On October 31, 1969, Patricia Spencer (16) and Pamela Hobley (15) vanished from Oscoda, Michigan. Both skipped school and were last seen walking along River Road, possibly heading to a homecoming game or Halloween party. Patricia was vibrant and family-oriented; Pamela was rebellious, recently engaged, and rumored to use drugs. Initially considered runaways, police later concluded they were likely abducted while hitchhiking and murdered. A motorist's report of giving them a ride and a 1985 tip about their murder near a barn were ignored until 2010, when Chief Mark David reopened the case. Searches yielded no evidence, and a 2013 person of interest led nowhere. Theories link the case to serial killer Rodney Alcala (due to a photo resembling Pamela) and the Oakland County Child Killer, but neither fully fits. The case remains unsolved, with no bodies or closure. In this episode, Dan is joined by Minneapolis-based comedian Ben Katzner, and they discuss actively avoiding each other, how you can get stuck in a “pocket” in a larger scene, and the importance of getting out of that comfort zone. In addition, Dan and Ben talk about the plague of vanishing clubs, allowing overconfidence to get in the way of doing a good show, being able to read the room and positioning yourself right with the audience, (once again) picking the right clothes, and the eternity that is 27 minutes of silence and the loneliness that follows. Additionally, the importance of recording everything and making that part of the routine.Ben KatznerA stand-up comedian and writer, Ben Katzner blends a subversive style, biting observational humor, and skilled storytelling to deliver a one-of-a-kind live show that's equal parts charming, smart, and relatable. Katzner regularly opens for comedian Kelsey Cook and has opened for a variety of performers, including Chad Daniels, Josh Johnson, Zainab Johnson, and Kyle Kinane. Besides performing in clubs and theaters across the country, Katzner has also participated in numerous comedy festivals, including the Limestone Comedy Festival, 10,000 Laughs Comedy Festival, Let's Fest, the Harlem Comedy Festival, and the Raleigh Comedy Festival. In 2025, Ben will be releasing his debut comedy album via Blonde Medicine's label, along with a coinciding comedy special on YouTube. Katzner is also a burgeoning talent in the graphic novel space. His debut graphic novel, "Hello, My Name is Poop," was published by Wonderbound Books in 2021. His second graphic novel, Muddy Waters Too (co-written with legendary rapper Redman), is set to be released in the summer of 2025. When he's not on a stage or behind a keyboard, Ben co-hosts the Troll Hole Podcast with comedian Mike Lester. Equal parts playful and painful, during the fast-paced show, the quick-witted duo of Lester and Katzner invite guests to discuss internet trolls, life in the public eye, and much more.IG: https://www.instagram.com/shaqkatznerSupple Harlot: https://youtu.be/KXf02vKB70k?si=qt56tFpmF8sabxkiBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-art-of-bombing-a-comedy-podcast--5788059/support.Art of Bombing:"Nobody Had a Podcast Called The Art of Bombing" Theme by John Hult https://johnhult.bandcamp.com/album/half-a-life-to-recoverWebsite: https://www.artofbombingpod.com/ Links: https://linktr.ee/artofbombingpodBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-art-of-bombing-a-guide-to-stand-up-comedy--5788059/support.Hosts:Dan Bublitz Jr: http://www.danbublitz.com/ Larry Smith: https://larrysmithcomedy.com/

When faced with an unsolved case, sometimes authorities are willing to think outside of the box.... but consulting a psychic???? While some police agencies and investigators claim to have received valuable information from psychics in real cases, there is a general skepticism within law enforcement and the public due to a lack of concrete evidence and the potential for public ridicule. However, psychic detectives have been featured in numerous television shows and media, providing captivating narratives of how paranormal phenomena could be used to solve true crimes. Send us a textIt's a bucket list weekend. JD Hutchins is onsite with the squad all the way from Fresno, CA. It's a great adventure starting with JD's flight getting screwed up, rush tattoos for the Beaveman and JD, a comedy show where the Beaveman performs, then an overnight drive to Ohio, about 30 minutes from Point Pleasant WV. Do we have more recordings? No. The squad consisting of a very high Nolan Johncock and Steven "the Sitcom" Ortiz attempt to podcast while interviewing JD, Swan, and Beaveman. But guess what? It didn't record. No worries, it was terrible. Join us for a little chat while we wait in line to get into the famed Mothman Museum. The festival was amazing. We hope everyone can experience it someday. Comedy Saved Me Podcast - Episode Show Notes Guest: Thom Tran Episode Description In this powerful episode of Comedy Saved Me, host Lynn Hoffman sits down with multi-talented veteran, comedian, musician, and activist Thom Tran for an inspiring conversation about resilience, healing, and finding purpose through laughter. Thom’s journey from combat soldier to comedy stage is nothing short of remarkable. After enlisting in the U.S. Army at just 18 years old, Thom served as a Communications and Civil Affairs Sergeant within the Army’s Special Operations Community. His military career came to an abrupt end in 2003 when a sniper’s bullet struck the back of his skull during combat operations in Iraq, just four days after crossing the border. Despite his injuries, Thom bandaged himself up and completed his 12-month tour—a testament to his incredible strength and dedication. Following his medical retirement in 2005, Thom discovered that comedy didn’t just change his life—it saved it. He channeled his experiences into stand-up comedy, eventually creating The GIs of Comedy Tour in 2010, a groundbreaking comedic troupe that has performed across the United States and in nearly two dozen countries, bringing healing laughter to military and civilian audiences alike. Lynn and Thom dive deep into how humor became his lifeline, the challenges of transitioning from military to civilian life, and his mission to help other veterans through the transformative power of comedy. Special thanks to Dr. Ron Hirshberg and General Jack Hammond from Home Base for their support of our podcasts and for introducing us to Thom. For information on their amazing work go to https://homebase.org This episode is a testament to the healing power of laughter and the resilience of the human spirit—a must-listen for anyone who believes in the transformative power of comedy.
