In this episode Mike and Tony are Joined by Eva Rupert. Eva is a recurrent guest on Discovery Channel’s, “Naked and Afraid”. She’s happy to share her behind the scenes perspective on one of Discovery’s most popular reality shows. She also has a ton of exciting, new things going on in her adventure fueled life. There is even a little gratuitous tattoo talk as Eva adds to her tattoo collection with another piece from Tony. Good times ensue and there are plenty of laughs to be had. Old Bones and Tales of Tattoos is an extension of my, (at times) obsessive relationship with tattooing. Making art is only a portion of what it means to be a tattooer. The interaction/energy exchange that takes place during the act of making a tattoo between the tattooer and the tattooee is equally important. OBTT podcast aims to capture that energy. It’s the audio landscape of tattooing without the needle pins and pigment. It’s story telling through the lens of tattooer. Of course none of this could be possible without my producer, Mike Thompson. We’d like to welcome you to Old Bones and Tales of Tattoos... We are proud to acknowledge that OBTT has made it to episode 10! For this installment, we chat with Crossfit Prescott owner Joey Powell, and his pal Jake. Joey has led a very interesting life. He was a competitive speed skater before becoming special operations in the Air Force. Joey and Jake give a little back story before delving into a detailed account of their journeys to Mexico to experience several shamanic led ayahuasca ceremonies.     For Episode 9 we had the honor of closing out our weekend in Albuquerque with a visit with traditional tebori artists, Horisuzu and Horisora. We had a blast and time just flew by. We got some great backstory and Horisuzu and Horisora go on to explain how their paths crossed. They offer an insightful glimpse into what it means to be part of a Japanese tattoo family. If you are at all interested in Japanese Tattoo culture or imagery this one is a must listen! EnjoyHo

In episode 8 Mike and Tony catch up with Bale Sisneros on Sunday morning of the New Mexico Tattoo Fiesta. Bale and his partner, Brian Everett, set the bar very high with the production of the show. It was so busy that we had a hard time pulling tattooers away from the floor to record with us as there were plenty of tattoo clients to go around. Bale is a true Burque OG. He goes on to explain how Por Vida Tattoo came about and what he’s been up to as of late. Check it out!

Fade discusses the American premier of her self produced documentary, Point of no Return. She also talks about her introducing to the Iban tribe of Borneo and learning their traditional hand poke tattoo method. It was great to spend time with Fade and we are already looking forward to the next time we are able to hang!

In episode 6 Mike and Tony meet up with Durb Morrison at Northern AZ Tattoo Fest. Durb talks a bit about his timeline as a tattooer dating all the way back to his first few tattoos. Durb gives us a glimpse into what inspired him to bring Hell City to life, and what it takes to continue to set the standard in tattoo convention production. We also discuss some of his innovations with his True Tubes line and what the future holds as he looks to expand distribution for True Tattoo Supply. Durb is a class act, and his story telling definitely doesn’t disappoint. Be sure to check out Hell City, Phoenix this August 24th-26th.

For episode 5, Mike and Tony catch up with Marshall Rathburn and Nate Stephens whilst in town for The 6th annual Northern AZ Tattoo Fest. Marshall and Nate are connected to a powerhouse posse of Colorado tattooers. Both of them talk about their early experiences coming up in different environments, and Marshall tells some tales from his brief, yet tumultuous stint as a gypsy tattooer. The excitement of the upcoming Fest is in the air. Enjoy!

In episode 4 Mike and Tony sit down with pro MMA fighter, Danny Hilton. Danny is pretty heavily tattooed these days and even spent time as a tattoo apprentice before embarking on his journey as a pro fighter. Danny tells some hilarious stories and talks about a variety of topics including skateboarding and what it takes to make it in the world of professional MMA. We are big fans of Danny’s and are super stoked that he took time out of his busy training schedule to chat with us. Enjoy!

In episode 3, Mike and Tony talk candidly with Matt Wilson about Tony’s humble beginnings dating all the way back to when Tony first inquired about an apprenticeship. Matt was the resident piercer and shop manager at Electric Images in Appleton, WI where Tony spent his first few years cutting his teeth and learning what it takes to become a tattooer.
