With his shag haircut and white Stratocaster guitar, Jeff Beck was an icon known and loved by millions. Yet somehow, he maintained the ineffable low profile cool of a cult hero as he glided through six decades of musical trends with nary a lapse in taste. Not to say he ever played it safe. What other guitarist can lay claim to performing with opera star Luciano Pavarotti, mainstream television personality Kelly Clarkson, and professional degenerates like Guns N' Roses with equal grace and wit? Or as Beck himself once quipped, “I'm an awkward son of a bitch when it comes to doing the expected.” In Blow by Blow: The Jeff Beck Story (Da Capo, 2026), Brad Tolinski and Chris Gill return to chart the unexplored life of rock's greatest and perhaps most enigmatic instrumentalist. Culled from approximately 30 hours of interviews with the late guitarist himself, numerous conversations with those closest to him, and extensive research, the book sheds new light on the genius that Jimmy Page once said, “shifted the whole sound and face of electric guitar music.” Learn more about your ad choices. Episode #356Paul Klimson has spent more than two decades behind the scenes helping some of the biggest artists in the world sound their best. As a world-class monitor engineer and audio professional, he has worked with an extraordinary roster that includes Justin Timberlake, Drake, Madonna, John Legend, The Roots, Kelly Clarkson, Eric Clapton, and countless others. His career has taken him from international tours and major festivals to iconic television productions, including more than 900 episodes of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where he helped build and manage the show's audio infrastructure and worked alongside musical guests ranging from Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen to Kendrick Lamar and U2.Known throughout the industry for his technical expertise, calm demeanor, and relentless work ethic, Paul has earned the trust of artists performing on the world's biggest stages. His credits span Saturday Night Live, Eurovision, the Cannes Film Festival, the Super Bowl, and multiple record-breaking world tours, including Justin Timberlake's 20/20 Experience Tour and Madonna's Celebration Tour. After what he jokingly calls his "retirement" from touring, Paul shifted his focus to building something even bigger. Alongside his wife Courtney, he founded Theory One Studios in Niles, Michigan, a state-of-the-art Dolby Atmos recording and production facility that combines vintage analog character with cutting-edge technology. The studio serves artists from around the world while also supporting the couple's broader vision for independent music creation and distribution. That vision now includes Brass Alley Live, an immersive live music venue and broadcast space currently under development, and SoulSeed.tv, a subscription-based music platform designed to put more money back into the hands of independent artists. Together, these ventures are creating a new ecosystem where musicians, crews, and creators can thrive outside traditional industry models.Paul is also the co-founder of The Roadie Clinic, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of touring professionals and their families. Much of what he is building today is designed to create sustainable funding and long-term support for the people who make live entertainment possible.Whether discussing life on the road, mixing for some of music's biggest names, building a next-generation recording studio, launching new media platforms, or reimagining how artists and crews are supported, Paul brings a rare combination of technical mastery, entrepreneurial vision, and hard-earned perspective. His motto? "Keep going, don't suck."This episode is brought to you by ETC and Pangolin

Mary & Blake recap and give reaction to Outlander Season 8 Episode 9, "Pharos." In this episode, we discuss why Lord John Grey finally gets the emotional spotlight, why the Jamie and Lord John chess scene may be the best payoff of Season 8, and why "Pharos" works as both a literal lighthouse clue and a symbolic title for the episode. We also get into Richardson's reveal as a time traveler, Claire letting him go, Lord John shooting him anyway, Percy's betrayal, William's two-fathers reckoning, Bree giving birth, Claire writing "our story," and whether this episode actually works as the penultimate chapter of the entire series. Plus, Mary brings the heat on Under The Tuscan Sun, cannoli, cribbage, Kelly Clarkson, mouth farts, and why Lord John walking away from Percy may be his Miss Independent moment. In this episode, you'll hear: Why "Pharos" is a strong episode title How Diana Gabaldon's writing shapes the Lord John material Why the chess scene between Jamie and Lord John works so well Whether Percy's betrayal and death hit hard enough Why Richardson's plan feels underbuilt Claire's hope that history can still change Lord John as the emotional engine of the episode William's complicated love for both Jamie and Lord John Whether "Pharos" gives enough momentum going into the finale Support the show and get bonus content at JoinTheNerdClan.com. A single “loss” can either break you or reroute you, and Terri Clark proves it can do both. Sitting down with me on Stories Behind the Songs, Terry tells the wild true story of a Canadian talent contest that left her and her mom crying on the drive home, only for her to learn ten years later that she actually won and was disqualified because she was underage at a Budweiser sponsored event. That one hidden detail helped push her toward the boldest move of her life: leaving Medicine Hat, Alberta for Nashville at 18 with no green card, no car, and no idea what the next week would look like.We get honest about the Nashville grind behind country music success: years of waiting tables, writing late on Music Row, carrying rejection from label to label, and hanging on to every small sign that the dream is still alive. Terri shares where she was when she first heard “Better Things To Do” on the radio, why she never really says “I've made it,” and how momentum in a career can vanish and return with the next brave creative choice.Because this is Stories Behind the Songs, we go deep on craft. Terri explains how she picks songs she did not write, why strong character and a strong female perspective matter, and how “No Fear,” co-written with Mary Chapin Carpenter, came together from a conversation about Johnny Cash. We also talk Terri Clark Take Two, reimagining hits with collaborators like Cody Johnson, Carly Pearce, and Kelly Clarkson, plus her blunt take on today's music business: art over commerce, play live, and do not let the content treadmill replace the work.If you love country music storytelling, songwriting process, and real career lessons from an artist who's lived them, hit play. J&J then unpack listener questions: a first vacation to Morocco that had daily sex but zero "I love yous," and debate whether a romantic getaway can reveal a deeper compatibility problem. They also tackle an icky or picky about a gym guy who put his number directly into someone's phone, plus a relationship dilemma involving a boyfriend secretly working nearly 80 hours a week between his regular job and Home Depot. And yes, things somehow end with a debate about men's underwear, Simon Cowell, and whether couples who "never fight" are actually communicating at all. Learn more about your ad choices. You Are Beautiful with Lawrence Zarian

LZ introduces his podcast “You Are Beautiful,” born from pandemic isolation, weight gain, and his Achilles rupture, and welcomes Melissa Etheridge. Etheridge says she learned “mirror work” during chemotherapy for breast cancer 22 years ago, training herself to say “Hello, gorgeous” and define beauty from within. They discuss oneness, choosing one's feelings, and course-correcting negativity through gratitude and staying general rather than focused on life's details. Etheridge describes a major awakening after over-consuming cannabis edibles, later followed by her breast cancer diagnosis, which propelled study of spirituality and plant medicine. She speaks about son Beckett's opioid addiction and death in May 2020, emphasizing, “I cannot get sick enough to make a sick person well.” Etheridge recounts her musical beginnings in Kansas, coming out, early women's-bar circuit, discovery at Pasadena's Vermie's, the “Bring Me Some Water” breakthrough, her bald 2005 Grammy performance during chemo, and writing her new album “Rise,” including “Call You.” They discuss advice for LGBTQ people and parents, and she advises LZ for his upcoming duet with Kelly Clarkson, then sings a snippet of “I Wanna Come Over.”Timestamp Menu: 00:00 Welcome You Are Beautiful01:07 Why This Podcast Exists03:03 Melissa Mirror Work05:01 Oneness Gratitude Reset09:16 Advice For Angry Mornings13:44 Awakening Cancer And Cannabis18:15 Loss And Loving Through Addiction24:51 Leavenworth Roots First Guitar27:10 Coming Out And Early Career29:51 Finding Work in LA30:12 Underground Women's Scene30:48 Label Pressure and Coming Out32:36 Breakthrough Single Origins36:07 Chemo and Grammy Comeback39:38 Awards and Artistic Purpose40:57 Songwriting Process and Inspiration43:18 Rise Album and Personal Loss46:13 Strength, Identity, and Community48:29 Advice for LGBTQ People and Parents52:16 Duet Prep and Stage Confidence55:06 Romance, Stalker Song, and Farewell

The Theatre Podcast with Alan Seales

Tess shares her journey of embracing authenticity and finding her unique voice across stage, television, and film. She opens up about how she found true artistic fulfillment by embracing the "kooky," quirky, and offbeat parts of herself rather than trying to constantly force her five-foot-nine frame into a traditional ingenue box. She breaks down the surreal whirlwind of her recent career milestones, from performing on The Today Show at five o'clock in the morning to hearing the news of a Tony nomination. Alan and Tess swap hilarious stories about major life updates happening in the least convenient places, including the exact moment she received a FaceTime call inviting her to Broadway while riding completely alone in an Amtrak quiet car. The conversation also shifts into creative endeavors outside the theater world, including Tess's passion for music and her upcoming solo album. She breaks down the therapeutic process of heading to Nashville to record a deeply personal breakup album, laying down tracks on the legendary microphone used for Kelly Clarkson's Breakaway. Alan and Tess bond over their shared experiences with self-diagnosed ADHD, hilariously dissecting the reality of "body doubling," "doom scrolling," and the mounting clutter of "doom piles". From a formative high school moment where a failed math test accidentally set her on a path to music school, to a lightning-fast, 60-second summary of Les Misérables, Tess delivers a wonderfully candid, smart, and funny look at a life in the arts. Tess Marshall is a versatile performer whose stage credits include a year and ten months as a swing and dance captain for the off-Broadway production of Titanique at the Daryl Roth Theatre, where she ultimately stepped into the iconic role of Celine Dion. Her screen credits include playing the recurring role of Dionne in the NBC series Ordinary Joe, as well as making her feature film debut in Beauty of Poverty, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. In addition to her extensive performance career, she also performs as a rock vocalist with the band Clyde Frog and works as an arts educator.
