He is also an artist, an entrepreneur, and a possibilitarian. After selling his company, XPlane, in 2022, Dave established The School of the Possible, an experimental learning community through which he helps people create work that is meaningful and matters to them.In this episode, Dave shares with us his journey of finding purpose and meaning in his life, from the sense of belonging he felt at art school, to identifying and honouring his true nature, and noticing moments in life where he felt he was in the right place, at the right time, with the right people. He emphasises the importance of relationships and community in identifying our own uniqueness and the energy he experiences when in creative communities. Dave also underscores the significance of possibility and supporting others with their creativity. This episode will give you much to consider regarding finding more purpose, meaning, and cultivating greater awareness around your own true nature. Welcome to another episode of the Human Centred Design Podcast, this time with someone I hold in the highest regards for their contribution to the world of design. It's Dave Gray, co-author of Gamestorming, and author of The Connected Company, and one of my favourite all-time books, not just design books, Liminal Thinking. Now this episode was really open and free-flowing, mainly because I think it was recorded quite late in the night for me, so we discussed lots of topics. Different topics, but mainly going to cover off some of the main points here. We talk about the power of drawing and visualisation, the influence of belief systems on reality, and the importance of finding common ground with those that we're working with. Dave shares his insights on facilitating workshops and encouraging active participation, something many of us are really struggling with. As well as nurturing creativity and challenging beliefs. This conversation really highlights the need for trust and open-mindedness. How do we get that in order to drive meaningful change? Dave also discusses his experience and how he got his first break, really creating infographics for newspapers, and then teaching others to draw to create that alignment. Now he shares the story of starting his company, XPLANE, and the power of information visualisation. We really stress the importance of creativity and design, and the challenges of that the notion that only some people are creative, something that I face many times when I'm training. Now he introduces the concept of being a possibilitarian and encourages testing assumptions and pushing boundaries. Dave also discusses his new endeavour, School of the Possible, a community that you might be interested in as it explores creative projects and cultivates positive possibilities. It's an incredible episode, Dave's incredible. Go grab a coffee, a slice of your favourite cake, or maybe a few biscuits. Sit back and enjoy. linkedin.com/in/davegray Campfire call – SCHOOL OF THE POSSIBLE Visual Thinking – Hi there! Jon MacDonald is the Founder and President of The Good, a conversion rate optimization firm that has achieved results for some of the largest online brands, including Adobe, Nike, Xerox, Verizon, and Intel. The Good helps brands understand their website visitors' clicks and movements and how to use that data effectively to convert more of them into buyers. Before The Good, Jon was the Interactive Development Manager at XPLANE and the Founder and Interactive Director of JonnyMac Interactive. In addition to authoring Opting in to Optimization and Stop Marketing, Start Selling, Jon regularly contributes to publications, including Entrepreneur and Inc. He is also an active committee member in industry associations and peer groups such as the Entrepreneurs' Organization (EO). In this episode… Are you an e-commerce brand struggling to increase online sales? How can you convert more website visitors into buyers? Many e-commerce brands have great products or services but low sales because they lack a clear path to realizing their website's potential. Jon MacDonald, an expert in driving conversion rates, explains how brands can optimize their websites to increase revenue. When you have a lot of visitors to your e-commerce store, but they're not converting into buyers, Jon recommends having a professional help you understand and track the visitors' clicks and movements and how they're navigating your site. Once you know where and why people are dropping off in the sales funnel, you can improve your site's efficiency and use the existing traffic to increase conversion rates and drive sales. In this episode of the Quiet Light Podcast, Joe Valley and Pat Yates sit down with Jon MacDonald, Founder and President of The Good, to discuss how to convert your site's visitors into buyers. Jon explains why 98% of your website visitors don't buy from you and why, tips for improving conversion rates without offering discounts, the importance of user testing, and how smaller brands can optimize their sites.

More than 80% of strategic plans fail. So chances are, if you're an organizational leader, you're (unfortunately) part of that group. But there are ways to turn that tradition around — and actually execute on the strategies you spend so much time designing.    Our latest guest is an expert in helping companies do just that. Aric Wood is the CEO of XPLANE, a global design consultancy that serves Fortune 500 businesses and global organizations to clarify, communicate, and activate their strategies and drive change in their organizations. He is also the author of the Strategy Activation Playbook.   Tune into the full episode for more on common mistakes that companies make in their strategic planning, the importance of human-centered design in reversing that trend, how many touchpoints you *really* need with your team to actually execute your vision, how to use focus groups to understand barriers, and more.   Here's a Glimpse of What You'll Learn:    More about Aric's company, XPLANE The statistic about strategic planning that was “infuriating” for Aric — and how his company helps to change that stat What an organization's failure to reach its vision or strategic initiatives boils down to Why human-centered design is important to incorporate into strategic planning Why the way companies have traditionally rolled out strategy is a “dinosaur” — and what's changing now  More about the 80-20 rule, and how understanding it can impact change management at your organization How many touchpoints you typically need with your team (and what kind of touchpoints) if you want to successfully enact a strategic plan How to use focus groups to figure out the barriers to change at your organization Why the “smartest person in the room” is actually the “room” Why rolling out a strategy as a 100-page PowerPoint deck is a bad plan — and what to do instead  The biggest obstacle to actually executing a strategic plan How Aric measures success with his clients    Resources Mentioned in This Episode:  XPLANE consultancy Aric Wood on LinkedIn “The Strategy Activation Playbook: A Practical Approach to Bringing Your Strategies to Life” by Aric Wood “The Design of Everyday Things” by Don Norman 40 Strategy Contact 40 Strategy Carl J. With the cutoff for 2022 Oscar-considered movies having passed, it's officially the season of movies for people who actually like watching movies. The "House Party" reboot kicks this episode off and continues the streak of highly fun and enjoyable films to start 2023 (following "M3GAN" and "A Man Called Otto" from last week). Can Gerard Butler's "Plane" keep the streak alive and, if so, what about its DNA separates it from the doldrums of typical modern action movies? Does the title of the film work against it? From there, extensive coverage of the 2023 Golden Globes commences. In spite of an edict from one Movie Master to not mention any of the television categories, winners, or nominees, the same Movie Master ends up spearheading an extensive conversation on why another Movie Master should binge-watch "Breaking Bad" with him. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/rmmu/support
