Holidays are a great time to enjoy with the family. For most families, most of that time is spent eating! We've brought back a popular show from last year in which one of our pediatric dietician provided lots of helpful tips on how to eat healthier during the holidays.
In this episode, we invited Dr. Dan Hsu to discuss the five common myths about vaping and the dangers of children and teenagers using e-cigarettes. One in 5 high school kids and one in 20 middle school kids used e-cigarettes in 2018.
Did you know that sudden cardiac death is the leading cause of death in young athletes during sports? Given this fact, it’s important for student athletes to have a pre-participation physical evaluation (PPE) and EKG or ECG screening to determine their risk for heart and other health conditions that may place them at higher risk of injury, illness and death. To talk more about PPE and EKG screening for your child, we invited Tony Milian, the administrative director of Joe Ds U18 sports medicine program, to today’s show.

In this episode, we talk to Jamal who has been cystic fibrosis patient at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital since his infancy. Jamal, now a young adult and an aspiring filmmaker, talks about his journey as a cystic fibrosis patient. Cystic fibrosis is a progressive, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and limits the ability to breathe over time. In people with CF, mutations in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) gene cause the CFTR protein to become dysfunctional.

Journal of Pediatrics study published in 2012 found that cheerleading is the most dangerous sport for females because of the high risk for concussions and “catastrophic” injuries (injuries that result in long-term medical conditions, permanent disabilities or a shorter lifespan).
