In 2017, Steve Staeger and Geoff Sawtell bought season tickets for the Colorado Avalanche in the literal cheap seats. They’re so close to the top, they can practically touch the ceiling. We’re back! Finally! What’s wrong with Steve and Geoff, not putting out a show since last season?! They answer that question right off the bat, but still. Inexcusable. There’s a lot to catch up on in this episode. The entirety of the Avs regular season, the first round dismantling of the Blues, and what to expect as they take on the Vegas Golden Knights. Plus a rather lengthy discussion of the maddening inconsistency of NHL suspensions. In our last show, Morgan (@morgannaanna) tried to call in, but was thwarted by Zoom-browsing trolls. We promised to have her in the next week. Ten months later, we finally made good on that, and got to have her on to discuss how hockey fans got through the pandemic, and what to expect as we head into the arena for the first time. BONUS: her dog makes a surprise appearance with a squeaky toy. If that’s not worth a nearly year-long wait, we don’t know what is. (Ed. Note: Nothing is worth that wait. Seriously, guys. Get it together.) Hockey is back! After a 5-month hiatus, the NHL is back for the 2020 playoffs, and we’re along for the ride.We speak with Dave Sandford (@Dave_Sandford), the NHL photographer who captured the amazing picture of Kadri’s (literal) last-second goal against the Blues, and he walks us through how you capture a moment like that, what it’s like living in the playoff bubble in Edmonton, and where that picture ranks among his favorite shots. Then we open up the phone lines (or Zoom room, whatever) and talk with a few of our listeners, with only minimal interference from trolls. It’s playoff time, everybody! Let’s go Avs! Love it or hate it, everybody had an opinion about last weekend's Stadium Series game at the US Air Force academy. Between multi-hour traffic delays, deep mug over most of the parking area, and concession stands running out of supplies there was a lot to complain about. There was also an entertaining game with fantastic production values set against an amazingly scenic backdrop. Grant Beery (@voteforgrant) and Erica (EricaAnd3cats) join us to tell their versions of the game. Ryan S. Clark is back to talk injuries:NBC Sports says it all happened after forward Matt Calvert was struck in the side head by an Elias Pettersson shot from point-blank range and remained down on the ice, bleeding from his head. The on-ice officials allowed play to continue and it ultimately resulted in Alex Edler scoring to bring to the Canucks to within one.Peter Forsberg is living his best life right now, and we have clips from a Swedish game show to prove it. (Teaser: Forsberg, or "Foppa," and another athlete dramatically slide beers across a table in a game somewhat similar to shuffleboard.)
