Send us a Text Message.Todays guest is Jerry Roe. Jerry is an ACM award winning, first call Nashville session drummer/bassist, and one half of the heavy duo, Friendship Commanders.Jerry's career is a shining example of how to remain unapologetically authentic to one's creative and personal identity while crafting a top tier career in the music business. Jerry has held down the pocket for artists like Luke Combs, Morgan Wallen, Dolly Parton, Post Malone, The Legendary Shackshakers, Secondhand Serenade, and a continued list of marquee acts that would take us the rest of the length of this podcast to recall. More importantly, Jerry has a one of a kind sense of humor, and an unmovable passion for art in all of it's forms. In this hilariously insightful episode, hosted by fellow drummer Miles McPherson, Jerry recalls his journey to becoming one of Nashville's most in demand session drummers, shares the “secret” contents of his session gig bag, discusses the importance of retaining an authentic identity, and tells us why he believes that AI is a bubble that will burst with catastrophic impact.Support the Show.Join The Band for FREE at studiomusicianacademy.comFor access to exclusive masterclass sessionsInstagramYoutube
Episode Summary. In my view as a men's ministry leader, one of the great tragedies of the church today is that we have failed to capture the hearts of men with the greatness of our mission. This episode focusses on just one aspect of a decision that every Christian who is listening to this podcast has made—choosing to be a follower of King Jesus. Disciples follow their masters' example. They apply his teaching. They embrace his cause. This episode looks at just one facet of Jesus' identity that has enormous implications for following him. He is the Prince of Peace who brings shalom. For Further Prayerful Thought:What steps can you take to increase the likelihood that that next year at this time you will look back and say, “I was a faithful agent of reconciliation of the kingdom. I prayed for, the building of relationships with the lost around me and for opportunities to share my faith, and seized those opportunities”?How can you better notice the inner turmoil of those around you and take a small step in pointing them to Jesus? How can you support ministries of those reaching those who have been broken by life? What caveats do you want to remember about being a peacemaker among humans? What do you think of Miles McPherson's Third option? Why might it be important in your world to remember that Christians aren't call just to fix spiritual things—but respond with compassion to those impacted by the brokenness of the physical world? For the printed version of this message click here. For a summary of topics addressed by podcast series, click here. For FREE downloadable studies on men's issues click here.To make an online contribution to enable others to hear about the podcast: (Click link and scroll down to bottom left)
Amelia Ford and her husband, Shawn Maass, have been having an incredible 2023. Capping off the year, Amelia released three stellar singles in "Hate Her," "Happy Now," and now "Loyal." While the first two singles hit hard, "Loyal" is a ballad that combines the pop sensibilities of her Wide Wide Open album with some of the harder edged textures of "Hate Her" and "Happy Now." Amelia and Shawn also talk about the process of bringing a new band together, Shawn the musician, voice lessons and growth, and singing badly around the house. Sounds like fun! This episode is dedicated to the memory of the "King of Oshkosh," drummer Tom Hansen. He is missed."Happy Now" and "Loyal" written and performed by Amelia Ford℗ 2023 Amelia Ford. Amelia Ford is an artist that simply refuses to be pigeon holed. Although a singer-songwriter at heart, her latest songs show steady growth as a writer but sonically they completely break the mold from what was previously established. Her new single, "Happy Now," rocks hard and we find out just why it does. With the success that Amelia's previous single, "Hate Her," has enjoyed, "Happy Now" has the potential to capitalize on that and then take that success even further. Amelia's husband, Shawn Maass, is on hand to give some insight into the significance of the multiple roles he plays. Amelia and Shawn are a team and there's no telling how far this team will go!"Hate Her" written and performed by Amelia Ford℗ 2023 Amelia Ford. Recorded in Nashville, July 2023
Amelia Ford returns to Into The Music, this time with husband and teammate Shawn Maass to talk about the huge year 2023 has been for them. Amelia's album, Wide Wide Open, won the Wisconsin Area Music Industry (WAMI) Award for Album of the Year and she was nominated in seven other categories to boot. We discuss why northeast Wisconsin is becoming a hot spot for singer-songwriters of which she is emerging as one to pay attention to. Along with a busier gigging schedule, she went to Nashville to record three singles at The Record Shop with producer Sean Giovanni. "Hate Her," the first of the three, drops today and we have it here!"Outlaw Out Loud" written and performed by Amelia Ford℗ 2022 Amelia Ford. Going Boldly, Entertainment, Information, Inspiration, & Transformation for Entrepreneurs!
S1-E16 One of the pleasant surprises I have experienced as host of the Going Boldly podcast is the extent to which our guests are willing to reveal themselves as they share their life experiences, insights and advice with our listeners. Michael Brunker is no exception. His was a beginning that except for a stroke of luck, (or divine intervention), would have kept him on a path without much opportunity. But a path to college and beyond saw him as an assistant coach for college basketball and for the Detroit Pistons. He has been the Executive Director and the V.P. for Mission Advancement of the mammoth Jackie Robinson Family YMCA in San Diego, even named as Mr. San Diego.Michael's friends and close supporters include Dick Vitale, (yes, That Dick Vitale of ESPN), Ken Blanchard, Dick Lane and many others. If you can use a role model and an example of how to live a life of service, you will find much to keep your attention. Michael demonstrates his values and commitment to others through his actions and life choices, not the least of which is in his current role as CEO of The Third Option City. Based on the teachings and the book by Miles McPherson, pastor of the Rock Church in San Diego and former San Diego Chargers Cornerback. The Third Option City is a movement that is healing racial divides as it promotes and educates us to honor what we have in common- our similarities, while we celebrate our diversity. Michael explains more including mentioning some famous people in our history who embodied these values in their lives and in their communities. More about Michael and The Third Option City:www.ThirdOptionCity.comwww.TheThirdOptionTraining.comwww.MichaelBrunker.net
Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Serena Williams, Lebron James, Muhammed Ali, Mike Tyson...aren't these people proof that America is truly the land of equal opportunity? When we see the financial success, love and admiration for black athletes, isn't that proof that we are past the horrors of our racist past? Simply stated, the answer to these questions is: no. Anthony Tolliver helps us see that success in professional sports is not the full picture of the opportunities and treatment of minorities in the United States. Anthony Tolliver played basketball at Creighton University before going to a professional basketball career that has taken him from the NBA D-League (now called G-League), to Germany, to the NBA. While in the NBA (at the time of this airing lol), Anthony has played for the: San Antonio Spurs, Portland Trailblazers, Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves, Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Bobcats, Phoenix Suns, Detroit Pistons, Sacramento Kings and the Memphis Grizzlies. Anthony is also an entrepreneur. He has played a part in starting many businesses including Active Faith Sports (www.activefaithsports.com) and the Big Blanket (www.bigblanket.com). Anthony is a dedicated husband and active father to his 4 children. You can follow Anthony on Social Media at: @ATolliver44.
