Every year designers obsess over the same recycled “Logo Design Trends” and every year companies panic, rebrand, and burn piles of money trying to look relevant. Here's the truth no trend report will ever tell you. Trends aren't the future of logo design. They're a giant red flag that a brand is confused, inconsistent, or unwilling to fix the real problems underneath. And here's the part most graphic designers will hate. The only reason trends keep winning is because too many designers keep thinking trends equal good design. Most of us would make the exact same mistakes these companies do because we chase aesthetics instead of understanding strategy. Most designers follow. Only a few actually design. Which one are you? In this weeks solo episode of The Angry Designer Podcast, we expose why logo design trends keep distracting designers from the work that actually matters. We dig into why timeless logos survive for decades, why brands keep running toward unnecessary redesigns, and how you can stop reacting to what is popular and start building logos and careers that can't be replaced. In this episode you'll discover:- Why trend chasing keeps designers stuck as order takers instead of problem solvers- What timeless designers do differently and how it gives them unbeatable career leverage- How to spot when a rebrand is strategic and when it is a pointless, expensive panic moveThis episode is not about trends. It is about you. Because if you think following what is fashionable will make you valuable, you're already on the wrong side of graphic design. The HUGE opportunity is right in front of you. Designers who think deeper, question harder, and design with purpose are the ones who build logos that last, brands that matter, and careers that actually go somewhere.Stay Angry our Friends –––––––––––Join Anger Management for Designers Newsletter at https://tinyurl.com/mr4bb4j3Want to see more? If you've ever been frustrated by clients picking the “safe” option, or wondered whether brand agencies still matter in an AI-driven world – this is the one to queue up.

When it comes to recognizable icons, few rival Nike's Swoosh, designed by student designer Carolyn Davidson for $35. We unpack her quiet career, late recognition, and lasting influence with guest Sarah Williams, Co-CEO of Beardwood & Co. and President of AIGA NY._______Support this podcast with a small donation: Buy Me A CoffeeThis show is powered by branding and design studio Nice PeopleJoin this podcast and the Patreon community: patreon.com/womendesignersyoushouldknowHave a 1:1 mentor call with Amber Asay: intro.co/amberasay_______About Carolyn Davidson:We're pulling back the curtain on one of design's most enduring marks: the Nike Swoosh. In 1971, Portland State University student Carolyn Davidson sketched a fluid, wing-like “stripe” directly over a shoe drawing—a fast, simple symbol that Phil Knight didn't love at first but chose under production pressure. She invoiced $35, kept freelancing for the scrappy company as it rebranded from Blue Ribbon Sports to Nike, and later stepped away from the spotlight. Years afterward, Nike surprised her with a gold Swoosh ring and stock—an act of overdue recognition that grew to life-changing value. We trace Davidson's process, her broader early contributions beyond the logo, and how the Swoosh eventually stood alone without the wordmark. About Sarah Williams:Sarah Williams is Co-CEO of Beardwood & Co. and President of AIGA New York. She joined Beardwood early (2006) after starting at Landor and rose to co-owner, leading brand programs for companies like Danone and Colgate while advancing mentorship and access across the NYC design community.Follow Sarah:Instagram: @_sarah_aw_Beardwood & Co Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/beardwoodco/https://beardwood.com/ ____View all the visually rich 1-min reels of each woman on IG below:Instagram: Amber AsayInstagram: Women Designers Pod
Cracker Barrel spent $700 million on a rebrand… and within a week, they had to run back to their old logo. Designers, this isn't just a logo fail, it's a brand disaster! It proves how dangerous it is when companies confuse modernization with progress. Here's the part that should sting: most graphic designers would have made the exact same mistake. Why? Because too many of us still think rebrands are about logos, not the bigger story brands are built on.In this episode of The Angry Designer Podcast, we break down exactly what went wrong with Cracker Barrel's rebrand and the lessons every designer needs to hear.In this episode, you'll discover:Why Cracker Barrel's rebrand backlash proves logos aren't the problem — branding isThe 10 WORST times to update an old logo (and how to avoid the same mistake)How to tell if your rebrand should be an evolution… not a full-blown identity crisisThis isn't about Cracker Barrel, it's about you. Because if you think “design” alone is enough, you're already on the wrong side of branding.Stay Angry our Friends –––––––––––Join Anger Management for Designers Newsletter at https://tinyurl.com/mr4bb4j3Want to see more? Bad logo design is everywhere. From stretched fonts to unreadable colors, from stolen stock icons to AI disasters, the world is flooded with logos that should never have seen the light of day.But here's the kicker: these aren't accidents. They follow patterns. And if you're not careful, you could be making the exact same mistakes without realizing it.In this episode of The Angry Designer Podcast, we flip the script with a sarcastic “MasterClass” on how to create the world's worst logo. It's a roast, it's a lesson, and it's the kind of reality check every graphic designer needs to avoid being the punchline in someone else's roast. In this episode, you'll discoverThe most common mistakes behind bad logo designHow to spot (and avoid) the patterns that ruin logosWhy good designers sometimes still fall into bad habitsWhether you're a seasoned creative or just starting your graphic design career, this episode will help you see logo design disasters for what they are, and make sure you're never the one creating them.Stay Angry our Friends –––––––––––Join Anger Management for Designers Newsletter at https://tinyurl.com/mr4bb4j3Want to see more?
