“Are not there little chapters in everybody's life, that seem to be nothing, and yet affect all the rest of the history?” W.M. Thackeray Welcome to The Little Chapters - a podcast about living life the want, not the one you think you should. Kayte Ferri
In our very last episode of the little chapters we pull back the curtain on why the podcast is ending and dive into the ins and outs of letting go of a creative project. Thank you so much to everyone who has listened, rated, reviewed and shared this podcast. We love you and we'll miss you x
After short break we return with one of the biggest topics there is - purpose. But is it really that big a topic? We discuss what we mean when we think about purpose, how it guides and helps us in our lives and how it so often more simple than we think.
Do you want to be liked or do you want to feel like you belong? Brene Brown's Netflix documentary has got us thinking and discussing our relationship with likability this week. Also, guess which one of us used to buy likes on Instagram?
We're all used to setting New Year Resolutions or a word of the year in our case, but what actually happens after January? What happens when it's a struggle to try and reach those goals you set? This week we check in with how we've lived our word of the year so far and share tips on how to find your own word of the year (no it's not too late). We also answer a question from a listener who is having difficulties asking for help.
The chatty intro is back and we're diving into the elusive waters of friendship this week. Jess explains marble theory but how many marbles does Kayte have left? Sex and the City is held accountable for disappointments, failures and generally leading us down the garden path of friendship. What's your stance on female friendships? Grab a cuppa and hit play to join us and hear ours.
Jess and Kayte have always talked a lot about mindset, and these conversations often revolve around having either a mindset of lack or of abundance. In this episode we lengthen and deepen our conversation around this topic, defining the terms, talking about how it shows up for us in both work and life, touching upon gender issues as well as school sports days.
In this week's episode, Jess and Kayte each share the best and worst life advice they've been given. Some might be things we've read and taken to heart, others are things that we've been told personally and some are learnings that we are advising ourselves with. We cover letting go, jealousy, intuition, relationships and everything in between.
What's your personal style? Focusing on wardrobes, this week we do a deep dive into discovering and honing our personal style and all the good that comes from that process. We unpick personal style struggles and try to solve Kayte's wardrobe dilemmas.
In a world where we're encouraged to please everyone else before we even think about ourselves, where do hobbies and the joy of hobbies sit on our agenda? Kayte's had hobbies high up on the 'to talk about on the podcast' list for a while. This week we dive head first into childhood pleasures, letting go of what felt uncool and balancing hobbies with work.
This week we're diving into the mystical, the magical the supernatural and the spiritual. Ever feel like there's something bigger than you trying to guide you along in life? We unpick the idea of magic within creativity, calculate our Saturn returns and share how we've experimented with Tarot too. Jess has always been a believer in the woo but what about the ever logical Kayte? Grab a cuppa or put a lead on the dog and listen in to find out.
It's the week we explore the self-employment side of life. We share our own stories on how we both became self-employed, discuss why it isn't for everyone, what we love (and hate) about it and we bust some of the infamous myths around self-employment and making money online.
Both Jess and Kayte are asked about routines on a fairly regular basis, so we thought we'd dedicate an episode to them. We talk about our routines (or distinct lack of) when it comes to our work, our personal lives, the things we like and the things we don't, in times of stress and everyday. We also talk about how important it is to find a routine that works for you, and debunk the 'morning routines of successful people' myth.
In this episode we're talking all about social media, the place where both Kayte and Jessica spend most of their time online and the place that made this podcast possible! We look up how much time we're spending on Instagram, describe our relationship with social media and talk about our experience with the world of 'influencers' (whether you like that word or not).
This week we dive deep into an honest conversation about money in a bid to start breaking down the taboo. We discuss how our relationship with money has changed, privilege, what money means to us, how it affects our lives and why we need to talk about it more. Not much then! Pour a cuppa, tap play and join us.
It's the week Kayte can't get a word in edgeways. We're breaking down the 'minimalism' topic into segments and this is the first one: clutter. We talk about how we deal with both physical and mental clutter; and share decluttering tips too.
We all feel it, we all succumb to it, so let's talk about it! It's comparison week and we take a rollercoaster trip down through the trap door and - sort of - out the other side. We talk about how comparison shows up for us, how we tackle it and why sometimes we kind of need it. There's also an excellent S Club 7 feature.
Both Jess and Kayte are introverts but both have very different understandings and experiences of this in their lives - for Jess it's been a recent revelation whereas Kayte grew up in an introverted family. In this episode we look at what being an introvert means, how it affects our lives, how digging into our personality type has helped us and the phenomenon of being an introvert online.
This week on The Little Chapters we're breaking down the question 'what do you want?' - out of life, out of work, out of hobbies. Or, in other words, it's essentially Kayte trying to get Jess to define the meaning of life for her. We both are at very different stages of figuring this out for ourselves, and we're bearing it all in this episode.
It's the week we dive into the realities of creating a creative life outside of London. We talk about how this feels, the struggles it can present and all the benefits too. It's also the episode where Jess doesn't quite know where Bristol is.
And we're off! Welcome to the first ever episode of the little chapters or 'TLC' as we keep referring to it. This week we're talking about expectations; those we place on ourselves and those that come from external sources. We dive into how expectations have affected our work and lives and tuning them out when they're just not serving you.
