Design Klatch is the child of regular meetings in which only a few designers were able to participate. Portland has tons of great stories about design. We live in such a rich creative environment. The podcast is a way to connect these various communities and talk about life as a designer.
Fritz and Jeremy stop by to talk about how they figured out what they wanted to do and how they started working together. We talk about skateboarding (again), make fun of Texas and Seattle a little bit, the effect of the Twi-hards on the small city of Forks, and end the episode abruptly (sorry). Stay tuned for the next episode where we talk about how OMFGCO works today.
Martin Gee is a Senior Art Director at TIME and has the best Instagram Stories of anyone. We talk about politics, Saturday morning cartoons, pop culture, Robotech, and LEGOS!
Dave Gray visits us in Portland and talks about how he got started in journalism before leaving to form XPLANE. He describes how he discovered the highly creative world of business and his experience building one.
Draplin visits the studio just before the release of his book Pretty Much Everything. We asked a few questions, but we mostly just sat back and enjoyed the stories about getting ahead, saying thanks along the way, and trying to get away with cool things.
Matthew Hollister talks about growing up in a small (but beautiful) town, a Mennonites pie stand, graffiti, working with KAWS, and the road to establishing himself as an illustrator.
Benji talks about the importance of brand, Portland's culture, and the shared experience of getting outside.
Kate talks about her weaver parents, getting mad about grammar, and not liking logos.
Yvonne Perez Emerson talks about life as a central hub in the Portland design engine.
Josh and Colby (Jolby) preach the gospel of collaboration, discuss their roots, recommend some Portland restaurants, and commit to surfing in Oregon.
How Cole went from making things in his basement to a career in graphic design — then to being a front-end developer. Enjoy the first episode of Design Klatch.
