People know him by many names, but, according to Nora Lang, he was called Little Thumb - and he was a clever chap! Settle in for a legend of terrible parents (though a more sympathetic mother) along with an Ogre, his wife, and his daughters, and the anticipated consumption of human flesh...If you are unfamiliar with the Lang Fairy Tales, these seminal collections were assembled between 1889 and 1913 by a married couple, folklorists and translators Nora and Andrew Lang, with most of the work done to compile them completed by Nora, also known as Leonora Blanche Alleyne.Assembled and published in 12 colour-coded "Fairy Books," the corpus the Langs put together included 798 fairy tales from across cultures, many of which had never before been translated into English. They were amongst the most influential books of their time, changing the course of children's literature - although they're hardly just for children, and often deal with quite challenging concepts.Today, purchasing a complete set of the Lang Fairy Books in good condition costs over £4,000 ($5,000+).Thankfully, the collections are all out of copyright, meaning that we can now tell these stories, in podcast form, many for the first time, and share them with a global audience, for free. Our plan is to release the stories between main series of Three Ravens, performing them straight (though with plenty of silly voices) letting the tales speak for themselves in all their madcap, sharp-edged, often quite bizarre glory. The only edits we have made are to amend some culturally-insensitive epithets, which typically pertain to ethnicity, with any such edits made by Eleanor Conlon.Three Ravens is an English Myth and Folklore podcast hosted by award-winning writers Martin Vaux and Eleanor Conlon.Released on Mondays, each weekly episode focuses on one of England's 39 historic counties, exploring the history, folklore and traditions of the area, from ghosts and mermaids to mythical monsters, half-forgotten heroes, bloody legends, and much, much more. Then, and most importantly, the pair take turns to tell a new version of an ancient story from that county - all before discussing what that tale might mean, where it might have come from, and the truths it reveals about England's hidden past...Bonus Episodes are released on Thursdays plus Local Legends episodes on Saturdays - interviews with acclaimed authors, folklorists, podcasters and historians with unique perspectives on that week's county. With a range of exclusive content on Patreon, too, including audio ghost tours, the Three Ravens Newsletter, and monthly Three Ravens Film Club episodes about folk horror films from across the decades, why not join us around the campfire and listen in?Learn more at www.threeravenspodcast.com, join our Patreon at www.patreon.com/threeravenspodcast, and find links to our social media channels here: https://linktr.ee/threeravenspodcastThree Ravens is a myth and folklore podcast hosted by Eleanor Conlon and Martin Vaux.In each Monday episode we explore a historic county, digging into heritage, folklore and traditions, then we tell a new version of a legend from that county. Submission guidelines can be found at http://www.TallTaleTV.com ---- About Tall Tale TV ---- Hi there! My name is Chris Herron and I'm an audiobook narrator. In 2015, I suffered from poor Type 1 diabetes control which lead me to become legally blind for almost a year. The doctors didn't give me much hope, predicting an 80% chance that I would never see again. But I refused to give up and changed my lifestyle drastically. Through sheer willpower (and an amazing eye surgeon) I beat the odds and regained my vision. During that difficult time, I couldn't read or write, which was devastating as they had always been a source of comfort for me since childhood. However, my wife took me to the local library where she read out the titles of audiobooks to me. I selected some of my favorite books, such as the Disc World series, Name of the Wind, Harry Potter, and more, and the audiobooks brought these stories to life in a way I had never experienced before. They helped me through the darkest period of my life and I fell in love with audiobooks. Once I regained my vision, I decided to pursue a career as an audiobook narrator instead of a writer. That's why I created Tall Tale TV, to support aspiring authors in the writing communities that I had grown to love before my ordeal. My goal was to help them promote their work by providing a promotional audio short story that showcases their writing skills to readers. They say the strongest form of advertising is word of mouth, so I offer a platform for readers to share these videos and help spread the word about these talented writers. Please consider sharing these stories with your friends and family to support these amazing authors. Chaz and AJ started the show by thanking everyone for showing up for the CT Pizza and Brew Fest yesterday, then got right into the Astronomer CEO losing his job after getting caught by the Coldplay concert. (0:00) Ogre joined Chaz and AJ in studio this morning to talk about spine tattoos being the latest big trend, and why it took him three days to tattoo his own penis. (17:04) Former Hartford Police Detective Brian Foley was on the phone with Chaz and AJ to address the Astronomer CEO controversy. Brian has investigated plenty of corporate crimes, and had a story from an Aerosmith concert to share. (36:49)

Welcome true believers to X-Men Horoscopes where each week our host Lodro Rinzler is in conversation with a special guest to discuss the X-Men issue that aligns with a significant month and year from their life and what that issue reveals about their future. This week, Top Banana/Group Editor for the X‑Men line Tom Breevort joins us for an exploration of his birth month and year X-Men issue. Tom discusses his meteoric rise in the ranks at Marvel from intern to editor and VP, why Tom told them they didn't want him editing X-Men, and a look at his wish list for future X-projects. We cover X-Men 28 which Tom fights with Lodro about because he claims this is NOT his birth month and year issue. Also in this episode: Tom's favorite comics from the Krakora era Lodro picks a fight about the Cyclops/Jean Grey/Wolverine throuple Which X character does Tom plan to champion next? the introduction of the biggest threat the X-Men ever faced (spoiler: it's just the Banshee and he spends the majority of the issue running errands) how creators get the credit and editors get the blame Lodro dated The Ogre Jean is just trying to get a goddamn education The Ogre is bad at distractions All this plus Tom's advice for handling intense criticism. What does any of this mean for his future? Tune in to find out! Tom Breevort is a highly respected comic book editor and executive who has been a driving force at Marvel since starting as a college intern in 1989. He steadily climbed the ranks—from assistant editor to Executive Editor in 2007—overseeing major series like New Avengers, Civil War, Fantastic Four, and Avengers vs. X‑Men. Promoted in January 2011 to Senior Vice President of Publishing, Tom became Marvel's longest‑serving editor and, in 2024, took on the role of Group Editor for the X‑Men line amid the From the Ashes relaunch, all while retaining his VP and Executive Editor titles. Episode 26 – HDYS Interview with Matt Rossi! Show Notes Welcome to Episode 26! – 2:03 A wide-ranging interview with games journalist and fiction writer Matt Rossi! I'm not even going to pretend to make a list of topics, but we talk about starting hit WoW career with his wife, how to approach WoW when your job demands that you spoil all new content as soon as it hits test servers, and his need to dive into lore in any game. Plenty of talk about lore and storytelling in WoW throughout the years and how the Wrathgate was a turning point in how the stories are delivered to us, the players. We even get into the true purpose of any fiction in our human existence. We also discuss Matt's ongoing visual disability, a form of blindness that he explains in more detail. July is the celebration month for Disability Pride, and in hopes of sharing awareness of disability and accommodations in video games, he explains how his severe visual impairment affects his play of Warcraft and other types of games. It turns out that flexible difficulty and voice acting are two great accessibility options. Developers take notice. Lightning Round! – 1:19:53 This round of 8 questions is not quick, but it takes the form of “Two Lizzes and a Joe (and a Cory)”. Outro – 1:31:13 Thanks to Blizzard for the amazing music and sound, to OGRE for intro/outro music, my lovely and supportive wife, and you for listening. Big thank you to Matt! Chris Murphy: Firearm Suppressors ‘Primarily Designed for Crime' Reviews ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - from PokerFace - The cast of We Like Shooting are a gamey bunch, both in odor and what the do in their spare time. As we sit around the poker table of WLS how would we equate each cast member to a hand of Poker, 5 card stud of course because these guys are all about 5 studs. First we have Aaron, never first in many things but here we compare him to a Full House, Queens over Jacks, because if anything we know he keeps his house full and is jack'n it to queens. Next is the venerable Nick Lynch. Of course he is a Straight Flush. A solid cast member who brings a lot to the table, but isn't always solid in other rooms of the house. Following Nick we have Savage, always traipsing behind and in this case just like real life he is pretty paltry at the table. He is High Card, other wise known as nothing and often High. But we keep him around to sit in the cuck chair. Almost last but certainly not least is Jeremy. Jeremy is 3 of a Kind. With 4 kids in tow he is trying to build out his fire team one hand at a time but missed on the last deal to make it 4 girls. Congrats on the Son. Last we have the Dealer of this Game. Constantly shuffling the guests to have the best content, Turning and Burning unworthy Sponsors and always ready to Flop out on the table. Shawn is represented by a Pair, and in this case a Low Pair.

Big thanks to Ali for coming on for Episode 24 and to Ali and Gin for having me on Live, Laugh, Lore to talk starting zones! Warcraft 30th Anniversary Event in Boston – 16:22 The second celebration was 90 minutes south of SQ headquarters in the fair city of Boston. While my plan to get news and good audio for the podcast was thwarted, I did spend quality time with an old friend, make a new friend, and get away from my normal routine for a night. Afterwards, I connected with WoW community members Stromgarde Enjoyer (https://bsky.app/profile/nilocor.bsky.social) and meggoart (https://bsky.app/profile/meggoart.bsky.social) to get their reactions to the Boston event. Nightfall and Dastardly Duos haven't quite had the same effect. Professions Pre-Planning? – 1:30:46 The other exciting project that returned me to the game was establishing a roster to cover all the professions and getting them all to 80. This is the beginning of the prep for an eventual episode on professions, a system that I think borders on being too complicated. Main Topic: Best WoW NPC Tournament Coverage Rounds 4, 5, and 6 – 1:42:28 Probably not really the main topic, but this is the exciting culmination of a process that took far too long.
Wandering tribes of Ogres can be found wrecking their way across the globe, erecting many strongholds and plundering far off and exotic lands the likes of which no man will ever see in their lifetime. Yet no matter how far away they may be, all Ogres refer to the scattered tribal kingdoms that dominate the slopes and river valleys of the Mountains of Mourn their rightful, hard-earned homeland. It is here, amongst the frozen peaks and blistering blizzards that mighty Tyrants rule over their own brutal kingdoms, warring amongst each other, looting, extorting and ransacking all before them as a tribute to their own gluttonous appetite and their ever-hungry "god," the Great Maw.Support the show
