Hey team! This week, I'm talking with Jamie Shapiro, ADHD coach, founder of Silver Linings Transitions, and host of the Grandma Has ADHD podcast. Jamie has also recently published her book This Explains So Much, which dives into the world of undiagnosed ADHD in people over 50. Jamie brings a wealth of experience from her work helping older adults downsize and organize their lives. In our conversation, we dig into what aging looks like with ADHD—from memory changes to social isolation—and how curiosity, compassion, and the power of community can make a huge difference. We get into the challenges of different stages of life, how ADHD can be mistaken for dementia, and what it means to build understanding across generations. I think this is definitely an episode for everyone, as no matter how you slice it, we're all going to be facing these issues someday, and because of the genetic nature of ADHD, you likely already have someone in your life dealing with these issues. If you'd life to follow along on the show notes page you can find that at HackingYourADHD.com/256 YouTube: https://tinyurl.com/y835cnrk Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/HackingYourADHD This Episode's Top Tips Many symptoms that get labeled as "senior moments" (forgetting names, losing track of appointments, or misplacing items) can actually be longstanding ADHD traits that are finally being noticed. Forgetfulness that comes from ADHD doesn't need memory-care protocols; instead, it needs ADHD strategies such as reminders, structure, external cues, and tools like smartwatches or calendars. As we age, we can risk drifting into isolation, and this can be especially true with ADHD. We already struggle with time blindness, motivation, and this can easily lead to dropping the ball on keeping up with friends and family. This means it's important that we're scheduling regular check-ins with friends and doing things like joining a hobby group. We can revisit our relationships and recognize that your parents (or kids) with ADHD were just trying to do their best; reframing these patterns can transform your relationship. Instead of replaying the same old fights, you start from a place of compassion. It's not about forgiving the past; it's about giving context and finding a way to move forward with the relationship.

This week's episode features Ben Carrey of Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, and I couldn't be more thrilled to share this with one with you!!  Pigeons is one of my favorite bands — I absolutely love their brand of rollicking, funky rock. Their jams are simply exquisite, and Ben drives this forward motion with his unique style on bass guitar.  Pigeons' eighth album, Feed The Fire is out now, and they're headed out on their Fall tour — catch them while you can!Ben is super thoughtful and a gentle and kind soul, and he talks to me about growing up a shy kid in Baltimore — and we discuss how Ben's unique (some may say unorthodox) style of playing has shaped the Pigeons signature sound. Ben is quite literary and very well read and we go down that rabbit hole a bit… with his love of Physics mixed in just for fun.Ben also talks to me about mental health and some of the challenges he faces. He's super open with a striking and honest self-awareness that is utterly refreshing.  This is an epic conversation with this talented artist, and I can't wait to share this one with you.=======================================Chapters:00:00 Episode Intro with Host Josh Rosenberg04:38  Introducing Ben Carrey07:17 Celebrating the New Album and Touring Experiences10:21 Collaboration with The Infamous Stringdusters13:15 Exploring Musical Influences and Techniques 16:08 Fretless Bass and Its Unique Qualities 19:10 Cultural Connections and Personal Reflections 22:11 Musical Relationships and Band Dynamics 25:03 The Science of Music and Connection 28:10 Growing Up and Family Ties 33:35 Nostalgia and Family Connections 35:39 The Power of Solitude and Self-Discovery 36:42 Literary Influences and Early Interests 39:38 The Fascination with Physics and Quantum Mechanics 43:49 The Intersection of Science and Spirituality 45:29 The Magic of Music and Sound 48:11 Musical Beginnings and the Journey to Bass 54:04 Overcoming Fear and Embracing Performance 55:46 Mental Health Challenges and the Music Industry 59:40 Finding Balance and Support in Music 01:04:03 Connecting with the Audience and Personal Growth 01:06:18 The Power of Connection and Community 01:08:36 Psychedelics and Mental Health 01:13:52 The Journey of Self-Discovery 01:17:31 The Significance of 'Hit the Ground Running' 01:20:27 Collaborative Evolution in Music 01:24:45 The Impact of Live Performances 01:27:51 Dome Fest and New Beginnings 01:31:32 Looking Ahead: Future Plans and Festivals=======================================For more information on Roadcase:https://linktr.ee/roadcasepod and https://www.roadcasepod.comOr contact Roadcase by email:  info@roadcasepod.comRoadcase theme music:  "Eugene (Instrumental)" by Waltzer

Join Matt Skinner, Karoline Lewis, and Rolf Jacobson for the Sermon Brainwave podcast as they explore the texts for the First Sunday of Advent, Year A. This episode kicks off the new church year with a deep dive into themes of watchfulness, waiting, and Christ's coming in history, mystery, and majesty. In this episode, the hosts discuss: * Isaiah 2:1-5 and the vision of peace among nations * Psalm 122 and Jerusalem as a means of grace * Romans 13:11-14 on waking from sleep and walking in the light * Matthew 24:36-44 and the mystery of Christ's coming The conversation addresses common misinterpretations of the "rapture" theology, examines what it means to be ready and watchful during Advent, and reflects on the contested reality of Jerusalem today in contrast to the biblical vision of peace. You may feel eager to start fresh, yet drawn to revisit old territory. This episode walks you through each major transit and how to stay grounded through the shifting tides of November. From November 1–9—and again around the 20th—you'll feel renewed motivation for projects, new routines, and setting intentions. Mid-month, Mercury retrograde in Scorpio asks you to slow down, look within, and tie up unfinished business. It's an ideal time to journal, re-study, and deepen spiritual practice.Jupiter retrograde in Cancer continues its theme of emotional growth and inner faith. Patience pays off—what's evolving now is meant to nourish your soul, not rush ahead. Sun in Libra and Venus moving from Virgo to Libra bring relationships into focus. The lesson this month: balance head and heart. The longest journey is the six inches from your head to your heart. Presence and honesty matter more than perfection.Rahu in Aquarius and Ketu in Leo keep transforming your sense of purpose and identity. Life may feel like improv theater—commit fully to your role, then release it when the scene changes. Venus in Libra supports harmony, beauty, and connection, while her shift into Scorpio later in the month brings deeper intimacy and transformation. The Full Moon in Bharani Nakshatra (Aries) on November 5th highlights themes of birth, surrender, and creative renewal. This is a powerful time to let go of control and trust life's cycles.Throughout the episode, I share practical ways to stay balanced—through journaling, yoga, and steady daily rhythm—so you can flow with these energies rather than against them.Get your Free Vedic Birth Chart & Big 3 Training:http://www.quietmindastrology.com/freebirthchartInstagram: http://www.instagram.com/quietmindastrologyYouTube: http://www.quietmindastrology.com/youtubeMentorship Waitlist: http://www.quietmindastrology.com/mentorshipYoga Teacher Training Podcast: https://www.anchor.fm/yogateachertrainingQuietmind Yoga: https://www.quietmind.yoga
