, Christians are reminded of their liberty in Christ, as guided by Scripture. Dr Jonathan Sarfati explores these ideas, addressing misconceptions with logical and historical clarity, and encouraging believers to consider the true significance of celebrating Christ’s birth.
