A 90s/00s family film nostalgia podcast hosted by Cory Woodroof and Charlie Ridgely.
Cory Woodroof, Charlie Ridgely
We're back! Well, kinda. Generation VHS Season 2 is back in action, but we've got the guys from It Ain't Ogre 'Til It's Ogre to recap the 2003 outback comedy Kangaroo Jack! Did the adventures of everyone's rapping kangaroo age well, or is this movie best left, y'know, like a baby for the dingos. Be sure to listen in to Will, Matt and Chris of It Ain't Ogre 'Til It's Ogre recap this Generation VHS selection, and listen to Charlie and Cory discuss The Master of Disguise over on their podcast! G'day, mates!
In honor of the debut of Cruella, Cory and Charlie head back to 1998 to unpack Disney's first live-action take on the character, 101 Dalmatians.
Charlie and Cory break from the tradition of underrated or forgotten movies to talk about one of the most pivotal films from the early 2000s. Along with CinemaBlend writer and It Ain't Ogre 'til It's Ogre host Will Ashton, the guys explore the DreamWorks Animation masterpiece that stole hearts, broke records, and became the first ever winner of the Best Animated Feature Oscar. Welcome to Duloc, ladies and gents. It's time for Shrek.
Cory and Charlie break out of the crib and take a journey in the Reptar Wagon to talk about Nickelodeon's big screen hit, The Rugrats Movie.
Cory and Charlie make their triumphant return with a movie that's best known for it's unique ability to fail. We're taking an adventure inside the human body, exploring 2001's box office bomb, Osmosis Jones.
Cory and Charlie spend the summer at Camp Hope with Ben Stiller, Tim McGowan, and Paul Feig, talking about the classic (and seriously underrated) Steven Brill gem, Heavyweights.
Cory and Charlie are joined by Cinemaholics host and Very Good Boy Jon Negroni for an... interesting discussion on everyone's favorite basketball-playing pooch, Air Bud.
With Cory trapped inside a deadly board game this week, Charlie is joined by special guest and fellow '90s nerd Jamie Jirak to break down the wonders of Jumanji.
Charlie and Cory break down Disney's 1992 franchise-starter The Mighty Ducks...and learn a little more about themselves along the way?
Head back to the stone ages with this week's episode of Generation VHS! The guys check out the 1994 blockbuster T.V. adaptation, Brian Levant's The Flintstones, and determine if this prehistoric critical flop is worth any nostalgia of if it's best left extinct. We discuss what works about this fascinating piece of consumerism and what doesn't in a conversation you won't take for ... granite. Be sure to follow us on Twitter at @GenVSHS and be on the lookout for our next episode next week!
After a week of technical delays (Rodney the hamster from Dr. Dolittle chewed our cords during our recording), we're back with a special Monday edition of Generation VHS! This week, we take a look at the 1997 Disney comedy Jungle 2 Jungle starring Gen. VHS staple, Tim Allen! This was the pilot episode the boys recorded, so if you hear them talking about snow, don't get too confused! It's our first-ever episode, hypothetically, but our fourth in the series! Charlie and Cory decipher the fish-out-of-water comedy and its, well, stranger elements, and determine if this is worth exploration of if it's best left behind. Be sure to follow us on Twitter at @GenVSHS and be on the lookout for our next episode, perhaps dropping in later this week...
It's time to turn the page on a new episode of Generation VHS, this week's edition taking a look at the 1994 animated/live-action fantasy film, The Pagemaster. Do Cory and Charlie enjoy revisiting this Macaulay Caulkin-led film or do they wish to return it to the library as soon as possible? Follow us at @GenVHS on Twitter and tune in for next week's episode!
Come sit with Cory and Charlie as they enjoy a fresh bite of Good Burger, the Nickelodeon feature comedy adapted from the Kenan & Kel sketch on All That. Does the tale of Good Burger facing off against new rival Mondo Burger still taste like it did all those years ago, or has it gotten stale? The guys discuss its validity all these years later and come to a square conclusion on whether or not to order this up again or leave it under the heating lamp. Follow us at @GenVHS on Twitter and tune in for next week's episode!
It's time to dust off your VCR, grab a Pizza Hut personal pan pizza and a Surge and join Cory Woodroof and Charlie Ridgely for the first episode of Generation VHS and a look at the Joe Dante film, Small Soldiers. What is this podcast, you say? Well, every week, Cory and Charlie will hop into a time machine and go back to the distant lands of the 1990s and 2000s and examine some of the stranger, deeper cut family films from that era. Basically, we're not doing The Lion King. If Disney is making a billion-dollar reboot of that film, it's been discussed enough. Instead, we want to give a new generation of nostalgia its fair day in court to determine if it's worth its mettle on a revisit. We've heard for years and years how the family films from the 80s pass this litmus test; what about the family films from the 90s and 00s? This first episode will feature a series overview from Woodroof and Ridgely and dive into Joe Dante's Small Soldiers. The guys discuss its past, its fascinating metatextual themes, the toy tie-in craze of the 90s and its place in the hallowed halls of Generation VHS. Be sure to follow us on Twitter @GenVHS and offer feedback in the form of a review if you like the show! Be kind, rewind, and we'll see you next time!
