Headset: The Oberlin Theater Department Podcast

In this episode, Peter and Lucas are joined by Kari Barclay, Visiting Assistant Professor of Theater at Oberlin with a focus on both theater history and intimacy direction. The three discuss Professor Barclay's experiences with intimacy directing as well as their work with the LGBTQ+ community and queer representation on stage, as showcased in several new plays of their own creation.

In this episode, Peter and Lucas talk with student director Emily Newmark about her capstone project Next to Normal. The trio discusses everything from the mental health aspects of the show to Emily's motivations behind choosing a musical like Next to Normal. In this episode, Lucas and Peter are joined by Obies recently involved in a production of Ma Rainey's Black Bottom at Karamu House: Justin Emeka as director and actor, Jaris Owens, Ro Miller, and Cyril Amanfo as actors. The four discuss their experiences with the show and the characters they played, as well as, in the case of Miller and Amanfo, working on their first professional production while also being students.

Clara Zucker, Zoe Senese-Grossberg, and Cyril Amanfo are three students in Justin Emeka's Directing 3 class and are directing their own plays throughout the month of August. The trio provide our hosts with some insight into the art of directing and the approaches they take to crafting a show.
