64 years ago, The Flintstones became the first ever animated prime time sitcom in the US, and 30 years ago, the live-action film was released. A live action adaptation of The Flintstones first came about in 1985, but it wouldn't be 'til Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment acquired the rights in 1992 that the project started moving forward, but by that point eight writers had already had a crack at the script...Once Spielberg, and mega fan director Brian Levant, got involved, many more writers would have a pass, but only three would ever be credited for their work after the Writer's Guild of America got involved.Credit to the team of writers behind The Flintstones...Steven E. de SouzaDaniel GoldinJoshua GoldinPeter Martin WortmannRobert ConteMitch MarkowitzJeffrey RenoRon OsbourneMichael J. The Flintstones is a 1994 American family comedy film directed by Brian Levant and written by Tom S. The B-52's performed their version of the cartoon's theme song, playing cavemen versions of themselves as the BC-52's.The film, shot in California, was theatrically released on May 27, 1994. It received mostly negative reviews from critics but was a box office success grossing almost $342 million worldwide against a $46 million budget. A tie-in promotion with McDonald's was made to promote the film. The movie was originally acquired by New Line Cinema, but then sold to Universal Pictures.A prequel titled The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas was released in 2000. The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas is a 2000 American romantic comedy film directed by Brian Levant, written by Jim Cash, Harry Elfont, Deborah Kaplan, and Jack Epps, Jr., and is the prequel to Levant's The Flintstones (1994), based on the 1960–1966 animated television series of the same name. Who said you could eat my cookies!?"Jingle All the Way" is a festive family comedy that takes audiences on a humorous and chaotic ride through the bustling streets of Minneapolis during the Christmas season. Directed by Brian Levant and released in 1996, the film stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as Howard Langston, a workaholic dad determined to secure the elusive Turbo-Man action figure for his son Jamie, played by Jake Lloyd.Set on Christmas Eve, the story unfolds as Howard realizes he has forgotten to purchase Jamie's most coveted Christmas gift, the Turbo-Man doll. What follows is a madcap adventure through crowded malls, toy stores, and holiday chaos as Howard faces the relentless pursuit of the Turbo-Man toy, which has become the must-have item of the season. As Howard encounters equally desperate shoppers, including the persistent and competitive postal worker Myron, portrayed by Sinbad, the film satirizes the extreme lengths people go to during the holiday shopping frenzy. The narrative not only serves up a hilarious commentary on the commercialization of Christmas but also delves into the importance of family and being present during the holiday season. The comedic journey reaches its climax during the Turbo-Man Parade, a spectacle that combines slapstick humor with heartwarming moments. Ultimately, "Jingle All the Way" delivers a blend of physical comedy, memorable quotes, and a touching exploration of the true meaning of Christmas, making it a beloved and enduring holiday classic.Check out the merch:  http://shop.backinthedaypodcast.comFriends of the Show1 Man Mafia (twitch.tv/1man_mafia)Jayke The Gamer God (twitch.tv/JaykeTheGamerGod)IB Best Gaming (https://www.tiktok.com/@ibbestgaming)Intro for the shopSupport the show'Beavis and Butt-head' Cover art created by Joe Crawford

But you'll have a good time hearing them commiserate about the experience for two hours. Why would a movie cast Arnold Schwarzeneggar to play a normal man? He was a writer on Happy Days, Mork & Mindy, The Jeffersons, and Still The Beaver. He directed movies like Beethoven, Snow Dogs, The Spy Next Door, Are We There Yet?, and many more. But he's probably best known for directing The Flintstones movies and Jingle All The Way. And not only did he direct Jingle All The Way, he oversaw the creation of Turbo Man! Writer, director, and author Brian Levant joins us this week to talk about his early interest in the entertainment business, how he came to write for some of the most iconic television shows ever made, working on The Flintstones, designing Turbo Man, and his book, My Life And Toys. My Life And Toys is an original book of photographs and text by the noted director/writer/producer Brian Levant, presenting his extraordinary collection of animated feature and comic toys, including hundreds of iconic characters represented in figures, banks, games, lunchboxes, puppets, comics, windups, vehicles and items at the bottom of cereal boxes. This comprehensive and one-of-a-kind collection and book/work, itself, is presented in varied chapters. There are chapters here that include the author's Flintstones collection; others created while he produced features with Steven Spielberg; or those acquired while producing classic TV shows, like Mork & Mindy. And this is just a small sampling of what is in this exhaustive book, where the sum total has been acquired over the past 50 years. This is a book distinctive in its content; in both words and the hundreds of original photographs created exclusively for it. Brian's acclaim and success as a producer of popular culture film and television features allows presentation here of a distinctly individual and personal yet universally interesting book for collectors and the general public alike. Brian talked about growing up outside of Chicago and how he loved TV from a young age. We also talked about his journey to his 1st job writing on Happy Days, where he later became a show runner, getting his vision for a new Leave it Beaver on tv, his 1st feature directing gig w/ Problem Child 2, his new book "My Life and Toys", Turboman, and more. One of the coolest cats I know, Brian's work includes directing and producing some of my favorite films growing up such as Problem Child 2, The Flintstones, Jingle all the Way, Are we there Yet?, Scooby Doo, Snow Dogs, and was also a writer back in the day on Happy Days and Mork and Mindy. We geeked out over film history, we conversed of mutual favorite comics like Red Skelton and Buster Keaton, favorite classics, the importance of comedy, and so much more. We also delved into his early influences, journey into filmmaking, writing, working with John Ritter and Arnold Schwarzenegger, favorite films, and his book based on his personal collection and passion for collectible toys, ‘My Life and Toys'.
