What can we learn from something as small as an ant? In this message from the Life Advice series, Pastor Danny de Armas explores Proverbs 6 and challenges us to rethink the purpose of our work, our attitude toward responsibility, and the impact our everyday efforts can have on others. Drawing from the example of the ant, this message reminds us that work is more than a paycheck. It is part of how we were made, an opportunity to serve with excellence, and a way to contribute to the flourishing of those around us. We are encouraged to work wholeheartedly, stay focused on a greater purpose, and live with a future perspective, trusting that faithful effort today can have lasting rewards tomorrow. (07/26/2026)

Today's main event: how a physician-owned practice negotiates with UnitedHealthcare. UHC is notorious for raising premiums 20 to 30% while offering physician reimbursement bumps of about 1%. I walk through exactly how we push back at Eye Health Northwest, phone messages that spell out the math, letters to patients, and yes, taking the contract to the brink when we have to. This works because we're large and physician-owned, which is why I make the case for other independents to consider joining forces locally instead of selling to private equity or chasing the Sound Physicians model. After the break, a quick "don't do that" tip, and some actual advice for the residents and interns who just started on July 1. Takeaways: UnitedHealthcare consistently reimburses below other commercial payers, often raising premiums 20 to 30% while offering physician reimbursement increases as low as 1%, the ability to push back depends heavily on practice size and market share Eye Health Northwest formed 40 years ago when three independent practices merged, creating the scale needed to stay physician-owned, avoid private equity, and negotiate meaningfully with big insurers, a model Will recommends for other independents willing to stay local The most effective renegotiation tactic is patient transparency: phone messages, letters, and clear math about premium hikes versus reimbursement stagnation motivate patients to pressure the payer directly, which is what ultimately gets big insurers to blink Covering an entire long-weekend call solo across all practice sites is a very different animal than typical private-practice call, Will openly acknowledges that private-practice ophthalmologists have lost perspective compared to residency call at a level one trauma center Advice for new residents: check vision before consulting ophthalmology, stay humble, listen to patients before the system beats it out of you, protect a few minutes a week for something completely outside medicine, and invest heavily in your co-residents — no one else will fully understand what you're going through To Get Tickets to Wife & Death: You can visit Glaucomflecken.com/live  We want to hear YOUR stories (and medical puns)! The laughs start immediately when Tricia shares a joke so ridiculous that it sparks a conversation about doctor visits, rubber gloves, and one of the most legendary money-saving dads in show history. From stolen tongue depressors to stretching the life of a disposable razor, JB reveals the kinds of tricks that made his father a local legend. As Sandy puts it, “If it took a nickel to vomit, he'd find another way.” Then things get personal during a rapid-fire Q&A when the crew learns surprising facts about each other, including Sandy's long-running battle with facial hair and the TV show he'd choose if he could experience it for the very first time all over again. The show also takes a moment to celebrate country music icon Alan Jackson as details emerge from his emotional final concert. The crew reflects on his remarkable career, his impact on country music, and why his songs continue to connect with generations of fans. Meanwhile, Gracie the runaway giraffe finally gets her happy ending. After disappearing into the Texas Hill Country and inspiring countless memes, jokes, and wild internet theories, she's found safe and sound. The crew imagines everything she might have been doing during her brief taste of freedom, from floating the river to sightseeing across Texas. Other unforgettable moments include:Why your dog may secretly resent all those forced hugsThe staggering reality of a half-billion-dollar lottery jackpotA cautionary tale involving an 85-year-old street racerThe mystery of Sahara dust arriving in TexasAnd a game of Minute to Win It that proves simple questions are sometimes the hardest under pressureMemorable Moments & Quotes“If it took a nickel to vomit, he'd poop.”“I look like a giant leprechaun with a mustache.”“She acted alone.”“You come here and let me love you!”“There's no way Gracie didn't have the time of her life.”Funny, nostalgic, and full of classic JB and Sandy banter, this episode is a reminder that the best stories are often the ones you never see coming.

Welcome back, WIFs!This week, Lauren and Michelle are joined by Chicago stand up comedian Maggie Hughes DePalo for a conversation that proves laughter might just be one of the best wellness tools we have. Known for her deadpan delivery and wildly relatable observations about marriage, motherhood, aging, and everyday life, Maggie has built a devoted audience by finding humor in the moments most of us are quietly living through.Together, the sisters and Maggie dive into the absurdities of modern life. They discuss why comedy connects us, what makes everyday experiences so universally relatable, and how learning to laugh at ourselves can make life's challenges feel a little lighter. The conversation also explores Maggie's journey into stand-up comedy, her thoughts on today's culture, the comedians who inspired her, and what it's like building a career around telling the truth—just with better punchlines.Press play, get cozy, and join the conversation about finding humor in the chaos, embracing imperfection, and remembering that nobody has life completely figured out—even if it looks that way online.Because sometimes the most comforting realization is that we're all just doing our best... and hopefully laughing along the way.Guest: Maggie Hughes DePalo — Chicago stand up comedian, storyteller, and co-founder of All That Good Stuff Comedy.Resources: Maggie Hughes Depalo Tour DatesLeave Us A MessageA Cozy Night For ReadersFollow Us!Shop Our CandlesCheck Out Our WebsiteThis episode is sponsored by Let It Be Us and Chicago Private Wealth Group
