Preston & Child continue their #1 bestselling series featuring FBI Special Agent Pendergast and Constance Greene, as they take a final stand against New York's deadliest serial killer: Pendergast's own ancestor…and Constance's greatest enemy. About the Author The thrillers of Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child “stand head and shoulders above their rivals” (Publishers Weekly). Preston and Child's Relic and The Cabinet of Curiosities were chosen by readers in a National Public Radio poll as being among the one hundred greatest thrillers ever written, and Relic was made into a number-one box office hit movie. They are coauthors of the famed Pendergast series and their recent novels include Crooked River, Old Bones, Verses for the Dead, and City of Endless Night. In addition to his novels, Douglas Preston writes about archaeology for The New Yorker and National Geographic magazines. Lincoln Child is a Florida resident and former book editor who has published seven novels of his own, including bestsellers such as Full Wolf Moon and Deep Storm. Readers can sign up for The Pendergast File, a monthly “strangely entertaining note” from the authors, at their website, http://www.PrestonChild.com. The authors welcome visitors to their alarmingly active Facebook page, where they post regularly.

The crew sits down and reviews an Old Bones 18 yr Canadian Rye and puts it up against the 291 12 yr Anniversary Bottle. These Mountainesque ryes have a very earthy sweet and spicy taste that are very similar. It was really hard to decide which one was better.
Our main feature this week is In a Violent Nature. We're also reviewing Silent Rage, Hangman, Visher, Scream (1981), Godzilla Minus One, Jaws by Peter Benchley, Old Bones by Doug Preson and Lincoln Child, and I Found a circus Tent in the Woods Behind My House by Ben Farthing.

This episode originally aired on Feb. 16, 2022.Trondheim, Norway's first religious and national capital, has a rich history that has been revealed over decades of archaeological excavations. One question archaeologists are working on right now has a lot of relevance in a pandemic: Can insight into the health conditions of the past shed light on pandemics in our own time? Now, with the help of old bones and dental plaque, researchers are learning about how diseases evolved in medieval populations, and what society did to stem them — and how that might help us in the future. Our guests for this episode were Axel Christophersen, a professor of historical archaeology at the NTNU University Museum; Tom Gilbert, a professor at the NTNU University Museum and head of the Center for Evolutionarly Hologenomics based at the University of Copenhagen; and Elisabeth Forrestad Swensen, a PhD candidate at the NTNU University Museum. You can read more about the MedHeal research project on the project's home page. Here are some of the academic articles on medieval Trondheim related to the podcast: Zhou Z, Lundstrøm I, Tran-Dien A, Duchêne S, Alikhan NF, Sergeant MJ, Langridge G, Fotakis AK, Nair S, Stenøien HK, Hamre SS, Casjens S, Christophersen A, Quince C, Thomson NR, Weill FX, Ho SYW, Gilbert MTP, Achtman M. Back for another week to talk about game we all know and love, we're here with episode 26 — The Milbury! The boys tell you all about rugged defenseman Mike Milbury, who was a bit of a shoe aficionado, then later a subpar GM with the Isles and a longtime commentator with some questionable hot takes! We break down a predictable round one of the NHL playoffs — the teams you think would win won, and the won we wanted to win didn't. But the Leafs lost again, and that's okay! And then we start to dissect what will happen with your Winnipeg Jets offseason — will Old Bones stay? Do any of the UFA's make Winnipeg their home? And does Nik Ehlers take his drycleaning to a new city — we've got thoughts as always…

We're back after a week off with episode 15 — The Bobby Smith! The fellas tell you about this former North Star, Hab and Ottawa 67 who had a tidy little career, putting up almost a point per game during his 1000 plus game career! He was the first (???) Nova Scotia born player to go #1 overall, and it's true that he once even beat the Great One in a scoring race by 10 points — nice job Robert! Then we break down the recent developments in the horrible Team Canada scandal in connection with an investigation into an alleged sexual assault by several members of Canada's 2018 world junior team. And finally, the Winnipeg Jet's recent swoon has gotta have fans feeling a little déjà vu — can Old Bones right the ship post-All Star Break?

Welcome to the Juras-Sick Park-Cast podcast, the Jurassic Park podcast about Michael Crichton's 1990 novel Jurassic Park, and also not about that, too. Find the episode webpage at: Episode 58 - Destroying The World. In this episode, my terrific guest Dr. Peter Dodson joins the show to chat with me about: the Festschrift special edition of the Anatomic Record (Dinosaurs: New Ideas from Old Bones) honouring the career of Dr. Peter Dodson, the special effects in Jurassic Park, Fantasia, his father's career as an academic biologist , Dr. Edwin Colbert, authoring dinosaur books, studying paleontology in Ottawa, Alberta and Canada, memories of working with Dr. Dale Russell, preparing an Albertosaurus specimen collected by the Sternbergs!, working in Alberta, discovering a terrific Lambeosaurus skeleton, paleontologist Lawrence Lambe being honoured in Lambeosaurus' name, what else do you find amongst the dinosaurs out in the field?, field work in Egypt and finding a large, strange skull, a 4m long coelocanth!, could dinosaurs consume salt water?, studying ceratopsians, sauropods and hadrosaurs, discovering and naming the Avaceratops lammersi, writing The Dinosauria, marital faux-pas naming a dinosaur after a woman who isn't your wife!, naming Auroraceratops rogosus, protoceratopsid Magnirostris dodsoni being named after him, extinct frog Nezpercius dodsoni was named after him, too, the Judith River Formation, the impact of the Royal Tyrrell Museum, and the fascinating revelation that we're learning about dinosaur colours, paleo proctology, and much more! Bonus details include overhearing groceries being put away, my cat whining and distinctly audible thunder. Sorry about all that... I try my best. Plus dinosaur news about: A new alvarezsaurid theropod dinosaur from the Upper Cretaceous of Gobi Desert, Mongolia Volcanic temperature changes modulated volatile release and climate fluctuations at the end-Triassic mass extinction Featuring the music of Snale https://snalerock.bandcamp.com/ Intro: Sally Ride. Outro: Shelter Dog. The Text: The Seventh Iteration, “Increasingly, the mathematics will demand the courage to face its implications.” This week's text is Destroying The World, spanning from pages 367– 369. Synopsis: Hammond believes they've saved the world by stopping the raptors from reaching the mainland, but Malcolm says that “life” would survive – that life finds a way to overcome all odds. “Life” is the greatest power; Hammond is deluded if he thinks otherwise. Discussions surround: Life Finds a Way, Semantics, Power is Magic, Crichton Tropes Corrections: I said Ernst Stromer was a paleontologist from the 1800s – which isn't quite correct. Yes, he was born in 1886, but his work on Spinosaurus and his career as a paleontologist was spent almost entirely in the 1900s, including the famous trip the Bahariya Formation in 1910. So, he was a 20th century paleontologist whose magnum opus was certainly in the 1900s. I was incorrect in describing him as a paleontologist from the 1800s. Also, I wondered if the expression “Crocodile Tears” may have come from crocodiles excreeting excess salt via tear ducts, and, upon looking into it, saltwater crocodiles are known to have tears which help rid them of the excess salt that they take in with their food. Side effects: May cause nomenclaturial irony. Find it on iTunes, on Spotify (click here!) or on Podbean (click here). Thank you! The Jura-Sick Park-cast is a part of the Spring Chickens banner of amateur intellectual properties including the Spring Chickens funny pages, Tomb of the Undead graphic novel, the Second Lapse graphic novelettes, The Infantry, and the worst of it all, the King St. Capers. You can find links to all that baggage in the show notes, or by visiting the schickens.blogpost.com or finding us on Facebook, at Facebook.com/SpringChickenCapers or me, I'm on twitter at @RogersRyan22 or email me at ryansrogers-at-gmail.com. Thank you, dearly, for tuning in to the Juras-Sick Park-Cast, the Jurassic Park podcast where we talk about the novel Jurassic Park, and also not that, too. Until next time! #JurassicPark #MichaelCrichton
These days, convenience and regulations often “win” over the sensibilities of using what you have and preserving the good stuff. In this episode, we talk to the maven of the heart of DeLand, Barb Shepherd. Not only is she the editor and publisher of the West Volusia Beacon newspaper, she has also used her vision and zeal to revitalize and re-energize the heartbeat of downtown. Campbellton's Leslie Woods Meyers has a new single out. It's called Old Bones, and it has a really poignant backstory. We'll speak with her.
Timothy and Alison present the story of GFGE Thomas, a hermit who lived on a remote section of the battlefield in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Was he a practicing folk magician? Who or what tormented him in his lonely abode? Two years after the hermit's death, his cabin burnt down under mysterious circumstances – and his ghost was said to haunt Wolf Hill. Jon and Timothy head to Wolf Hill and find the foundation of Thomas's cabin, along with his well. Chad and Timothy return and locate a cave in which the hermit stayed before he built his cabin. If you would like to help us continue to make Strange Familiars, get bonus content, t-shirts, stickers, and more rewards, you can become a patron: http://www.patreon.com/StrangeFamiliarsIf you would prefer a one-time payment to help us out, here is a PayPal.me link - you can change the number 25 in the URL to any amount: https://www.paypal.me/timothyrenner/25Strange Familiars episode 300, The Witch Cloud, is available now: https://stonebreath.bandcamp.com/album/the-witch-cloudStrange Familiars HIGH STRANGENESS TOUR long-sleeve t-shirts and zipper hoodies! Trondheim, Norway's first religious and national capital, has a rich history that has been revealed over decades of archaeological excavations. One question archaeologists are working on right now has a lot of relevance in during a pandemic: Can insight into the health conditions of the past shed light on pandemics in our own time? Now, with the help of old bones, latrine wastes and dental plaque, researchers are learning about how diseases evolved in medieval populations, and what society did to stem them — and how that might help us in the future. A festival is here. The crew takes in the sights and festivities of Ubledive. With such a quiet town, the group has a hard time relaxing with what has happened in the weeks prior. Maybe some time off is exactly what they need. Now that we have passed 250 episodes, Timothy and Alison take a look back at some of the audio we have collected on various on-site expeditions. Revisit Seven Valleys, Site 7, Pond Bank, and Pandemonium with us as we replay some of the strange sounds we've recorded - unknown voices, low droning groans, EVPs, wood knocks, and more.If you would like to help us continue to make Strange Familiars, get bonus content, t-shirts, stickers, and more rewards, you can become a patron: http://www.patreon.com/StrangeFamiliarsIf you would prefer a one-time payment to help us out, here is a PayPal.me link - you can change the number 25 in the URL to any amount: https://www.paypal.me/timothyrenner/25Our Strange Familiars / Lost Grave etsy shop has art, books, patches, t-shirts, and more ... including original art done for Strange Familiars: https://www.etsy.com/shop/lostgraveStrange Familiars t-shirts and other designs are available here: https://www.teepublic.com/stores/strange-familiars?ref_id=14000Episode 253 notes and links:90 Days to the Perfect Puppy: https://perfectpuppies.sithappens.us/90-daysRiverbend Comics: https://www.riverbendcomics.comKarmic Garden: https://www.etsy.com/shop/KarmicGarden Timothy's collection of post-MS attack drawings, Monsters Under the (Hospital) Bed is available now in our etsy shop: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1023391289/monsters-under-the-hospital-bed-artTimothy's book of paranormal illustrations, Apparitions, is available to order now… directly from us: https://www.strangefamiliars.com/home/apparitions-illustrations-of-the-other-book or, if you prefer, on etsy: https://www.etsy.com/listing/877387099/apparitions-art-book-by-timothy-rennerTimothy's book, with co-author Joshua Cutchin, Where the Footprints End, Volume II, ordering information: https://www.strangefamiliars.com/home/where-the-footprints-end-volume-ii-available-nowStrange Familiars Curiosity of the Week #2: Fortune Teller CardYou can purchase this card at our etsy shop: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1045018930/fortune-teller-card-strange-familiarsTimothy's books: https://www.amazon.com/Timothy-Renner/e/B072X44SD5Strange Familiars ‘Awoken Tree' t-shirts are available in our Etsy shop: https://www.etsy.com/listing/739690857/strange-familiars-podcast-awoken-treeAlison: https://www.etsy.com/shop/odpeacockChad's YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNB7MSJ2F1SRBPcQsEFLnvg (make sure to subscribe to Chad's channel, Ruck Rabbit Outdoors.)Chad's etsy shop: https://www.etsy.com/shop/RuckRabbitOutdoorsTo help with the Capuchin Day Center's work with the homeless you can donate here: https://www.capuchindaycentre.ieand here: https://www.cskdetroit.orgContact us via email at: strangefamiliarspodcast@gmail.comhttp://www.facebook.com/strangefamiliarsJoin the Strange Familiars Gathering group on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/strangefamiliars/instagram: @strangefamiliarshttp://www.strangefamiliars.comIntro and background music by Stone Breath.
