Jordan and Brooke are rejoined by Caitlin Durante (The Bechdel Cast) for a simple Shrek-tastic visit to Duloc. Along with a healthy dose of memes, we break down the "edgy" anti-Disney sentiment, marginalized fairytale creatures, Lord Farquaad's casual ethnic cleansing, how inescapable to the culture this was, and if this film is actually quite queer!Follow us on Twitter and IG!

Lord Farquaad's ghost returned to defeat Shrek! During this spooky time of year we are going to explore a tale that is filled with ghosts, the undead, and of course an egotistical villain. Today we are discussing Lord Farquaad’s ghostly existence after he was eaten by Dragon, his attempts to get revenge, and the possible reasons Duloc eventually fell.
Shrek is an anti-social and highly-territorial green ogre who loves the solitude of his swamp. His life is interrupted after the dwarfish Lord Farquaad of Duloc unknowingly exiles a vast number of fairy-tale creatures to Shrek's swamp.

We are venturing into the world of Shrek to discuss why Prince Charming failed to rescue Fiona before Shrek! How is it possible that Shrek arrived at Fiona's tower and Dragon’s Keep before the man who was meant to become the king of Far Far Away. With Fairy Godmother behind Charming, shouldn’t Fiona being saved by that man have come at a priority. How did Duloc’s ruler Lord Farquaad beat Charming to recruit a champion? SOME-BODY once told us to get making some waffles and rewatch Shrek. We’re so glad we did, as the amount of adult jokes in this film that flew over our heads as kids makes it worth a rewatch almost 20 years later. On the surface, Shrek really should not have worked as a film. It (literally) shits on the classic fairytale genre, is full of (somehow not dated?) pop culture references, and at last minute had the whole of Shreks lines re-recorded with a Scottish accent. Yet directors Andrew Adamson & Vicky Jensen knew exactly what they were doing, as the final result was not only hilarious and wildy entertaining, but went on to win the first ever Academy Award for Best Animated Feature (beating out Pixar’s Monsters Inc by the way). Also, the internet is actually obsessed with it. Google Shrek meme and you’re met with a mix of hilarious and worrying results (Shrek is Love, Shrek is Life being the latter). Though in all honestly, Shrek and the inhabitants of Duloc wouldn’t want it any other way. Joining us all the way from NYC for this one is Dylan. He’s back by popular demand after laying down the pizza law on our Nightcrawler ep (Joes Pizza in Greenwich if you’re asking). Here D switches out crispy crusts for some crispy commentary on our green friend and all things Duloc. We also have a short of the week, Commute by Scott Lazer. This ones based in NYC, in case there wasn’t already enough New Yorker attitude on this episode. Link in bio. Enjoy.

In this episode of DreamMachine, Patricia and Arun discuss about the 2001 animated film Shrek based on the book by William Steig. The movie focuses on an ogre named Shrek living his life alone in the swamp and scaring people away who wish to catch him for money. However, everything changes when he encounters a talking donkey and a group of fairy tale creatures were forced to move out of their homes in a perfect town called Duloc by Lord Farquaad to the swamp. Meanwhile, Lord Farquaad sends Shrek to rescue a princess named Fiona from a tower guarded by a dragon in exchange for clearing his swamp. So, Shrek and Donkey embark on the quest and begin to learn more about each other and the princess who holds a deep dark secret. When the movie premiered in theaters, it garnered critical praise and made over $484 million in the box office. It won Best Animated Feature in the 74th Academy Awards beating Monsters, Inc. and Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius. It gave DreamWorks a big boost of notoriety to compete against Pixar in producing animated films for kids and adults as well as starting a huge franchise with sequels, specials, plays, video games, and pop culture infamy. With that said, does the first movie still hold up after almost 20 years later? Is Shrek still love and life?
This is for my history class so unless you wanna learn about how some 25 year old creep decided to change and entire country to basically Duloc from shrek then I wouldn’t listen to this.

The beloved movie with Austin Powers as an ogre and Axel Foley as a donkey: Shrek. On episode 2 of Hindsight is Horrifying, Jason and I (@Darth_ Jader_) explore the movie that actually inspired this horrendous podcast. Upon reviewing this movie, Jason and I also have to move past the fact that both Mike Myers (Love Guru) and Eddie Murphy (Spice Girl knock-ups/transvestite prostitutes) have essentially disappeared from Hollywood even after all their (mostly) successful movies. That being said, Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow) is the nightmarish tool who tortures personified cookies. But does that surprise anyone? I mean, Duloc is just Disney World run by a tiny Hitler who steals the Facebook logo and uses it for his own personal branding.Surprisingly, this “kids' movie” touches on sensitive subjects like segregation and body image. Fairy tale creatures are facing tough times all around. You guys, Peter Pan actually SELLS Tinker Bell and *spoiler alert* Mama Bear gets murdered and turned into a RUG!On a lighter note, Cameron Diaz is both ugly and pretty…based on your fetish. And Jason informs me that Shrek was originally supposed to be livin' in a van down by the RIVER! Ultimately, the question to answer at the end of this particular DreamWorks movie is this: Is it okay to kiss a dead person? Find out on this week's edition of Hindsight is Horrifying. Did I just refer you back to our site while you read an episode description on said site? You're damned right I did. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Luis put in his years as a Universal Studios tour guide so that you, the listener, could be regaled with tales ranging from giving a VIP tour to a certain CA Governator to the ridiculous costume his union rep was wearing when he was let go from the job (dude had to go back to Duloc after the meeting). From Courthouse Square (downtown Hill Valley in Back to the Future) to Colonial Street (Wisteria Lane in Desperate Housewives), Luis knows the ins and outs of the lot so well it often distracts him when he's watching one of the plethora of projects that have shot there. He's got plenty of battle stars, but he knows how much the experience trained him to roll with the punches while commanding the attention of 200 confused tourists. And he has a killer Simpsons story to boot. Thanks to Cards Against Humanity for sponsoring and the Chicago Podcast Cooperative for allowing MBSing to be a part of a bigger podcasting picture.

The Rotoscopers review DreamWorks' second CGI animated film, the amazing, hilarious, irreverent Shrek. Highlights Main Discussion: Shrek (2001) Morgan and Chelsea saw this movie in theatres together and bonded over the fairy tale and Disney parodies. Mason goes in depth about the lighting, rigging, animation and character designs. Animation technology really shows its age. So quotable! John Powell did the score. He's like a Rotoscoper for music--Disney, DreamWorks, and everything in between. New DREAMWORKS theory: all DreamWorks films are biblical. Which Eddie Murphy character is better? Donkey or Mushu? This movie works because it points out the ridiculousness of fairy tales. Duloc is a ripoff of Disneyland. But it's hilarious. Donkey is so dense, but it's what makes him so endearing. The theme of layers really is critical to the whole film. The blatant transformation ripoff of the Beast's transformation. The toes!
