Slam The Gavel podcast welcomes back Julie M. Anderson Holburn. Julie was last on Season 6, Episode 319 and February 6th, 2023. Today we discussed how family court is treated like a "Kangaroo Court," and makes it appear to be "an excuse," for its BAD BEHAVIOR. We talked about several cases, one of them being the Taran Nolan case in Orange County, CA and how that was mishandled. The judiciary has gone rogue long enough, and this has been an ongoing problem nationwide, destroying parental bonds with their children by judges with little to no education in psychology or child psychological abuze. Up for discussion was the changes happening in Idaho and Arizona. We also discussed the article written by Greg Larose on 12-10-2025, "Lawmakers Fear DCFS Reorganization Could Cost Louisiana Experienced Child Welfare Workers," and how this could be a good thing. To Reach Julie M. Pool Pros text questions hereOn this Mondays Down Under episode of the Talking Pools Podcast, Shane in Auckland and Lee on the chilly NSW coast are joined by Jamie from Aquatec, a family business that's been making swimming pool liners since the late 1970s. They dive into how vinyl liners have evolved from “one blue fits all” to highly engineered, custom-fit solutions for everything from tired old concrete pools to wild freeform designs with benches, bar stools, and beach entries.Jamie shares the story of taking over the business from his father and sister, partnering with an Australian manufacturer to bring in cutting-edge 3D measuring technology, and how a smart pivot into refurbishments kept them thriving when new builds slowed down. The trio also tackle a listener question from Debbie in Florida about liquid chlorine and vinyl, unpack myths around chlorine damage, talk calcium hardness in liner pools, and swap some unforgettable insurance stories—kangaroos, cows, and pole-vaulting kids included. If you've ever hesitated to recommend vinyl, or wondered how long a liner really lasts when it's properly maintained and balanced, this episode is your masterclass. The Kangaroos may have slayed the AFLW Lions, cricketers with pink balls are poised to stampede the Gabba but the Ruck 'n Roll headline this week is the home invasion you won't read about in the papers or hear about on the nightly news. We have the EXCLUSIVE inside story with graphic details of the invaders' entry via the bathroom window, ransacking of rooms and a full-on confrontation with the victim before fleeing via a front window. This is the harrowing tale of Stephen (not his full name) a suburban septuagenarian set upon by a gang (for dramatic purposes two is a gang) of ... pigeons! And you thought the dachshund story was hilarious. Wait 'til you hear this one. But wait, there is more - including some sensible sports talk. And in our food travels, we have reached the main course and feathers will fly and fry. Step back to July 7, 1985, Carlaw Park... a mud-soaked cauldron where New Zealand’s rugby league pride clashed with the might of the Australians. In the latest episode of Kärcher’s “Blast from the Past,” hosts ACC Head G Lane, Dai Henwood, and Dylan Cleaver relive a series that was anything but a dead rubber. The Aussies may have led the series 2-0, but the third test became a defining moment in the Trans-Tasman rivalry. The buildup was electric: fierce clashes, controversial coaching decisions, and a notorious brawl between Kevin Tamati and Graham Dowling set the tone. The Kiwis, still reeling from a heartbreaking loss in the second test, found themselves rejuvenated by a surprise show of public support orchestrated by coach Graham Lowe. Meanwhile, the Australian camp was in turmoil, divided by state rivalries and coach Terry Fearnley’s contentious team selections. What unfolded was historic. The Kiwis dominated, shutting out the Kangaroos 18-0, the first time Australia had been held scoreless since the 1950s. Heroes emerged, legends were born, and the victory marked a turning point for New Zealand players seeking opportunities across the Tasman. We all recognise the media landscape has changed dramatically over the past 40 years, and for creatives like today's guest, working as a director is a masterclass in embracing change. Joining us is Australian director Kate Woods to share her insights about the evolution of the television sector behind the camera and the project that brought her back to Australia. She's worked on some of the biggest titles on the small screen in Australia and the US, including Aussie favourites like GP, All Saints, Farscape and City Homicide, and US titles including Without a Trace, the Law and Order franchises, The Umbrella Academy, Agents of Shield, and The Good Lord Bird. You'll also likely recognise her debut feature film – the Aussie teen hit of 2000, Looking for Alibrandi – which this year celebrates 25 years since release. Kate reflects on her experiences working in the industry across film and TV in Australia and abroad, her approach to selecting projects, the influence of music in her work, and why she ignored the screen adage to never work with children or animals in her latest project, Kangaroo.

With special guests: Brendan Morris & Stephan Wellink… in conversation with Bill Kable The Thornetts, a band of brothers as Shakespeare might have called them. Today we explore what makes a champion when we hear about a sporting giant from 1960’s Australia, namely Richard, or as he was more commonly known, Dick Thornett. Dick was the youngest in a family of champions. Dick’s oldest brother was John who became the Captain of the Australian Rugby team, the Wallabies. Under John, the Wallabies had a legendary tour of South Africa. The next brother Ken also played Rugby at a representative level but is best known for his Rugby League abilities. Starting his Rugby League career in England he became known as the Mayor of Leeds before he came back to Australia representing Parramatta and Australia in the Kangaroos. Dick is called “the Natural” because he was so good at any sport he turned his hand to. After representing Australia in water polo at the 1960 Olympics in Rome he went on to represent Australia in two very different sports namely Rugby and Rugby League. Podcast (mp3)

The Pacific Championship wraps this weekend with Sunday's decider between the Kiwis and Toa Samoa. The Kiwis dominated Tonga last week in front of a record 39,000 strong crowd at Eden Park, cinching their spot in the final. But even though the Kangaroos aren't involved, the NRL have decided the final will be hosted in Sydney, despite efforts from the New Zealand Rugby League. CEO Greg Peters told Mike Hosking they would've loved to have hosted the whole thing in New Zealand, as the two fixtures we did host were pretty successful. However, he said, the NRL is the big dog in town, and they wanted content in the Australian market ahead of the World Cup, which is being hosted there next year. When Jesus returns to Pilate, both rulers affirm His innocence, yet the crowd—stirred by corrupt leaders—demands Barabbas, the rebel, be freed instead. In choosing a violent insurrectionist over the Prince of Peace, the people reveal humanity's tragic preference for earthly power over spiritual deliverance.Key theme: Humanity exchanges the true Son of God for a counterfeit “son of the father” (Barabbas).

The Kangaroos have claimed The Ashes and now brace for a clean-sweep! But Michael Chammas, Danny Weidler & Adam Peacock are back to review the fallout from Game Two! Reece Walsh unfortunately copped homophobic slurs from some of the English fans and Chammas spoke to the fullback after the game. And the number 1 had a cheeky response in true Reece Walsh fashion. The crew discuss potential changes to the Kangaroos squad for Game Three and break down what happened with prankster Matt Jarvis who lined up with the Aussie team for the anthem! Chammas also chatted with Cameron Munster who had an honest reflection about his former Melbourne Storm teammate Ryan Papenhuyzen who last week surprisingly walked away from his contract with the club. The boys reflect on Eliesa Katoa who copped three head knocks and how that whole process was handled as New Zealand made light work of Tonga. Matthew Johns is now minority owner of Gold Coast Titans and Weidler has the latest on how that unfolded. Keaon Koloamatangi is testing the open market and is asking for a lot of money. Could he leave Souths? And why is Danny Weidler a jahesh?! (A donkey in Arabic). Michael Chammas explains!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

You've probably seen those viral images of kangaroos chilling in shallow water, seemingly inviting you to join them. But in Australia, it's likely they're trying to hurt you. Some folks on social media say kangaroos might lure predators into the water to drown them, using their strength to hold heads underwater. While there's evidence of this tactic with animals like dogs, it's not clear if kangaroos would do this to humans. They usually use water to escape threats, not as a murder strategy. Still, it's best to keep your distance and definitely keep your dogs out of the water if a kangaroo is around. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
